  1. I love LOVE reading! Personally, I've always been a physical copy type of girl and rather not get a digital copy/e-reader. AND, I will buy books I love however, I do have a library card because... that **** is expensive....(I'd be broke with all the books I'd want to buy lol). When I was younger I had lived in Vancouver for a solid two years after that I wanted to move back home and needed to lug all of my books back with me. I never realized how much I loved reading until I had 3 suitcases of books and a duffel bag of clothing. *Priorities* I don't mind audio books, they're usually my go to when I can't sleep or have a long drive ahead of me....can't...use my hands ^^; When I was in University, I always felt a little like Hermione from Harry Potter, as I would usually be done most of my textbooks before the course truly started. I am a fairly fast reader and like to have a varied selection of books on the go. I can be a slightly annoying person when I get into a good book - my sister used to get angry at me as I would usually ignore everything around me until I was completed a story. Basically, I'm really good at ignoring the world around me when I have my nose in a good article or story. I'm always inspired by the authors of novels and how much research that must go into their work. I mean to create such captivating stories you must know a decent amount of a topic to be able to describe places, situations and actions. For example, you can't write a believable story about a climber if you know nothing about climbing, or it would be a pretty empty story line with no body. I always thought it would be such a fascinating job to become a writer because it gives you an outlet to learn as much as you can and share that knowledge in a variety of ways, although, I have always felt a disconnect from idea to paper. Those who are creative enough to come up with an idea and then bring that idea to fruition - you're amazing in my eyes and I thank you everyday. Here's a short list of some books I've read this past year - keep in mind, I read almost everything haha so it might not be up your alley (no particular order) - An Invisible Library (by Genevieve Cogman) "Series" - Deadly Outbreaks (by Alexandra Levitt) - The Memory Illusion (by Julia Shaw) (really neat book, read if you like to learn about memory in the use of crime, and whether or not its possible to implant memories on people) - Sleeping Beauties (by Stephen King) - Death by Video Games (by Simon Parkin) - The Rules of Magic (by Alice Hoffman) - The Bone Season (by Samantha Shannon) "Series" Mime order - How Can I help? A Week in My Life as A Psychiatrist (by David Goldbloom) - The View from the cheap seats (by Neil Gaiman) - The Night Circus (by Erin Morgenstern) - The Goldfinch (by Donna Tartt) - An Orchestra of Minorities (by Chigozie Obioma) - Lost Connections (by Johann Hari) - Sapiens (by Yuval Harari) General Recommendations: - Margaret Atwood is my favorite author .....so anything? haha - Haruki Murakami another fav auth (start with 1Q84) I also really enjoy poetry authors I would recommend (and are probably already known) - Rupi Kaur - B. Abbott (I have High Poet Society, but he has two books now I think?) - Lang Leav - John Donne Anyways, maybe I'll add more posts about books :3 I feel like, getting to know a person's reading list, really lets you get to know the person. And of course, here's a pic I am currently working on

  4. Greetings and welcome again~ Yeah it is quite impressive this forum has stayed alive so long, huh? I have been here for over 5 years now, albeit not always very active. It's honestly heartwarming to see AF is still alive and well after all this time~ Anyways, I hope you enjoy your time here~

  7. Seeing how it was requested you share some history of yourself/any projects you've worked on and what not...well unfortunately I am not really qualified, I suppose, to be here That being said I do have vast interests and enjoy these sorts of discussions, and thus far have really enjoyed reading previous topics in this club. Soo a bit of background - I was basically a third year Geology student (2.5 years in) until oil and gas tanked in Canada and then just quit school. I have the option to go back but haven't decided (long personal excerpt could go here but I won't bore you). My sister and her husband are both geologists though. My brother in law has a masters in sedimentary rock and my sister was a geo-engineer (she's now a teacher though because...jobs). Geology is still a big interest of mine though. One thing that stuck with me from an intro course, which I thought to be super fascinating, was discussing how we are due for a geomagnetic reversal sometime soon ...by soon I mean eventually (this is not a doomsday type of topic) the reversal would create issues, but not like mass extinction issues. You might have seen articles last year that discussed the need to updating the magnetic polar north much more earlier than planned and then they will have to do it again pretty soon here in 2020 as it is still moving quite fast. But, this process is still slow. Anyways, I thought it was neat and wanted to discuss it (not sure if others knew about the phenomenon). But, you all seem to be very well versed in natural sciences Quick PBS video for anyone who does not know what I am talking about Seriously, I suck at spoiler tags =-=

  15. Hmm... that depends on my mood tbh. I watch romance whenever I want to just relax and listen to the sweet exchange of words. I watch shonen otherwise. But then again, I do prefer reading light novels than watching anime. How do you feel about modern music like dubstep, EDM and things?

