Custom titles under the username are always fun. As to where it should be, that's obviously under the username like what was suggested above.

They're kind of a fun way to express yourself, so it's always a cool feature. On another forum I'm on, we have preset titles for each rank, e.g. I'm at rank 9 and the title for that is Adorable Badazz. Once you hit rank 10 though you get the ability to give yourself a custom title. Personally I really like that setup, although the post count needed on Moe Wars to hit rank 10 is a bit... excessive.

There is now an option to enter your own custom title that will display under your username.

You can find this in Preferences:

preferences.jpg.352d965953cfb859b28d72c98640da04.jpg

Then scroll down until you find the Custom User Title field:

There was feedback also about tying in different "ranks" instead of levels. That would be best looked at another time.

Let me know if you run into any issues. :)

@Renee it still works but it's been moved to shop section so now you'll have purchase it with Forum credits.

I don't have any problem with that expect that for some weird reason we can only purchase custom titles once:

Why's that?

I guess that it's meant to prevent members from changing it all the time and devaluing it in the process which is fair, but there are other ways to prevent that from happening:

  • By making it more expensive: If members really post that much that they can afford to spend 2k-3k-5k credits every week to change it, then by all means go for it. As Forum is right now that'd prove very difficult and if someone sets out to do it it'd still bring more positives than negatives since it'd make Forum more active overall. So this could be done simply by setting higher fixed price or perhaps by raising the cost with each use (1st: 500 credits, 2nd: 2k, 3rd 5k, 4th 7k, etc. ).
  • By having trial periods: Mostly to improve current experience since I don't think I'd purchase custom title right now since it's just way too risky.
  • Time limitation: After every purchase there's a certain period of time (1, 2, 3, 6, months) before option becomes available again.

Personally I'm leaning towards 1st option and raising the cost variation since it pretty much solves all our problems. Second option could temporarily improve current experience but it would make more long-term problems since members could abuse trial period system and never make a purchase.

One thing's for sure though, as things are right now I don't think I'd purchase custom title. :/

EDIT:

It has just occurred to me that it's perhaps single use as in one purchased change enables you to change it only once... :P

I still think that raising the cost or setting time limitation would still make it a bit more significant if anything, so it's still a suggested improvement.

Hi @Belgrade_assassin, thanks for your feedback.

Yes the item is single use - once you change your title it will disappear from your Inventory. If you want to change it again you will need to purchase it again.

Regarding the item cost, this is something we may revisit later down the track to see how the shop economy is going as earning points has also been tied to community events... as it stands the cost is quite cheap, 2-3 posts in the anime sections. I am hoping to get more items/perks added to the shop at a later time - when that happens the cost of all the items will be reviewed.

I agree with what Belgrade said. Like so, we limit the constant changes on titles as well as the value loss. Another way that could possibly work is to earn the title through some form of forums activity that you've done. For example, winning a forum event (achieving the best score), or from your time spent on the forums (being online and available, possibly for the number of posts you have). It could also act as a nickname to symbolize something that you are good at e.g. I could have the title 'Brush Master' if I was really good at painting, and I showed my work on the forums.

Earning credits already works that way and there are monthly contests through which you can earn additional credit. :)

As for title itself, I'm not really sure what would be the best thing to put there. I'm guessing it could follow a theme you're going for like some cool Bleach quote in your case, at least that's how I'd personally use it.

It would be awesome if we had like uhh... "ranks" or something.

Kinda like if a user has 100 posts, he would be given a certain "Rank" which can be seen by other people as uhh.. let's say "Banners" under the user's name or something.

The second one. Wherein the higher your post is, the higher your rank is.

For example, a newbie would start as "Unknown". After let's say, 25 posts, they would be Pawns.

At 100 they would be something else higher than a Pawn.

doing it this way can be a little tricky as with lower ranks not so bad , but higher as people achieve up there do you

A. make more ranks and this could always continue onwards as people go up

B. make the higher ranks further apart with the highest tier/tiers unachievable

C. as people achieve the higher/highest re evaluate at what lvl each are achievable

and does/should time being a member also be evaluated or just post count

I think that post count should only be the one evaluated and not the actual time. Cuz I basically made 100+ posts without spamming ever since I joined back in December.

I do think that Ranks being further apart would be the better choice. For example, after 100 posts, the next rank would be 750 or 500. Making it much harder to get the next rank. The highest possible rank should be somewhere within 2k posts or something, with additional Rank banners obtainable by joining forum events such as Contests and stuff. or even those who upload stuff should have their own banner or something

Not sure if this was appropriate thread to start this discussion in, but while we're at it gap of 400 posts between such low rank seems a bit too much considering current forum activity at least. Ranks are supposed to be motivators for users to post more but having such big gaps inbetween won't motivate anyone since you probably won't start posting now with 130 messages just to get a bigger rank at 500. In my opinion anything related to post count won't be effective as long as spam threads count as posts and realistically it's impossible to avoid that with current activity since right now any post is seen as valuable.

So I agree with you that it'd be beneficial to have such system at some point but I don't think that right now's the time to do so.
