I really like the outdoors this time of year. The temperature is about perfect, most of the insects have gone dormant, the different colored leaves & just the smell in the air.

I’m not so much a fan of straight up horror or blood & gore, though I’ve watched my share. I prefer more of the old campfire tales or folklore & legends. More atmospheric than actually scary or shocking. Also quirky stuff like Iruma-kun & Gegege Kitaro. I also like dark humor like the old Vincent Price movies or Tim Burton.
Fond memories are of trick or treating as a kid. Nearest neighbor was a 10 minute walk, but the small community a couple miles down the road was really kid friendly at Halloween. Couple churches that weren’t hung up on the whole Halloween is of the devil thing, plus a small library, fire station, ice cream/pizza parlor, & gas station/carry-out in addition to the homes. Would always go with my sister & a group of classmates. And the library would always have a Halloween party with one of the old black & white monster movies. I remember going as Yoda one year & searching our woods  for an “authentic” walking stick to complete the costume 😂 There was an old abandoned house & dried up well back there too (think Blair Witch Project). No ghost stories to share, but had several of those trees with the tri-pronged thorns over an inch long growing around it, which gave it a creepy atmosphere.

My favorite thing about halloween would be dressing up for events. but yea it can cost if you want to have a good enough experience.

didn't get to do too much this year

my fondest memory was spending time with my family. we celebrated holidays as much as we could but these days everyone has moved out and away or are busy. I miss those times.

how about you Zila? :)

I like how this is part of the seasonal appreciation. xD Adieu, ye pesky things. Mosquitoes more than anything.

I'm not much into the blood/gore or heavily demonic stuff either. Seems to have been an interest that's passed from when I was younger. I do love the classics. Abbott and Costello, Vincent Price, etc. :) I read your Fond Memories while I was in the hospital but I was too weak and tired to come on and reply. Gosh, they gave me so many memories of my own. It was a nice distraction but more than that, I'm happy you have such fantastic memories. Truly the warmest feeling!

Did you find one? xD

I took some photos of my brother at this creepy park we found. He goes all out with costumes and makeup. We found this patch of dead tall grass with a lone tree that looked like the one from the 1999 Sleepy Hollow movie. There was also an old creaky windmill that echoed in the field. That's as spooky as I'd like to get.

That and once we went to visit some old train tracks that cut into an abandoned quarry. You need to walk a few miles to get there. There's a bridge portion that's a good ways from the ground, everyone liked to try and cross it back then. When we got there it was rather old and falling apart. People had left flowers there for loved ones in what I assume were for those that fell from the bridge. It was in the middle of nowhere, silence all around. We didn't chance it but we admired that the tracks came from another time in history. Granite sparkling in the sun, wooden remnants of broken shafts, wind howling through the gorge. They say if you're silent enough you can hear songs from Native ancestors. Time itself is pretty eerie.

I'll say! I've gotten into sewing my own costumes given that they aren't too complicated. xD I try to DIY decorations and props but I haven't gone to a con/event in a few years now. Since the whole Covid thing.

Same here, though mostly due to personal things. I did manage to finish decorating my house and making candy baggies for family. 💜 Had to scrap giving out candy on Halloween night. :(

Aww, not being able to celebrate with loved ones as much as you used to does indeed bite. Kind of leaves an empty feeling sometimes. Nothing is more worse than Secret Santa at the ol' workplace however. xD I don't know how I keep getting coffee machines but I keep getting coffee machines. I think we all realize that our team needs more energy. xD

You are truly blessed not to be familiar with deer flies

“female deer flies feed on blood, which they require to produce eggs.[4] Females feed primarily on mammals. They are attracted to prey by sight, smell, or the detection of carbon dioxide. Other attractants are body heat, movement, dark colours, and lights in the night. They are active under direct sunshine and hours when the temperature is above 22 °C (71.6°).[4] When feeding, the females use scissor-like mandiblesand maxillae to make a cross-shaped incision and then lap up the blood. Their bite can be painful. Anti-coagulants in the saliva of the fly prevents blood from clotting and may cause severe allergic reactions.  DEET is not an effective repellent.[2]”

and once one finds you, it WILL follow you 😱
one of the things I do not miss about not having acres of woods & pasture to ramble through any more.

You gotta wiggle them noodles around a bit, get a good hand grip strengthener. xD May I ask, what type of painting style(s) are you interested in? Lots of expressive, chaotically done work out there. Neat lines are for crabs. 😏

I thought holidays' specialty was to give everyone depression? 🤔

I used to drink coffee. Honestly, I ended up re-gifting the last machine anyway. The previous one I stripped it for its delicious parts. 🛠️ Nom, nom.

I would expect nothing less of you, Ms. Rockbell

My dad gave me a sip of straight black Folgers when I was 3, and I’ve not been able to drink coffee since no matter what flavorings I add.  Iced tea is my drug of choice.

Been around horse flies.  They’re just as bad.  Definitely not my favorite species.  (I’m sure the feeling was mutual however.  I used to hunt them with a BB gun that I’d muzzle-load with salt, then feed the crippled ones to my pet lizard.  :) )

@efaardvarkthat’s what makes deerfly so annoying. They’re too small to present an easy target, but big enough to hurt like the dickens when they tag you. At least there’s usually not anyone else around to see you trying to run across uneven terrain while flailing your arms to keep them away.  Of  course you usually don’t notice ticks till they’re already latched onto you. The joys of living in the country 😂  Though in all seriousness, I couldn’t have asked for a better childhood. Adulthood’s another matter :P

To answer your questions

Leave my noodle fingers out of this. 😖

Paint style? Something with less clean lines? LOL guess that was a no brainer on my part. Wishing I could do cleaner lines but i haven't tried not doing them. xD Do I make any sense? nope!

Finally got some good luck headed our way. We packed yesterday to visit family for the holidays. This will be my second time flying and I prefer being on solid ground. The price for family- Dom voice. LOL

I've never had coffee before, don't plan to. you took the coffee machine apart? xD