  16. I suppose, I should make an actual art post considering this is all new haha. Lets start with a picture I drew of a co-worker. She was sad one day because she didn't like her nose. I was a bit flabbergasted as I feel this person is beautiful inside and out....and so, I drew her lol Got to love inspiration no matter where it comes from. Now this one started as a sketch (just pencil) I have this sketch if anyone wants to see it haha... colored it after with some copics, and then did some edits on my phone. It is by no means exciting, quality isn't amazing....but it made my friend's day so who cares? ^.- My friend loves astronomy I tend to do a lot of mixed media in my work ^^;

  20. I used to read all the time as a child. My parents would take me & my sister to the library every week. And then all through college & my early working life I would read during my lunchbreaks. It’s a habit I’ve gotten away from for various reasons, but would like to get back into. Most of what I read is either fantasy or scifi since that is what interests me most. I’ve always been a physical media person as opposed to ebooks or audiobooks. On a related note, here are a couple anime with bibliophile MC’s you might want to check out

  21. Oh wow, the animation! How cu...u...ttee? 0_0;;;;;;; Bye bye earth. Hello nuclear winters. This video made me start thinking about if Yellowstone exploded and the ash fall that would basically consume most of America and south Canada. Add in wind. Funtimes. Also, I enjoyed how they pulled a rubber duct from the rock bedding.

  23. I was reading a book called Lost Connections by Johann Hari (Highly recommend for people who are dealing with depression and want another insight on how to cope beyond drugs...or I suppose understand more of the environmental causes of depression), and one chapter actually discusses peoples fears of doing what they dream of doing. (His example was a man who wanted to open a fishing business or something along those lines) WRITE THAT GOAL DAMNIT haha @The History Kid Have you been before at least? I was a sad kid too =-= I think my journal would be quite depressing to read hahah Although, I agree with you, it would be neat to write another self reflection. I have no clue what I would write....midlife crisis bwahah I don't know what my new goals are. ALSO - sorry, speaking of past writings, you guys should check out https://open.spotify.com/show/4ujhMZWw65aklkutNnwmJN its a podcast series called The Mortified and its basically people reading past entries to journals, assignments....they're cringe moments and its more comedy. If you're feeling nostalgic haha. (NOT SAYING @Anime loveer 's post was cringe. I'm saying mine would be so no offense to be made.

  24. Awe, I miss HS bwahah, so much freedom and excitement to really define yourself. Although, I also know so many people who didn't like HS, just viewed it as another step to get out into the "real" world. I think is awesome to stop and self reflect. I hope you realize your goal of being happy :] but, don't get to caught up on the small stuff - work on things that make you happy. Explore the things you're curious about. Not sure what you want to do in the future for education, job shadow, talk to people, find mentors. I like how you wrote "don't compare yourself to others". I think that is really important to realize.

  27. I sure hope so! And maybe it's just me but I would love to get more side quests/back stories for the other members of Black Bulls like Gordon, Grey, & Charmy! I mean, yes, the series has touched on them a bit but their characters are actually deeper than some of them others that I feel have been delved into a bit more. Sames goes for some of the other members of different groups like the captain of the Green Mantises, for example. That dude GOES IN when he is battling so I would love to learn more about him. His name is Jack The Ripper for crying out loud! Also, the Captain of the Peacocks who's always asleep & just go ahead & throw in every family member from the Vermillion family because they do not play around at all!

  31. I'm actually very surprised that the forum remained active for a veeeery long time. As one of the veterans(if I can even call myself that), it brings a tear to my eyes. I also love that this is still here, because I'm the one that requested this.

