Honestly, it's kind of hard to answer the question of this title, because really, without the good and bad sections, I'd be bouncing around with my thoughts because of what it's done. That said, hopefully my review will help you understand it enough to enjoy this season, or know that you won't.
The animation is absolutely stunning. Sometimes when updating the style of the anime simply by improving it\'s visuals, the feeling of an anime can be lost, but that is simply not the case here. AoT does an absolutely amazing job at handling the updated visuals while still keep the feeling of the show alive.
The story this time around has some really heavy hitters, and they did a good job of not wasting the first episode on what would basically be a recap of the previous season, which would have been easy to do given the four year gap between seasons. Instead it focuses on the story and moves it along brilliantly. In general the story has a lot of revelations that will keep you enticed throughout the whole season.
There were some pacing issues. After the first half of the season showing off new details and giving us a better understanding of what\'s really going on, the whole show screech\'s to a halt for a few episodes, and for no good reason. I would say that backstory of certain characters was worth watching and that it helped me to enjoy some of the new characters that showed up, but that\'s simply not true. Considering the last season spent eleven episodes on an arc that could have been done in five to seven episodes, the backstory could have been in there and fixed some of the pacing issues of season one. Instead they showed up in this season causing to start slowing down, and then to make matters worse, a few episodes of pretty much nothing happening were placed in there just to make the 12 episode season work. Sadly, because of those episodes, the finale was rushed for no reason, and made certain events lose their impact because there wasn\'t enough time to dwell on them or process them before the next big thing happened. The next season in 2018 really needs to do something about that sort of problem.
I've been caught up to the manga but before I even read the manga I've seen the 10th episode of this anime.. I got to say, I've been mind blown throughout the whole time. You just never know what's gonna happen, unless you've read the manga.
This series for both the manga and the anime, it really seems like the author foreshadowed everything... I love it.
The only thing that could be better would be the character developments and some more ships ;3 but that is just my personal opinion.
