  2. Oh man, my first time eating and experiencing Corn Smut was very unusual. Telling myself that eating a black mold substance was good and alright took some time. When thinking about it though, it would be the equivalent of working with squid ink or any type of fungus really. Corn Smut is really REALLY fun to play with in a variety of different cuisines, it pretty much adds a huge depth of flavor and big umami bomb. Huitlacoche is probably the easiest and one of the tastiest things to make with it, highly recommend getting some and playing around with it! Pickled asparagus is so good, if done right, and it isn't all floppy and soggy, and in moderation lol I put a really awesome Asparagus Croque on a brunch menu once, with grilled, pickled, and fried asparagus with a sunny egg. Talking about it again, makes me want to make this for dinner now! Too bad asparagus season is over in my area *cry*

  3. Thanks! I hope to stick around also. I have seen Recovery of an MMO Junkie and really enjoyed it! The relationship between Morioka and her coworkers was so fun and great to watch, not to mention when she finally broke down her walls! I have been a sous chef in the city I live in for the last 4 years, so any anime food stuff I actually attempt to cook. I guess it isn't anime, but actually food, expressed in anime. I'm sure you'll see me post a ton of anime food stuff also *thumbs up* GOW: "I was practicing, how to walk on my own. There in that place. Even if i'm barefoot."

  6. I just saw a youtube video of some guys trying some really spicy food and thought back to something I did, and got the idea for this. Have you ever eaten or drank something that was exceptional to the point of being disgusting, dangerous or in any other way unusual? For me it was when I was a kid and I visited a friend whose family came from Napoli/Naples. His grandmother (who was living there) was the stereotypical Italian mom you imagine, and they brought really spicy pepper (the thin long ones, I don't know the English name for it). I used to eat a lot of spicy things back then, and couldn't imagine something being really all that spicy. I hadn't counted on the sun dried Neapolitan pepper though and just munched on it like it was nothing (they told me they only use a small slice for a whole pot of pasta but I thought I knew better). Soon afterwards I felt a burning sensation quickly spreading from my tongue, through my mouth to my nose, face and lungs. It was so spicy that it felt like someone was literally pouring fire over me All the others were rolling on the floor laughing while I was in agony and almost blanked out. They gave me a lot of cold milk but that only helped for like a second. At some point my mouth went numb and I was sweating buckets. It took like half an hour to get to a point where the pain started to recede. I was just relieved that the burning sensation was gone at some point

  7. Hello, This is the first anime forum/group that I have joined, and am both excited and curious about it. I am a long time anime and manga enthusiast. Though haven't had many (interested) friends really, to converse with about it. Thus, I am on here. I am a bit of an old soul and a romantic, so I will probably tend to post sappy old romantic stuff. On the flip side of that, late 90's and early 00's emo is right up there with Chopin and Debussy for me. Needless to say i'm a bit all over the board. Im into Astronomy and tend to photograph that a lot. I like to dabble in drawing manga (though I wouldn't say i'm that great at it, my story telling lacks finesse). I do love to sketch and am fairly ok at oil paintings, medium aside. I like to think that I tend to gravitate towards developed and real world anime, but always find myself off in a far off fantastical anime, amongst the monsters, they intrigue me more. 8. What I wouldn't give for a good pair of glow sticks, a pair of JNCO jeans(oh yes...I said it! lol), and to have my hair done up in bright purple braided pigtails. Yeah...when I was in high school, I was something ELSE!

  9. I am no professional chef but cooking is a major hobby of mine & I'm quite interested in making dishes from some of my favorite anime shows. Please post pics of anything that you make I'm actually writing a book now about a woman who is a talented caterer & she discovers she has these wild abilities that she'll have to use to take down this ancient cult. I plan to post some of the recipes in the back of the book. I swear, if I was ever in the mood for an anime picnic, it is right...now!!!

  10. I had made onigiri the night before, so I just grabbed a couple while on the way out the door. The pickled plum one was a little harsh, but did effectively wake me up.

  12. I know exactly how S2 is going to end, and I dont think anyone's kokoro will be ready. I get the impression that you guys havent read the manga so I can see why the character development these kids gets seems so outstanding. The source material is hecka hecka good, and yeah @Ohiotaku you are so right about kyo and what will happen soon with him. Being born in the year of the rooster I feel for Kureno as you get so little of him in the overall story line but even so his character has so much depth too. Rin and Tohru being in good terms is definitely the turning point of this story. As a wise man once said S*** gunna get real, son.

  13. This week didn’t feel as heavy as Rin’s episodes, but still had a lot of emotional & psychological content to analyze. We finally find out the connection between Kakeru & Machi and how the different ways they handle their family issues ties into their different personalities. Kakeru responds by “laughing it off” with over the top behavior. While Machi internalizes it until it comes out as outbursts of frustration. I fully anticipated the traumatic flashback Yuki had locked in the closet, but the fact that he didn’t have a full blown panic attack shows he’s gotten stronger. Maybe just me over reaching, but can’t help but see some foreshadowing in Machi being the one to break the door down. More & more think these two could wind up a couple. It’s also nice that he’s starting to lighten up more & there’s even some early signs of things improving with his mom. The casting for the school play is hilarious, have to think their classmates are having some fun at their expense. Tohru being cast as The Wicked Stepsister & her promising to be “more evil than the devil” made me laugh until I couldn’t see I really hope we get to see it in it’s entirety, not just vignettes.