  32. I'm currently home with a cold =3= just going through more of my past pictures to post and watching Mia Maples on Youtube, because her mom and daughter videos are cute and funny. These pastel works are older, I haven't really tried pasteling in awhile....but I have some velour paper I use to color on, and some rough drafts for the picture itself. This is a kinkajous and panda.. what are some animals you love? Pastelling is really forgiving, I like to use oil pastels because it looks almost like paint when its complete. You have more control over your colors and blending is very easy and there is no drying time needed. You do have to be careful with the paper because you don't want to indent it and create crease lines. You can also use pencil crayons for details like hair/fur/whiskers/eyes...(pencil crayons like prismacolor). Anyways enjoy the video haha

  33. This was the start of a birthday gift for another friend. She is a Power Rangers fanatic. We always talk about our childhood memories of Power Rangers...she would go visit her grandad he would watch PR with her and discuss epic ninja battles (He was into martial arts movies in general). And I......was not allowed to watch it because it was deemed to violent. (SO SILLY) She loves villains hence Scorpina. Reference and sketch - I do not have the colored picture =-= I'm bad at photographing all my work afterwards haha Who do you usually fall for in a show? Villain or Hero?

  34. I figured it would be important to introduce this blog before I actually just go forth and post. Although, how essential is an actual intro when you aren't really sure what you'll be posting? Yes, there will be random posts of artwork. Yes, I will probably vent some frustrations when dealing with a piece. I assume, I will probably leave some insight as to what has worked for me during a piece or not. IF that ever comes up (and that is totally dependent on whether or not I post more than sketches). I suppose, it would be up to you - the reader, as to where this should go. Please let me know if a work interests you, if you're curious how it was done, if you would like to know my process, if you have any questions about products I use, how I use them, and or any general statements. Art critics are welcome, will it be acknowledged? Maybe, maybe not every time, but I will read it nonetheless ^^v If this doesn't go anywhere and I ghost you all. Please forgive me. - Nyx

  35. Well, tonight I reported my first fireball. Actually it's my second fireball....my first I didn't think about reporting and it literally lit up the sky right in front of my husband and me a few years back. First one I reported anyways to the American Meteor Society. I saw it this morning and looking at the most recent compiled reports (which mine will be added to), I'm convinced that over 150 other people saw it too. I know fireballs are supposed to be once in a lifetime events for people so I feel real lucky I saw this one. Makes me happy I went outside to freeze my pain away this morning. Otherwise I would have missed it completely. Anyone else ever spot a fireball in the sky?

  36. @Keiko Just saw this (published about a week ago): https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.122.084501#fulltext Apparently, simple sound waves when they pass through solids and fluids have negative mass too They say that the sound wave/particle "carries (negative) mass. Moreover, this is not due to the usual equivalence of mass and energy in relativity: the effect survives in the nonrelativistic limit. And, finally, it is not a quantum effect, because the formalism of Ref. [1] applies unaltered to classical waves."

  37. So neither of us is exactly an expert in quantum, however one of us is a chemist. As far as we understand it, the two places at once thing is not 100% accurate. Instead, when you look for something in a place where it could theoretically be, it is there, and when you look for it in another place where it could theoretically be, it is there. Something that a lot of people don't understand is that quantum mechanics is effective on the particular level. We're talking single electrons. Even molecules are too big. One of the more interesting properties of particles is quantum tunnelling. That basically means that a particle can pass through an energy barrier that it should not be able to break. Imagine you throw a tennis ball at a wall. It bounces off because it does not have enough energy to break the wall. Now if you shoot a cannon ball at the wall it goes straight through, because it has enough energy to break the barrier. With a particle, even if it doesn't have enough energy to break the barrier, there is still a non-zero probability of it passing through. There are multiple explanations for this, but one that we particularly like is the 4th dimensional particle one. To explain this, we're going to drop down to 2D vs. 3D, because 4D objects are exceptionally hard to visualise. Imagine you are a 2D person throwing a 2D tennis ball (circle) at a 2D wall (line). It will just bounce off of the wall. Drawing in the spoiler below. If however you were a 3D person throwing a 3D tennis ball (sphere) at a 2D wall (line), you could just throw it around/over the wall. Image in the spoiler below. To a 2D observer, it would look like you had just thrown a 2D tennis ball (circle) through a 2D wall (line). This same property also works if you scale up to 3D vs. 4D. A 4D tennis ball (hypersphere) can go around a 3D wall (cuboid) by simply stepping into the 4th dimension. It does however bring up the interesting suggestion that we are 3D observers made of 4D particles passing linearly through 5D time.
