  1. Honestly, I'm feeling very apprehensive. I'm seriously entertaining the idea of going back to school to get a degree in linguistics, with the hope of becoming a German⇿English translator. Don't know if it's the right move to make at this stage in my life or not. All the time it will take and the cost of it, on top of having to keep working. Plus, my academic record is..... well, let's just say I was not a model student near the end of my time at university years ago, and I'm doubtful the school I'm considering applying to would be all that impressed upon seeing my transcripts.

    It's a lot to think about. 😔

    Ahhh okay cool ^^ ~
I know that feeling though, any convention I go to I already feel like I spent way too much money even after the first day xD

I do the exact same thing whenever I go to a show/expo too. xD This particular show had an exhibition room, but they didn't open it up until Saturday and Sunday of that week. The majority of folks arrived on Thursday and hung out in the smoking tent, and then on Friday the presenters did their seminars and forums. I really liked the way they organized the event like that. It made it a lot easier to keep my spending at bay until later on that weekend. 😅

I'm not really much of a One Piece fan. I tried to get into it and watching something like 30ish episodes and couldn't find the appeal. I see that a lot of people like it but for me it seems like an overrated anime just on my personal experience of not being able to get into it at all and I couldn't find the appeal.

I have a typical rule of staying out of most fandoms these days because ya, fans are toxic in most of them.

I tried to watch it years ago, I think I made it about 12 or 13-ish episodes in, but I just lost interest. There are more episodes in that show than I'll ever be able to see at the snail's pace I watch anime these days. I'm doing good just to get a couple episodes of Inuyasha in when I get home in the evenings before having trouble keeping my eyes open.

And yes, fandom (and just hype in general) has ruined a few things for me (AoT and Chainsaw Man being two of them, perhaps also the majority of the Marvel movies too). I typically lose interest in things that are overly hyped and when people obsessively and constantly fan out over it. Not necessarily saying that being obsessed or passionate about something is a bad thing in and of itself, as long as the person(s) understands that not everybody is into whatever they are, and they know when and who it's appropriate to nerd out over it to and when and who it isn't.

Is this one you got at the show in Chicago or a different place?

No, I got this one a few weeks after I got back. There were quite a number of tables at the show that were selling churchwardens, but I had already spent way too much money by the time I found one I liked. Probably still could have bought one, but I was beginning to feel a little uncomfortable spending anymore at that point. 😭

  5. My first churchwarden pipe. I've always wanted to get one of these long-stemmed pipes, so I finally went looking and found this beauty. Can't wait to fire it up! 🔥💨

  6. It's been a bit since this thread has seen some action, but I'll still chime in anyway.

If I screw up something I'm cooking to the point it's been burnt or tastes very bitter (careful with that garlic, it can get away from you if you let it!), I toss it out while likely using a few choice, colorful words of the English language out of frustration. If it's salvageable, then I'll eat it, of course. Guess it depends on what I'm cooking and how badly certain ingredients get messed up. I've been cooking a little over a couple of decades now, and with the experience I have, I don't typically mess things up as frequently as I used to when I was just starting out. Most of the time, I can pull it off without any issues, although sometimes when I try out a new recipe, I might end up not getting the seasoning right the first couple of times making it, but that's usually an easy fix.

On a separate note, I've really developed an interest in Indian cuisine recently. When I was in Chicago a few weeks ago, I went with a group of folks to an Indian restaurant close to the hotel. I'd never tried Indian food before that, so needless to say, I didn't know anything about the items they had on their menu. Luckily, the group I was with were knowledgeable about it, and they explained what they all were. I decided to try a chettinad goat curry dish, and I'm glad I did because it was delicious! 😋 I wanna try making the chicken version at home soon. Doesn't seem all that difficult to do, just gotta go do a little spice shopping first.

  7. I must've been around 12 or 13 when this happened, but early one morning, my brother was awakened by what he called a "blood-curdling" scream, as if someone was being murdered or something right beside him. At the time, we had our own twin beds and shared a room, and he woke me up saying, "Did you just hear that?! Someone screamed!" Confused, I told him I hadn't heard anything. I remember he was freaked out kinda badly about it. He still remembers that scream to this day. I dunno if there's any kind of rational explanation as to what my brother heard that morning, but thankfully he never heard it again. It's possible he might have been having a bad dream, and maybe he heard what he heard due to that. I've experienced hearing people I've dreamed about talking before, so I don't imagine it's impossible. 🤷‍♂️

Personally, I don't believe in ghosts, spirits, demons or god(s). I've never experienced anything paranormal in my life thus far, only heard stories from others here and there. I guess the closest thing like that for me that happened was maybe being at my home-church at night when I was a kid, when the lights had been turned off because we were about to leave... say what you will, but the atmosphere in a dark church at night is freaking creepy as hell (pun intended). Or at least that old church in my hometown sure was. Although that's not really a paranormal encounter, it's just feeling creeped out in an uncomfortable atmosphere. 😨

Does that classify as a relationship with a robot or rather technology? We have finally arrived at the future?

You’re asking the wrong guy here. I wasn’t exactly curious enough to go ask the owner of that network about it. 🤣

  10. Apprehensively excited... my brother and I both have decided we're ready for a change of pace regarding making a living. So, we're gonna get the necessary steps done to ultimately put our business up on the market and sell it, preferably within the next few months. I feel a little apprehensive about it, probably because I've been in the restaurant biz for almost 10 years. Despite how much I hate it, I've become accustomed to it. But overall, I'm at peace with the decision. It's just time for something new. Don't really know what that 'new' thing will be after this yet (nor do I know how long it will take for the biz to sell), but I'll figure it out as we go.
