  1. Caroline makes a good point, and the poll results speak for themselves. We shall have a human AND animal mascot in one! Digimon style. Thank you all for your opinions. I will get in touch to get some designs up and the best one shall be chosen.
  2. Do you get stuff delivered to your work or home address out of curiosity?
  3. Happy 21st birthday to ankokuryuumugen! Many happy returns.
  4. Hello everyone! It's time for AN to establish a unique logo, and to do this... we need a mascot! In all our previous layouts including the old AN and TDFN forums we have never had a unique logo, it was always text based on a banner. The mascot will be an animal, so please vote on the poll for the type of animal you would like to see! If needed, elaborate more by posting as well! Once we have a majority vote: 1. Commissioning for the mascot design itself will commence. 2. A number of logos featuring the mascot will be announced and another poll will appear. 3. The most popular logo will be used in all future AN forum layouts and branding.

Oh! What cases do you have for your iPhones and iPads? You already saw my blue one for my iPad 2.
  7. I think it's difficult to try and discern (recognise) your own talent, usually someone else has to recognise it because in your own mind it may be quite normal for you! As for my talent? Still working on it, I'll get back to you on that one.
  8. There was one Taylor Swift song that used to be on the radio all the time: You Belong With Me. I also remember playing Band Hero on my PlayStation 3. It's a pop version of Guitar Hero (before Activision axed the series), and it had THREE TAYLOR SWIFT songs on it! I was like "Wha.... no other artist gets three songs in Guitar Hero... " But all good, as it was fun to play through them. They were: You Belong With Me, Love Story and Picture to Burn.
  9. Do you have an SSD drive installed in your laptop or desktop computer? I myself have an Intel 520 (120 GB) installed in my desktop as my main Windows drive. It is really fast and as many people say, it's hard to go back to a non SSD drive. Unfortunately the capacity is not big enough to put all your files on it of course so I only put Windows and core applications on it (Office, Adobe suite, etc.) Games go on my other 1.5 TB HDD. Also have another 2 TB HDD for video projects. SSD prices are definitely a lot cheaper than they used to be on Day 1 and are slowly coming down, but are still quite expensive.

    Apple Products

Hey guys, Just curious what Apple products (if any) you own or use at work? And what are your impressions? For me: My first Apple product was an iPhone 3GS, it was my very first Smartphone. I really do think the phone market changed a lot when Apple released their first iPhone five years ago in 2007! I work at an Apple school, so all the students use MacBook laptops, iPads, and iMacs in the computer labs. We also have Mac Mini servers hosting our Wiki servers, though we still use Dell servers for Active Directory and network file storage. As a result I use a MacBook Pro at work and using Mac OS X for the first time was really daunting for me. It took me a month to get used to the interface and then 6 months to really get used to all the system preferences underneath and Apple terms. Which do I prefer? Well I think Mac OS X is a great platform for development because you have the Unix terminal and most if not all development programs have a Mac version now. However, I still prefer PCs for gaming. I love building PCs at home and upgrading them, finding a beautiful case to go with it and putting it all together and optimising it. You just don't have that same range of upgrades or choice when you buy a Mac. But Apple products look great too, if not more expensive! They're using a lot of aluminum lately with their recent MacBook Airs and iPhone 5 releases. Apple is great if you want it to just work, with no hassle under a single package. What about you?
  11. Doom. When I was really young. F.E.A.R. would be the last one that truly got under my skin. Those that have played it will know what I mean, similar to Japanese horror films. Too bad the sequels weren't as scary and became more action oriented.

    Guild Wars II

Would you suggest playing the previous Guild Wars games first as a newcomer to this series? I.e. is there any significant lore/story in the prior games?
  14. Going to give the first episode of Gundam Seed Remastered a go tonight, my first Gundam TV Series experience! If I like it a lot I might start making site content for it...?
  15. English breakfast tea, full cream milk, two sugars is my absolute favourite tea.

Personal preference really, as long as the batter is done correctly and is tasty it'll steam real nice inside. Our shop offers Silver Snapper, Flake (Shark), Red Emperor and Baramundi. Sadly I am allergic to most fish, doesn't stop me from having a small amount every now and then though. Smells too good. Brick and mortar. Most of our fish comes in frozen, which is the reality for most suburban F&C shops. The ones that are by the ports or beaches will usually offer fresh fish, for a premium. Despite the frozen fish, if cooked well consistently it still tastes GREAT and we get a lot of great feedback and repeat customers for our sensible prices and awesome batter. Customer service helps too, awesome tasting hot chips, great tasting batter, oil filtered weekly and lots of menu options including grilled fish and hamburgers on the grill.
  17. Those penguin characters remind me of Twitter... Must add this to my viewing list, looks interesting!

Eck! Black oil would indicate it is too old, OR they haven't filtered it regularly. Source: family Fish & Chip shop business.

    Forum Backends

For those that are interested, here is a list of active forum backends that I know of which are still being updated. These ones you'll need to install on your webhost. Free: MyBB SMF Vanilla Flarum Discourse (requires Ruby, not PHP) Paid: vBulletin IP.Board (formerly Invision Power Board) Xenforo Of course... why leave one of the best forums around? *cough* AN.
  21. What graphics card does your laptop have? Source engine is pretty old, this mod uses the 2007 Source SDK.
  22. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. A novel we studied in Year 9 at High School. Sci-fi, space academies, fear of invasion, young fleet commanders in training with a bizarre twist at the end. And it looks like a film adaption is being made for a 2013 release!
  23. Hello Knas! Good to see you again. Welcome aboard! If you have any forum suggestions, feedback or content requests please don't hesitate to let me know.
  24. I'm not a heavy reader, however this has been on my mind for sometime now. What makes a good book? The style of writing? Memorable characters? Great prose? A unique plot? I think when it comes to books the style of writing is very important for me, if it's great I will definitely find it hard to put down. Naturally a good book will have all the above but which characteristic is the most important in your opinion?

    McDonald's

Now this sounds really tasty! Oh WHY didn't I try out Maccas when I was in Amsterdam!! Mail me one. Malteser McFlurries are better. Oh man... was that the same bun they used for the new Lamb burger? I remember those Deli baguettes they used to sell... they were really tasty. I also remember the Lean Beef Burger which was actually decent, mixed lettuce and spicy tomato sauce. Then surprise surprise, they went to Ketchup and normal lettuce before eventually taking it off the menu. Seems the only items immune to their downsizing is their standard items... -- My responses: 1. I have it 3 times a week for my lunch break at work. But the main reason for this is the lack of a decent coffee machine at our work. And I love McCafe coffees. And this loyalty card probably doesn't help either: 2. We have a few unique items in Aussie Maccas. They're really pushing out this Lamb Burger (I think it's terrible!), Angus burgers were quite recent too which we adopted from the American Maccas but with different fillings. Grand Angus (salad) and Mighty Angus (bacon and onion relish). McCafe is also in just about every Maccas here with a dining area. I found the absence of McCafe throughout London and Amsterdam to be surprising! Most likely because Starbucks and Nero dominated first in London, and similar to Amsterdam I imagine. 3. Like Corrupt, my all-time favourite is the Big Mac. There is something about that sauce and crispy lettuce and diced onion that keeps drawing me back. Thankfully they have kept the recipe more or less intact other than the gradual downsizing of the bun and patties... I swear they used to be bigger.
