  1. I suppose I'll cave and answer. Kinda. I don't have a waifu, simply put, however I've chosen Yukine Chris simply for the sake of having an answer when people ask this very question. Because she is pretty cool.
  2. You may get a ton of enjoyment out of the "Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei" series. It's the smartest pure comedy I've seen, nothing else is quite like it AT ALL. As an example, there's a murder in the area, the teacher mentions this to his students and to stay safe, so the comically optimistic student yells out "A murder? Don't be ridiculous! Those only happen on the news or on the radio, something so dangerous couldn't possibly exist so close to home!" And you chuckle. And then realize that's how most people think. This, just ONE of the various OPs, should scream just how eccentric the show is.
  3. huh, well there you have it. I'm used to threads this old having OP be loooooong gone lol. Guess I'll list you some. Tsurezure Children > And if you liked Tsurezure Children, check out Momokuri. It's as though one couple in Tsurezure got a show entirely to themselves. Obviously the two aren't related, but they feel like the same style. ef: a tale of memories (personally, this one was so good, I gave it a 10/10, and knocked most of the other shit on my anime list down by 1. Don't confuse it for its sequel, "ef: a tale of melodies". This sequel is entirely optional as it follows different characters, and I didn't like it as much anyways, so that's a thing) Oouu, just spotted that you were watchin Kotoura-san a while ago. How was it? Well, don't spoil, but I didn't even think it was a romance. Does the romance go anywhere? Does it end nicely? A yes or no works for both of those questions XD anyways, *ehem* Dusk Maiden of Amnesia (goes to the manga ending. The manga however has a single epilogue chapter if you'd be interested in reading that. Should pick up right after where the anime ends.) Tsuki ga Kirei (be sure to watch the credits of the final episode, it's very important. Otherwise, every episode aside from episode 1 and the last episode has an after credits scene where they stick some comedic stuff and side character development so that it didn't clutter the main plot.) Kimi ni Todoke (2 seasons. Incredibly slow, but not uneventful. Very sweet relaxing watch) One Week Friends (minor lie, this isn't actually a romance. Some people consider it one, but I do not. It's MUCH more of a genuine friendship thing, so view it in that light. I've read the manga and it went full romance at the last minute and actually totally fucked it up lol.)
  4. Isn't this thread 3 months dead? e.e
  5. Anime is a form of entertainment to me. I go in to enjoy whatever story is being given to me, and that's about it. I don't deny that some anime have taught me some nifty things, but I never really go into an anime with the intent of learning things, or to escape the real world, anything like that. If I'm going to watch an anime, it's simply because I want to enjoy a story. Also hence why I'm ridiculously harsh on cliffhanger endings. If I'm going into something for a story, I absolutely want the full story lol. In another sense however, I do find a TON of enjoyment in recommending anime to people, and I've been doing this for about 3 or 4 years now ever since I had kinda amassed a good few to choose from when recommending. I'm not overly sure why I enjoy it so much, but perhaps it's as simple as "I'm happy if you enjoy what I enjoyed". So if you ever want shows to watch, I can help ya out lol. Ah, I'll clarify, even though I personally don't explicitly watch anime to escape or anything of the sort, I do understand where people are coming from when they say that they do that. A common trend I see in anime is incredibly bland, generic male main characters, created for the sole purpose of being as boring as possible, just so that people can have a way to overlay themselves onto said character. The less unique traits the character has, the easier this is. TONS of these shows are mode, TONS! And almost none of them have any effort put in, nor do most of them end at all I personally find this all silly, as I said, I'm here for story, and a story with an insanely boring main character and no ending is a story that I seriously don't want to bother checking out, but all that considered, I wouldn't hate a person for doing whatever they want to do, so long as they aren't super narrow minded about it. In my days of recommending, I've met MANY people that will straight-up refuse to watch an anime with a female main character just because they don't believe female MCs can be good enough. That's how bad it gets on occasion (partially due to an awful downwards spiral that occurs where you watch one of the aforementioned anime, and you like it, so you look for more like it, and there's a billion carbon copy clones of this same show, and the person likes that and gets used to it and gets the impression that anime should only be one way), and THAT is something I take an issue with. It's fine to overlay yourself, but man, don't be dumb about it. Anyways, I've begun to ramble. tl;dr I watch for story, if I wind up watching for another reason, yippee, but it'll never be on purpose.
