  1. So what anime are you watching at the moment? For me it's Psycho-Pass. I'm loving it so much! It's a Sci-Fi detective thriller but It's quite deep, alongside the depth and action of Ghost in the Shell. And Shakespeare, lots of references to English literature! How about you?

  7. So after reading @Illusion of Terra's post "Anime Forums Watching Anime Movies" It made me think it might be fun to have an Anime Forums streaming night. I often use a website called "Rabb.it" which allows someone to stream a show or movie and their friends to join and watch together. It also provides a chat box next to the movie so you can chat with your friends while watching the movie. I thought if enough people were interested it might be fun to do this one night and I'd be happy to host a movie night, or stream a show, if enough people were interested in joining and watching something together. Could probably stream for several hours with several different things to allow for people to join in at a convenient time. If you'd be interested let me know here and we can hopefully get together a movie night with enough popcorn to go around for our forums to have a little online get together ^^!

  8. So I decided to make some icons for everyone that you can feel free to upload and use on the forum. If anyone has any suggestions for characters I could make in the next batch, suggestions would be very welcome since I'm not really sure what all everyone would like to see. Another problem I have is that I have noticed on Chrome icons show up on the forum as 170x170 whereas on Firefox, they show up as 110x110. So if you use a browser with a different size setting these may look a bit off since they are 170x170 but if you have that problem let me know and I can resize it so it does not lose its quality :3 ! If you use, crediting me in your sig as the maker would be appreciated, but not 100% necessary. Just please don't claim as your own :3 Yu-Gi-Oh FMA and Fairy Tail Misc.

  14. Just wanted to open a thread (As suggested by seshi :3) to post some of my art stuffs, since I'm just working on learning to do better pieces in my spare time between writing. Still, I will outright say that I am in no way great, but I am still learning, so please be patient with me :3 (Addition) If you would like to check out more of my thingies, feel free to have a look at my newgrounds stuff too ( https://xyrodonatus.newgrounds.com/ ) But ya don't have to, I just like making the art for the fun of it ^^ Anywho! Ill start off with the one i did for the MHA contest on here, since Toga is one of my favourite characters in general. (One is just an alternate to the eyes I was using to figure out shading stuffs) just to add one of the most recent ones I have done, here's a little picture of Oshino Shinobu from the Monogatari series

  15. Naruto is know for it's large cast of lovable characters but as of episode 112 of the original series I can definitively say that Rock Lee is easily my favourite character in the series. Everything from his positive demeanor, to his underdog background is so very beautifully shounen, he's so very cheesy with his background of fighting back against those who didn't believe in him, finding comfort in Might Guy and rising to become a splendid ninja. But what I think makes him special is just how genuinely sympathetic, yet still endearingly passionate in the face of absolute failure and misfortune he can be. An example of what I've expressed comes from his legendary fight against Gaara in the preliminaries before the finals of the Chunin Exams. When he is defeated by Gaara we learn that he will never be able to return to being a shinobi due to the severity of his injuries, this causes Lee to question his future and everything up until this point becuase of his ethos being to never give up and that with hard work even he can become a splendid ninja but in spite of it all he keeps a positive outlook and whole heartedly believes he will one day recover with perseverance. Eventually Naruto finds the legendary healer Sanin Tsunade who is famous for her healing capabilities, however she urges Lee to quit being a shinobi due to his only option being life threatening surgery, at this point, desperate for an answer he asks Might Guy what to do, in a highly emotional climax both Lee and Might Guy decide that in order to coninue his dream he must never give up as that is his nindo, his ninja way. In the end he displays something so beautifully simple, that passion and perseverance will always pay off and that even in the worst of times we can continue to be better for ourselves and for those we love. Rock Lee is my favourite because he's corny and goofy and simple and so emblematic of what I love about shounen anime.

