  1. I just saw an RTX 5090 selling on newegg for $3700. My WHOLE SYSTEM that I just bought cost "only" $2200.. and I thought I was grossly overspending on that! Who has so much money that they can buy a gfx card for $3700 (balance of system sold separately)?? And are they willing to adopt a 62yo child? OTOH, you do get a "free" x870 motherboard with that. Somewhere, somehow, things went horribly wrong in the PC market.
  2. I just noticed that Angel Next Door is getting another season. The first season was cute and fun. Hope they can keep the same vibe. The first episode looks promising. Farming life sounds familiar. Maybe a year or so ago? If it's the one I'm remembering then I may give the new season a look as well.
  3. I usually wait until the end of the season to binge-watch a show. I do the 3-episode preview early on however and Release that Witch is on my list to return to once it's done. I'm not as enthusiastic about Chinese and Korean shows. I'll watch Japanese-language shows because I understand the language and can watch them in the native language but anything else I either need to turn on subs or wait for an English dub, neither of which is entirely satisfactory to me.
  4. Wait. Why is she wearing brass knuckles in her hair?
  5. Going through the MAL entries for this season. I do have to marvel... "Reborn as a Vending Machine" got a 3rd season??
  6. You might want to look at some of the old videos in that channel too. It occurs to me that your question sounds like the kind of thing he might have made the topic of one of his videos at some point. If you don't find anything then you might even want to suggest the topic to him for a future episode. It would be right in line with the subject matter of his channel after all. (Though I'm sure he currently has more than enough material covering all the shenanigans going on in the ME lately too.) Anyway, hope you find something!
  7. Kyoukai no Kanata / Beyond the Boundary
  8. There was that, "the story to be told is over" at the end of the last one too. A change is to be expected.
  9. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. However, I do follow the youtube "what's going on with shipping" channel. There's a community associated with that channel where someone might be able to give you an answer. Or you might want to contact Sal Mercogliano, the host of the channel, directly with the question. He mentions in his videos that he's on gmail and X (twitter). hth
  10. I just asked an AI about Vogons. It asked me if I wanted to know more about their poetry. I said "no" and closed the window.
  11. Home early from work today.  Gonna take a nap and shift my waking hours to provide DSN support tomorrow for the launch.  My shift is 11:30PM-11:30PM PDT.  First 36 hours are on-site, after that it's 24x7 "on call" until splashdown on the 10th.

  12. That's fine. I'm not saying isekai or fantasy is bad or anything, just not typically my thing. I don't expect everyone (anyone?) to agree with my preference for SF either. I actually did find one of this season's titles possibly interesting in spite of the isekai + fantasy content. "Release that Witch". I'm going to hold off watching the rest until the end of the season so I can binge the whole thing but it passed my early-season 3-episode test. It has a sort of low-key "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" (Twain version) angle that I can hang on to.
  13. Not really. The whole isekai + fantasy thing is way overdone at this point. At least for me. (YMMV) I'm more into science fiction. I'll probably check out some of those but "bookworm" is the only one that jumps out at me as something worth taking special note of.
  14. It's been warm again for long enough that the lizards are back. Heeeerrrrre's Lenny! Doing pushups! (Sorry for the quality. The light was ok but to get the shot without risking scaring them off I was using extreme zoom through a glass window.)
  15. Previewing Release That Witch. Loses points for being an isekai fantasy, but might have potential. I'll come back to it later.
  16. Let Polar Opposites run while doing housework this morning. Light and kinda fun romcom. (HS of course.)
  17. I wish. Work has always been busy and after all the layoffs it got even more busy for the ones who are left. I'm at my vacation time accrual limit because I haven't had much chance to take time off this year! (I did manage to take a week in between xmas and NY.) I'll have to take some time off soon tho 'cause if I bank any more I'll just lose it. If Artemis goes up on time then maybe I'll take a couple days after the splashdown. Not much though because there's a new software release to install ASAP after we get out of configuration freeze, and once we have that deployed we have to start using it for HLS testing with BO and spacex. Getting too old for this shit. Anyway, yeah, I'd love to do the con thing but probably won't due to no time. Not a big fan of long distance travel either, especially these days, but I'm in the Los Angeles suburbs so I do have access to some good-sized cons that happen around here. I've been wanting to try Anime Riverside. Bit of a drive for me but I hear it is fairly large and I've never been to that one. And of course there's the regular Anime Expo (AX) coming up at the LA Convention Center in a couple months. Tends to be packed and a bit expensive but always something interesting there. I guess that's to be expected of "the largest anime convention in N. America".
  18. Welcome! I'm not sure what my first anime was. Like Ohayotaku I'm an old-timer who has been watching anime for a loooong time. For a long time my avatar here was Taurus from Space Angel. That show aired in the early 60s and while it wasn't Japanese it's probably my earliest recollection of an animated TV show along those lines. My earliest recollection of an actual Japan-produced animated show was probably either "Gigantor" (Tetsujin-28) or the Americanized version of "Speed Racer" (マッハGoGoGo) in the 60s. Not sure about dates that far back. I also recall "Star Blazers" (Space Battleship Yamato / 宇宙戦艦ヤマト ) and "Tranzor Z" (Mazinger Z / マジンガーZ) in the mid-80s. There's a few others that I'd recognize but can't recall the names of from back then.
  19. Holy crap!  This looks ... ambitious, to say the least.

  20. Got a "challenge coin" - sometimes called a "unit" or "memorial" coin - and yet another pin for collection. These were for my part in the ECC activation back in January of last year when the "Eaton" fire burned all those houses in Altadena and Pasadena and forced the evacuation and shutdown of JPL, including the realtime tracking and data processing for all the NASA spacecraft and rovers flying at the time. Had to move all that to an emergency data processing facility out at Goldstone, then move things back once the winds and fire allowed the Lab to reopen.
