I found out a bit more about Imgur blocking the UK and there seems to be more to it than I thought according to this article: "Imgur's decision to block access in the UK is a result of a disagreement with the ICO over data collection and protection policies. The ICO was investigating the company for potential non-compliance with data protection laws, specifically concerning the data collected on minors, and had threatened to fine Imgur. The block is a consequence of the UK's Online Safety Act, which requires platforms to implement stricter rules for user data and online safety, particularly for minors. Imgur's decision was a way to avoid compliance with these new UK rules." ICO = Information Commissioner's Office (The UK's data protection dept)
  15. There's been no snow here in southern England, but I think they've had quite a lot further north. But even though we've not had snow it's still quite cold and wintery here and it gets dark around 4:00pm

In intent the UK Online Safety Act is a good one. It's aim being to restrict childrens access to adult or harmful age-inappropriate content and generally give people more control over the types of content they see. The act also seeks to make social media services, search services etc more responsible for their users’ safety on their platforms by implementing various system to ensure this. Imgur is one of those companies that have decided that rather than do this they'll just block acces to their site to UK users. So it's Imgur blocking the UK not the UK government blocking Imgur. It's sort of like manufacturers not being able to sell their cars or electrical devices etc in the UK/EU unless they meet the UK/EU standards.

It's very annoying! It's a result of the implementation of the UK's Online Safety Act (2023). Imgur have decided not to comply with the requirements of the Act. Which is a law designed to make the internet safer for children and adults by placing new duties on social media companies, search engines, and other online services. Key provisions include requiring these companies to protect users from illegal content, remove illegal activity, and prevent children from accessing harmful material like pornography, self-harm content, and cyberbullying. So UK users can no longer use Imgur to upload pictures and any pictures uploaded to webforums etc by users outside the UK using Imgur cannot be seen by UK users and such uploads will be replaced by a graphic saying "Content not available in your region". It alsom means that anyone in the UK who has an Imgur account can no longer access it.