  22. Hi everyone, It has been hard reading this topic, I accept full responsibility for the current state of the community and issues that have occured due to my long absence. Back in 2019 I started a role at a mine site doing FIFO (fly in fly out). This is quite a strong industry here in Australia where personnel are flown in to remote mine sites to do a work roster (typically 12 hour days), then you fly back home to have days off at home. It depends on the company and your contract but some example rosters include: 2:2 (2 weeks on-site, 2 weeks break), 8:6. The intention of the Community Manager role that appeared around this was to give me an opportunity to take a step back from the Admin daily duties as I felt I didn't have as much spare time to commit to AF. I would continue to keep the server and software platform up to date and assist with any escalations and general guidance on the platform. By around Mid 2020 onwards it became apparant I was becoming more and more distant from AF due to the increasing demands and rigours of the job. Even on my rostered days off I was feeling disillusioned and seemed to have lost that creative spark I had prior to commencing that role. I was no longer engaging with AF at all except for just the usual server and software maintennace (and escalations via Discord). In October 2022, I resigned from my FIFO job. I was completely burned out in the role. I took two months off, clearing through my personal backlogs and catching up with friends and hobbies that I missed out on for so long. before deciding to finally return to the workforce looking for a new job. I recenetly found a new job with a much better work life balance and finally started to review AF in more detail to catch up when I came across this topic. Regarding the statements about my "intentions" This forum has always been a personal hobby, with the vision to unite like minded anime fans. To offer a fun alternative to the other forums that were out there at the time (with perhaps some nostalgia as forums were really popular back in the early 2000s). It was originally founded back in late 2012 under a different name "AN Community". In late 2014 I paid a considerable amount for the animeforums.net domain as it was an opportunity to help make it easier to find. Interestingly enough around this time we had other visitors confuse us with the preivous animeforums.com ... There are ongoing expenses including the software license and web server hosting fees (a VPS currently hosted in the US in Atlanta). Back in 2012 we started with MyBB (free open-source platform) but the features were lacking, so we migrated to XenForo. Then finally Invision Community. I don't have any intention of selling the domain or the website, especially after having paid expenses for so long to keep AF online. Next steps I have applied the changes to the Moderator team for those that want to move on, and you have my sincerest apologies for the ridiculous amount of time it took for me to reach this topic. I thank you wholeheatedy for your previous contributions. I am currently reviewing all the logs and recent activity feeds, if there are any outstanding issues please don't hesitate to reach out to me or @Myouya and it will be addressed promptly. I am reviewing the state of the platform and associcated add-ons and themes. I will be looking at putting together a new team to help revitialise AF. As I am now back in a typical job with normal working hours I will be able to step up and engage with the community. Again I am really sorry for my long absence and the state of AF, I make no excuses for that.

  24. To anyone who has made something or attempted to make something, you know this feeling too well. "Can I really do this? Who am I kidding? I don't know what I'm doing." I dabble in a lot of things. From web development, video editing, animation, web comics, making games, photography etc. But I never called myself a web developer, video editor, animator, artist, game developer, photographer. Because I never really felt I was one. I thought since I was a beginner and not as good as others, I shouldn't call myself a (insert title here). As it would be insulting to the REAL (insert title here). No matter what my accomplishments were, no matter how much experience I got, I was just a wannabe, a fake, an impostor. But then I realized.... you are what you do. Some people talk the talk and some walk the walk. Some think they are cool while some ARE cool. If you made a website, you are a web developer. If you made a web comic, you are an artist. If you took a photo, you are a photographer and so on. Many if not all veteran creatives went through this stage. Where they doubted themselves. But chose to keep going. And in the end, the feeling of being a wannabe disappeared. They became a real legitimate (insert title here). Have you ever felt impostor syndrome? How did you overcome it?

  25. Hello again, my fellow anime fans and welcome to this years Spring AF art contest - A Reverse Isekai Challenge! This fun contest is all about bringing your favorite anime characters into your world, instead of you going into theirs. With this in mind, all you have to do is pick a character that you wouldn't normally see in our modern clothes or perhaps a school uniform, and draw them in one instead of their usual outfit. Lets see what we can come up with! If you'd like to participate, do so by replying to this thread with your entry no later than April 15th. This will be a community voted event. The community will vote 1 winning entry to be featured for the remainder of Spring in the art block. 2020 Spring Art Contest Participation badges will be awarded for each participant and can be showcased with the rest of your awards and trophies on your profile. Feel free to discuss this contest and your decision making process in this thread as well. Lets all have fun~

  27. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays to everyone. I hope you've all been well. This season tends to get especially busy for some, but I hope you can stop during the rush of it all and remember to enjoy the special moments. For me, those are the little moments of sharing something new with someone you love. It's getting to snuggle up in my cozy new throw that I bought myself for christmas. And it's cooking a special dinner to share with my family. I hope yours looks like something similar. Have a great day everyone! I hope you have a Merry Christmas too. Feel free to share your favorite holiday song or video clip here as well.

