  1. I've watched about 7 episodes of Samurai Champloo & while I really enjoy the aesthetic, the story line just isn't enough to keep me interested. I'm about to check out Mushi-shi, which I've heard is a pretty good horror anime. We'll see.

  2. Do I think this could happen? In a word, no. In a bunch more words... I don’t think we need fantasy anyway though. The real universe is quite amazing enough without having to resort to magic and fantasy. It doesn’t mean that Merlin can’t be a wizard. We just have define “wizard” to be a cyborg with built-in WiFi and his own nanite swarm. You can do a lot with genetic engineering too, though maybe flying, fire-breathing dragons might be a bit much to ask for, at least here on Earth. Even magic has limits. And how about water? Made literally of some of the most common elements in the universe, you can find it pretty much everywhere. Great chemical solvent.. you can do all sorts of chemistry in water. And did you know ice floats? Of course you did. Why does ice float though? Yeah, yeah. Less dense than water. But that’s opposite to the way virtually every other substance known to man works. Throw a chunk of “frozen” (room temp) iron in a pot of the molten metal and it sinks. If water did that then ice would sink to the bottom of lakes and rivers and cover up all the plants and sediment. Instead it floats, so it covers the surface, which actually creates a nice little protected habitat for life underneath the ice. Amazing stuff water. Probably couldn’t have life without it. Certainly not as we know it. All sorts of other amazing stuff out there besides water too. It’d be kind of a shame to ignore them all in a quest for “magic” or “fantasy”. Things like physics, chemistry, electronics and computer programming... those are my kind of fantastic. No need for the fake stuff in my universe.

  3. personally i'm very picky abt my coffee hahaha. what exactly do you have to do for you to enjoy your coffee? how do you make it? do you like any weird flavors of coffee? and if youd rather tea than coffee, what kind? i drink my coffee with a dash of peppermint creamer, nutmeg, and two tablespoons of sugar. i also love banana-flavored coffee and masala chai (which is kind of cheating because that's tea..) what about you?

  8. There's an exoplanet by the name Gliese 436 b which has a surface pressure so great that despite temperatures well in excess of boiling point, water is forced into a solid state ("Hot ice"). I'd say this is more fascinating than anything seen in fantasy

  13. Usually japanese live actions are much better than the western ones but hey, that's just my opinion.

  27. This is my first post in this forum. I don't know if this will reach many people, but that doesn't matter. I just want my first post to be about my favorite character-Itachi Uchiha from the anime 'Naruto'. Itachi Uchiha- The ninja from Konohagakure who sacrificed all his dreams for the sake of his village. A true dark knight. It all began when he was four years old and was standing in the middle of the aftermath of a Ninja War, where he desperately tried not to cry in front of his father, but couldn't stop the tears from rolling down anyway. Seeing all the dead bodies and the corpses with horrified faces twisted in agony, he decided then and there-He would get rid of war from the world and to achieve that, He'd become the best ninja there was. [mal type=character id=1] [mal type=anime id=1] Then something happened when he was five. An irreplaceable moment, when he held his lovely little brother in his arms. The responsibility he felt towards the little life he now held very dear was unfathomable. Sasuke- the only bundle of joy and hope and light that had kept him going within the darkness throughout his life. Itachi was a pacifist. He questioned 'reality' and 'truth' itself and always tried to see the world without any preconceptions. All he ever wanted was peace and to uphold the peace, he was determined enough to kill his entire family and clan-his own kin-for it. He'd do anything-anything for it, as long as it didn't harm his younger brother. Sasuke was the only one he could never lose in his life, the only one who he wouldn't allow to be sacrificed- his dear brother. The story of Itachi while did start out as a journey to become the greatest ninja and to rid the world of fighting, wasn't about that. In the end, it was all about the love for his younger brother and the bond between them. It was simply the undying love of an elder brother. Itachi Uchiha, the one who protected the peace from within the shadows.

  30. There are already natural creatures like the bombardier beetle that can spray scalding chemicals. There’s also pigs, rabbits, mice, and other creatures that have been engineered to glow in the dark, using genetic material from jellyfish. Arbitrary data can be encoded in DNA and passed along to later generations. At this point I wouldn’t want to claim anything was impossible. As long as it is not directly contradicting the laws of physics anyway. Even there I’m keeping an open mind.. we still don’t know everything there is to know about the universe(s). (Though we do know quite a lot.)

  37. Hi there! I might start studying Japanese soon as well, depending on my next job, so if I have a question I know who to ask One Piece won't end, we all know it I am currently watching Black Clover, it is quite alright, I'd say a rather typical shonen. Something more comedic that I found great was Nichijou might want to see if it is to your taste.

  40. I love Krita thats my recommendations for free software (close to photoshop - allows layers so you don't mess up your work) and there are tons of tutorials out there). Your tutorials are awesome @Ryan Dave Jimenez When drawing, for sketching YES just use any sketchbook. You'll notice acidity levels and allowable mediums to use on your support (term for paper/canvas/wood whatever is supporting you medium). Ignore acidity just view mediums you can use like pencil/graphite/marker IF you're going the traditional way just to make it easier. Try out different supports though, you might find you like one option more then another. I have a friend who loves drawing on black paper. For clean line work, crisp sheets, marker friendly paper, I tend you use paper that's good for copics OR bristol. ALSO, light boxes are awesome for tracing over your rough draft instead of erasing lines and being left with indents in your paper. If you don't have a light table or light box, use a lamp under a glass table...I used to do that back in the day before I got a drafting table. If anyone wants tips on traditional art hit me up, I used to give art lessons to seniors because its fun and am a post grad fine art student.

  41. Color theory becomes really important for artists who want to delve into use of colors (people who do advertising and design), BUT, like everyone says manga's don't really use colors inside your actual panels (unless its a special addition, cover, or inlays usually the cost of time would make that specific manga pretty expensive). Generally you would use tones/screentones/overlays and you can definitely take on your own personal style (sharper lines, contrasting weight difference when it comes to more dynamic pictures). Also, if you DID want to add color to your work, you could just choose one highlighting color - no shades or highlights. For example if you were writing a horror story you could throw in red as a bold pop to important scenes. Most of the time, if you are actually working in the comic industry you would take on one role within the whole comic making process. For example, if you work for DC comics, you could take on the role of just doing the inking of an image. Then it would get sent to a colorist and then it would get sent to a typographer to do lettering. (This is for big ongoing comic stories). However, if you did your own comic online like mentioned @Ryan Dave Jimenez , your work really could be overlooked because of the lack of color....even if the story is well made. I personally think that solely depends on the format the comic takes as this isn't always the case - strip comics reading from top to bottom in a line... unless the work is dynamic, would be not as interesting as colored work. Anyways, please don't give up dreams to become a comic artist. Being able to do color would be an asset but not a requirement. As mentioned, you could always hire someone to color for you, OR find a friend you could collaborate with.