  14. Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here Can definitely relate to your comments about being an “old soul” & not really having irl friends that are into anime. Fortunately members here are really nice & I’ve been hanging around here almost 2 years now. Serious romances or dramas aren’t genres I’ve really spent a whole lot of time on, but really love the currently airing Fruits Basket remake. There are a couple of us watching & commenting on it here so I would highly recommend it. I’d also recommend Science Fell in Love, so I Tried to Prove It & Recovery of an MMO Junkie as examples of short but enjoyable romcoms. I tend to enjoy exploring lots of different genres, but my favorites tend to be Fantasy & Supernatural. Anyway, glad you found your way here & hope you stick around.

  15. Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't like those characters, just that I wouldn't want a sequel (reboot, etc.) using those characters. Especially not after that ending, It is fine the way it is. As for Carole & Tuesday, that's a good question. I didn't watch it personally. I know some people were calling it a CB sequel of sorts though, mostly because of the Alba City setting, the "woolong" as currency, and the musical theme. How could one not make the connection? Probably why there was also a few people who were calling it simply a money-grab after the success of CB. I waited to see if it got good reviews and when I didn't hear anything I kind of forgot about it.

  17. @efaardvark I generally feel that a single cour (12 - 13 episodes) isn’t really enough time to tell a well developed story without it feeling incomplete or rushed. The 24 - 26 episode range seems to work pretty well. But after 100+ episodes, a series usually has to be pretty special to not feel repetitive or too reliant on filler. Of course those are just generalizations. If they ever made a direct sequel to Cowboy Bebop, I doubt I would even watch it. To me the way it ended was what made a lasting impression on me. And I’ve mentioned it before, but I still hope that the fact that the Battle Angel Alita live action movie seems to have some fans will lead to a more comprehensive anime adaption of the manga than that 2 episode OVA series from way back when, since it was one of the few manga I really got into.

  18. Dying? No, though we may be headed for another shake up like back in the late 90’s/early 2000s. As someone who has been watching anime in some format or another for approximately 40 years, I see nothing on the horizon to make me think otherwise.

  23. That hilarious! Not the vomit part... but most of it lol. I went to Spain and had a similar experience with a menu being entirely in spanish... Now friends.. Don't get cocky and think you know enough Spanish when you actually don't... Don't guess because you'll not even be in the ballpark! I accidentally ordered pickled asparagus for my main dish at lunch... That was an extremely sad moment for me

  24. The worst experience I think I have ever had with food was when I was visiting my friend overseas. Her family was going out for a birthday party at a really upscale French Italian restuarant and the menu was mostly not in English and I didn't understand anything that I could read for that matter so I just said I would have what my friend was having. So I get my salad and it;s really good but I can't figure out what in the heck I'm eating so I lean over to ask my friend what's in this to which she informs me it's a snail salad. It has snails in it. I am eating snails. I threw up all over the table into my plate and ran to the bathroom and didn't want to leave lmfao. I kind of single-handedly ruined that birthday dinner...At least my friend thought it was hilarious I guess? X-X Never again have I ordered something that I don't know what's in it.

  28. @Seshi maybe you should've tried snorting some milk The most recent strange encounter I've had with food happened a couple of months ago. My friend invited me to a restaurant with his friend, and her two friends, one of which they were trying to set me up with. I'd never been to this place before, so I kept it simple and ordered a buffalo chicken salad. Well, I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the menu, cause when I got my salad, you'd of thought I ordered a blue cheese salad with a side of lettuce and chicken. I'd never tried blue cheese before that, but, being that I was trying to be cool for this girl, I didn't say anything. I didn't want to make a big deal and have her think, 'wow, this moron can't even order his own food right'. So I said f it, I took a bite and sure enough, just as I thought, I didn't like it one bit. It was a nasty stinging sensation on my tongue. I took a big gulp of water, and then waited til no one was looking and dumped about a half bottle of tabasco sauce on my salad. It was enough to kill the flavor of the blue cheese. I was able to make it through dinner, but unfortunately, even though we clicked, I haven't seen that girl since. I was later told those other two girls are the worst (or best?) cockblockers there is. They were too jelly of their friend and didn't want to give her my number, or give me her number. But long story short, me no like blue cheese, lol.

  29. Yea, similar - I was very young and didn’t know what those spicy red pepper flakes were in a salt shaker (larger holes) and I liked to smell all of the spices that were available... I’ve always loved food well.. they went into my nose and lit me up for a while, and nothing I could do would make the burning stop, just had to wait it out.
