Just started on Aria: The Origination. The slow peaceful relaxed pace of this wonderful slice of life show makes a nice change to the action packed, and sometimes sad, series I've watched recently.

This morning the sun is shining in a light blue sky which has a few fluffy white clouds in it. Thankfully the oppressive heat of the past few days that sapped most of my energy has gone and it's a bit cooler so I can get a decent nights sleep.

I've often thought that it would be great to be able to create my own manga or anime, but sadly I have no artistic ability whatsoever and anything I attempt to draw ends up looking nothing like what I was trying to draw. Some anime DVD's have "making of" documentaries included as extras and I always find these to be interesting, but one thing comes across clearly in all of them, and that is that making an anime series takes many many hours and is very hard work.

I've now moved on to Aria: The Natural and am enjoying the slow peaceful pace of the series.

Your school library has manga? When I was at school the library only had encyclopedias, history books, text books and similar research and reference books. When I attended college on a day-release scheme from work the library there had a decent collection of Sc-Fi novels, but no graphic novels, comics or similar reading matter. Come to think of it, the only thing I gained from attending college was a love of reading Sci-Fi. I totally failed the exams I took, which wasn't a surprise as I was only there for six months and missed the first half of the courses. After that I was too old for the day-release scheme.

Fall, or autumn as we crazy Brits call it, is a nice time of year but it does herald the coming of winter which is a season I don't like because it's cold and I don't like cold weather.

Now watching Aria: The Animation. A really nice relaxing unhurried series with some endearing characters.

We've had some serious rain this afternoon. Of course it didn't start until I'd reached the bottom of the High Street and had to walk all the way home in the rain. I didn't think I could get that soaked in just 600 yards.

It's still quite warm, but the serious heat of the past few days is no more. There's even a very light drizzle of rain, which is very welcome after such a long hot spell. Actually, we could do with a few days of light rain to soften up the parched earth because if we get a lot of rain all at once it won't be able to soak into the ground and we'll have some serious flooding.

Tell me about it! When I was at school the six week summer holiday seemed to last forever. Now six weeks just fly by. And you think you've got worries. I retired 5 years ago and it seems like only yesterday*. Now I'm just days away from turning 70 * Only Yesterday, hmm a good title for a film.

Not just August is flying by. It was two years ago in August 2020 the first covid lockdown was lifted in the UK. Where have those two years gone??

So, this evening I watched "I want to Eat your Pancreas" I knew it wasn't going have a happy ending, no film that starts with a main character's funeral has a happy ending. But I didn't expect the ending to be that devastatingly sad. The more I think about it, the more I realise just how cruel the ending is. This film should come with a warning that it will break your heart and that you will need a handkerchief or two by the end of it. I think the last anime I cried over was "Your Lie in April", but in some ways "I want to Eat your Pancreas" is much sadder. Anime's ability to reach into your heart is one of the reasons why I like watching it so much.

I watched "Josee, The Tiger and the Fish" while I had my lunch today. I knew it was about a girl in a wheelchair meeting a guy who like diving and swimming with fishes, but I didn't know anything else about it. WOW! I was completely blown away by this amazing film and the plot twists near the end caught me completely by surprise. Normally when I watch a film at lunchtime I pause the film when I finish eating and go to the kitchen to make a cup of tea, but this film so held my attention that I kept watching up until the end of the credits. I don't know of many anime films that focus on the problems disabled people face in their daily lives, the only other one I can think of is "A Silent Voice", but I think Josse, The Tiger and the Fish is the better one of the two mainly because the story telling is more concise and the director does a good job in putting across how the characters feel even in scenes without much dialogue.

I'm not one to insult people, I was brought up to respect people and always be polite. But that doesn't mean I'm above making the odd insult or two. I prefer the discrete subtle insults that leave the person not being quite sure if they've been insulted or not, which means they can't come back at me.

Finished K-On. I really enjoy watching this show, five high school girls dedicated to spending their school days eating cake, drinking tea and making music, in that order!