  30. Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that in the coming days you will see some updates to the forum pages. I'd like to add in some different sub forums in the Anime section, and General section as well as reorganize the forums a tad. Bear with me, everything will have its place soon. I hope that you all enjoy the new layout and find it conducive to the conversations we all have going on here. I have also recently been doing a few updates, you'll notice some new features on the text editors, as well as updates to the tagging system, as it will now allow you to attach a "spoiler" prefix tag to your future posts. If you have any recommendations for more tags to be added, drop them in the Tag suggestion page. Thanks, Seshi

Kikyo from Inuyasha - I love her hair too. My hair used to be long enough to pull that off, but not anymore. 2.Also Seshoumaru 3. Kenshin Himura from Samurai X. Also his master.

  41. I agree with your sentiment. While it's true that cartoons and fiction feature imaginary characters and scenarios, they often reflect and influence our real-world desires, values, and aspirations. Many of the themes, values, and emotions portrayed in fiction resonate with us precisely because they tap into our fundamental human experiences and desires. For example, when we enjoy stories of bravery and heroism in fiction, it's because we admire those qualities in real life as well. When we connect with fictional characters' struggles, it's often because we can relate to similar challenges in our own lives. And when we find certain relationships or dynamics appealing in fiction, it's because they mirror our desires for connection and understanding in reality. So, dismissing the impact of fiction by saying, "It's not a real person," overlooks the profound ways in which fiction shapes our thoughts, values, and even our actions. Stories, whether in the form of cartoons, literature, or any other medium, have the power to influence and reflect our deepest desires and beliefs.

  44. At the peak of happiness. I've been on an antidepressant and I think it's doing me a lot of good. Most of my fears about this brand have passed. Learning about myself and taking action to change with my counselor. There was a time I wouldn't be talking about any of this but hiding away wasn't working out. I'm doing better at accepting myself because a few friends I've made showed me it was possible. Want to thank the old me for holding on so long. I can take it from here and I won't be forgetting.

  48. I love LOVE reading! Personally, I've always been a physical copy type of girl and rather not get a digital copy/e-reader. AND, I will buy books I love however, I do have a library card because... that **** is expensive....(I'd be broke with all the books I'd want to buy lol). When I was younger I had lived in Vancouver for a solid two years after that I wanted to move back home and needed to lug all of my books back with me. I never realized how much I loved reading until I had 3 suitcases of books and a duffel bag of clothing. *Priorities* I don't mind audio books, they're usually my go to when I can't sleep or have a long drive ahead of me....can't...use my hands ^^; When I was in University, I always felt a little like Hermione from Harry Potter, as I would usually be done most of my textbooks before the course truly started. I am a fairly fast reader and like to have a varied selection of books on the go. I can be a slightly annoying person when I get into a good book - my sister used to get angry at me as I would usually ignore everything around me until I was completed a story. Basically, I'm really good at ignoring the world around me when I have my nose in a good article or story. I'm always inspired by the authors of novels and how much research that must go into their work. I mean to create such captivating stories you must know a decent amount of a topic to be able to describe places, situations and actions. For example, you can't write a believable story about a climber if you know nothing about climbing, or it would be a pretty empty story line with no body. I always thought it would be such a fascinating job to become a writer because it gives you an outlet to learn as much as you can and share that knowledge in a variety of ways, although, I have always felt a disconnect from idea to paper. Those who are creative enough to come up with an idea and then bring that idea to fruition - you're amazing in my eyes and I thank you everyday. Here's a short list of some books I've read this past year - keep in mind, I read almost everything haha so it might not be up your alley (no particular order) - An Invisible Library (by Genevieve Cogman) "Series" - Deadly Outbreaks (by Alexandra Levitt) - The Memory Illusion (by Julia Shaw) (really neat book, read if you like to learn about memory in the use of crime, and whether or not its possible to implant memories on people) - Sleeping Beauties (by Stephen King) - Death by Video Games (by Simon Parkin) - The Rules of Magic (by Alice Hoffman) - The Bone Season (by Samantha Shannon) "Series" Mime order - How Can I help? A Week in My Life as A Psychiatrist (by David Goldbloom) - The View from the cheap seats (by Neil Gaiman) - The Night Circus (by Erin Morgenstern) - The Goldfinch (by Donna Tartt) - An Orchestra of Minorities (by Chigozie Obioma) - Lost Connections (by Johann Hari) - Sapiens (by Yuval Harari) General Recommendations: - Margaret Atwood is my favorite author .....so anything? haha - Haruki Murakami another fav auth (start with 1Q84) I also really enjoy poetry authors I would recommend (and are probably already known) - Rupi Kaur - B. Abbott (I have High Poet Society, but he has two books now I think?) - Lang Leav - John Donne Anyways, maybe I'll add more posts about books :3 I feel like, getting to know a person's reading list, really lets you get to know the person. And of course, here's a pic I am currently working on
