  1. Welcome to the place where people like to talk about anime. Pull up a cushion, or a chair if sitting on the floor isn't your thing, and make yourself at home. I'm sure you'll find plenty of stuff to interest you here.
  2. The Yachtsmen Were Easy Going. SOTGQ
  3. Here's a few more to add to the list: The Place Promised in our Early Days. Arrietty. Jose, The Tiger and The Fish. I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Laputa, Castle in the Sky. Voices of a Distant Star. All of which are excellent movies.
  4. Just started watching Anonhana, looks like an interesting series.
  5. 10C, but overcast, dull, wet, cold & miserable. Perfect weather for staying in and watching anime.
  6. Winning the Day on January 1st is a good way to start the New Year. 😄

  7. I've now finished watching Lycoris Recoil. I enjoyed watching the series, but I felt that quite often the dramatic action scenes buried the plot and towards the final episodes I found the plot quite difficult to follow. I also felt that they made the usual mistake in having a 'chief bad guy' who is impossible to kill off. No matter how good a bullet proof vest the someone is wearing if they have a nearly a whole clip of bullets fired into them from sub-machine gun at near point blank range there is no way the guy is going to get up again. Overall I found it a good series, but it suffered from having too big a storyline for a 13 part series.
  8. Congratulations. You are now officially a teenager. So enjoy your teenage years.
  9. It's pretty much the national drink here in the UK and nearly all of us are addicted to it. Very often the first thing we do when things go wrong is make tea. Personally I like ordinary de-caff tea with milk, not too strong and without sugar. A biscuit is also important, preferably a plain chocolate one (but I won't refuse a milk chocolate one).
  10. When you drink a whole bottle of wine before lunch and don't see anything wrong with doing it is the time to worry that you might be coming an alcoholic.

    Windows 10

I like Windows 7 as well and I still have it on my laptop. However, near the end of 2021 my main computer suffered a major system crash and I had to replace the primary hard drive. At that point I decided to move to Windows 10, which I had resisted for a long time. I don't find Windows 10 all that different, but there are a few things that annoy me: 1. The borderless windows. In Windows 7 the program windows had clearly defined boarders which made it easy to see the boundaries of each program's window. With Windows 10's borderless design I find it all too easy to click on the wrong window when I have several open at once, which is annoying. 2. There's no clear distinction between the 'move' bar and the 'menu' bar. In Windows 7 there was a clear indication as to which part of the window to use when you want to reposition a window on the desktop. With Windows 10 I often find that I click on the top of the window and it doesn't move because there's no clear indication of which part of the top bar I should click on, which I find annoying. 3. As usual Microsoft have continued their little game of "hunt the settings dialog" where they move things into different places. 4. In Windows 7 if you are copying/moving a file to another folder and there's already a file by that name in the folder Windows 7 just added a (1) to the copied file. Windows 10 doesn't do this and won't allow you to copy a file into a folder if there is already a file by that name in the folder.
  12. I wish everyone here on AF a Very Happy New Year.

  14. Yes, there's a definite similarity. One of the things I liked about Gunslinger Girl was that some the characters discussed the ethical aspects of what was being done to the girls.
  15. I'm currently watching Lycoris Recoil. I read somewhere that it was a 'Cute girls with guns' series, so as I quite liked Gunslinger Girl and Noir I thought I'd give it a shot..... (Hmm, wrong word perhaps!) So far I'm not quite sure what to make of it, there's certainly a lot of action and I think there's a storyline in there somewhere.
  16. I've now finished watching "Higehiro" and given the controversy that this series stirred up in some places I wasn't really sure what I was going to get. Yoshida, a 26 year old salary man, finds Sayu, a 16 year old girl who has run away from home, sitting in the street near where he lives and promptly takes her in and she then offers to let him 'do her' in payment for a roof over her head... Yep, plenty there to cause upset. But anyone who rejected this series on the basis of the first episode missed an excellent story. From the very start Yoshida rejects Sayu's offer and does nothing to her except to care for her and provide her with a safe and secure place to stay. As the story progresses Sayu tells why she ran away and slowly gains the courage to return home.
  17. Training dragons is notoriously difficult. It's also impossible to get buildings insurance because of the fire risk.
  18. Currently watching Higehiro. I've wanted to watch this because when it came out there was a lot of controversy about its storyline with several YouTubers complaining about it and saying it was all wrong. I've seen the first six episodes now and while questions could be asked about the initial story idea I've seen more questionable storylines in other series that no one has kicked up a fuss about.
