Description

* Based on a shounen manga by Ookubo Atsushi serialised in Shounen Gangan.

Set in the Shinigami technical school for weapon technicians, the series revolves around three pairs of two characters with each having a weapon technician and a human weapon. They try to make the latter a "Death Scythe" and thus fit for use by the Shinigami. They must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch to do this.

Note: There were two versions of Soul Eater. The first was a normal version which aired on Mondays and the second was a "Late Show" version which aired on Thursday nights. The "Late Show" version had some extra scenes added during eye-catches and before the next episode preview but the main part of the show didn`t have any differences from the normal version.

The series was rebroadcast on TV Tokyo under the title Soul Eater: Repeat Show (ソウルイーター リピートショー) from September 30, 2010, featuring new opening and closing themes.

Soul Eater is one of my top ten favorite anime and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a series that has action mixed with tons of comedy. Every character has their own quirks and personality. The comedy doesn't take away from the action and the series pretty much sticks to the story instead of running all over the place like a lot of newer anime tends to do. The graphics are done quite well and again it's definitely a unique style of artwork that I don't see in a lot of anime. I will say however, if you watch the anime in the English language (let's face it, there are anime that have been dubbed in multiple languages. Not a lot but there are a few; thus I cannot speak for them), there are some minor mistakes. One noticeably is during an episode later in the series (can't remember which one that it was in but it was quite a bit later in the series) where the female doctor and Dr. Stein are having a conversation on the correct way to make coffee however what they were making was tea, not coffee (the box they were using was clearly labeled "Tea"). So if small things like that don't bother you then you'll definitely like this anime.

Anyway, if I would have to choose one thing that makes this anime stand out from the others, it would have to be the artwork, definitely. The characters would be a close second.

This show is a must see. Top five to recommend to others. I really enjoyed the characters and the story in this one. There were delightful twists and unexpected depth to some of the characters that I was wonderfully surprised with. Overall a great watch, and not a bad series to binge either.
