  1. Even if things are painful and tough, people should appreciate what it means to be alive. – Yato (Noragami)

  3. I think a lot about of it can be attributed to the literary predecessors of the “isekai” genre (Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, etc. ) Also probably the most detailed fantasy world in literature would probably be Tolkein’s Middle Earth which largely inspired Dungeons & Dragon’s & RPGs in general).

  5. While I don’t intend to pause ALL my simulcast viewing, I am going to temporarily switch my focus to bingeing on Netflix because: All episodes of Monster are now available. Back in the day I was watching it on Syfy/Chiller, but issues with my cablebox/DVR prevented me from finishing it. They finally added more eps of the original Inuyasha. The final season of Aggretsuko debuts the middle of this month. Hopefully the remainder of Uncle from Another World will be available by the time I finish those. Or else I’ll check out the new Junji Ito or Bastard’s 2nd season

  6. Another question about Isekai occurs to me. I admit that this view is largely drawn from reading reviews and watching the odd YouTube clip rather than watching whole Isekai series, but why is it that just about every Isekai story is about someone who finds themselves transported to a time that resembles the medieval world of the English middle ages as popularised by the stories based on the Arthurian legends? I don't recall hearing of an Isekai where someone is transported to a world several centuries in the future. But I suppose that goes back to my earlier point about originality in story writing, it's far easier to write a story set in a time where there is a lot of background detail already known than to create a whole new world.

  7. Yes, I'm sick of it. That said, Sturgeon's Law applies to anime the same as to everything else. BTW, the part about "the majority of anime nowadays just caters to pervs" is also what they said about comic books in the 40s and 50, science fiction back in the 50s and 60s, and several other other genres and formats before they became mainstream, including the internet itself. It might even be true. But the second part of Sturgeon's Law says we should judge things by the better 10%. I don't have time to watch it all anyway. At least it makes it easy to decide what to watch and what to avoid.

  8. Sometimes I think I'm already watched all the good anime out there until I find another masterpiece. Right now I'm watching "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" second season and compare to season 1, it is quite intense!

  9. This evening I started watching series 1 of Chihayafuru. This is a sports anime based around a Japanese card game called Karuta which requires a good memory to play as it's based on 100 traditional Japanese poems. Until I started watching this series I had no idea that there was such a card game or that it was a competitive sport and it's not a sport that I would have thought was interesting to watch. So far my opinion of the series is favourable, I found it interesting, and even exciting in places, to watch and it has a good cast of characters and good artwork and animation.

  15. Hello everyone, I'm Wolfe I just joined the fourm and I've been cosplaying for two years and have two complete cosplays. I'm a huge fan of school / slice of life type of animes. I've been to Holmat 2019 and plan to bring Velma and (hopefully) Ron Weasley / year 3 to that con. Here's some of Velma, so proud of her!

  17. My Anime List is a site where you can not only list the anime you’re watching, but what series you’ve completed/dropped/put on hold/plan to watch along with rating them (1 - 10). I tend to be pretty stingy with my ratings, giving most a 6 or 7. Very few 10s