  6. Cool I don't blame you for passing on the gory ones, Blood-C is a rare anime that I recommend without actually having seen it myself. Corpse Party however, I have seen, and I will support that it is REALLY good at doing what it wants to do, and that is be a gore horror. It is exactly what you can expect from a western horror B-film. Lots and lots and lots of blood, with stupid characters dying in ridiculous ways. As brutal as it is, it's a lot of fun if you're in the mood for that sort of thing Regardless, enjoy ^.^ I'll mention that I do much prefer the sub for Ghost Hound. The dub is actually oddly passable, it's just they seem to lack emotion while also conveying all the emotion they need to. It's really hard to describe e.e As a bonus thing to do though, a dark room adds to the experience as well Not as much as the headphones, but it's as thing As for Shiki as well, if you haven't yet, don't read its genre tags. it's teeeechnically a spoiler. Not a big one, and it's fairly obvious where it's heading, but it IS technically a spoiler. My bad for not mentioning that first, I wasn't thinking about it.
  7. Ah, I guess I dug my own grave there lol, woops. I almost never state that Symphogear's cliche story is a downside since it does indeed handle its cliches well, as you say is possible. A thing I normally friggin live by, is "cliches are not bad, poorly used cliches are bad" and I have examples to back up what I say about those if necessary. An example of a bad cliche is just using them lazily because they work. Any harem that uses the generic set of "dere"s like the tsundere for example. That doesn't inherently mean that tsunderes are all bad, nono, but in a lot of harem cases, they genuinely don't go further than "It doesn't mean that I like you!" *blush* *punch* and it does get boring if you've seen your fair share of anime. Oh boy, this has reminded me of an old term I used to describe Symphogear. "Every season is a cookie cutter clone of the last, but god damn did they use an awesome cookie cutter." Anyways, an example of another show that uses cliches well, is My Hero Academia. It's hard to deny that the "world of superheroes" plotline has been done a million times, just not in anime. The MC is a guy that wants to be a hero to save people, that's been done to death too. But he isn't a boring character because of how he grows as a character and realizes things as the plot progresses. it's simple, yet effective.
  8. Don't worry, I find TG boring too lol. Try Ghost Hound as well. Watch it with headphones though, adds to the spooky aspect a TON. You could also try Shiki, it can be genuinely creepy too. If you want a gore horror though, try Corpse Party: Tortured Souls, or Blood-C. I can't say any of them are great story-wise, but oh god, they nail the gore. If you want something that's both a little creepy, and bloody, but not TOO bloody, you could go for Another. As in, it's called "Another". I hate the name. As I mentioned Blood-C up there, I'm obligated to mention Blood+. It's effectively an alternate universe version of Blood-C, with 50 episodes, no gore at all, just some blood, and a MUCH better story. Treat them as separate anime, but choose which one you're more in the mood for.
  9. As someone who has played the game in full, ABSOLUTELY play the game first. By any means necessary. I've been looking into the animation and it seems incredibly lackluster in comparison, watching the anime first would only spoil the plot of the fantastic game.
  10. This is the only part that hurt to read. Well I'd be lying, a lot of sudden rage in this thread hurt to read, but anyways. Of COURE you can have a deep and complex storyline fit into a movie, 2 hours is MORE than enough to do that. Ordinal Scale simply never tried to be deep or complex in any way, shape, or form, but it was also trying to be a serious movie, so this wound up being a massive downfall. Go and watch Paprika. Koe no Katachi. AURA: Koga Maryuin's Last War. Maybe even Patema Inverted, or perhaps Tokyo Godfathers. All of these are examples of movies which were executed incredibly well without being blatantly dumb. ESPECIALLY Paprika. All of them have stories that are more complex than Ordinal Scale's, and if I recall, most of those are actually shorter than Ordinal Scale. I don't want to drag the thread off course however. I agree with the original post basically across the board. Ordinal Scale is every bit as full of asspulls and poor judgment as the previous 2 seasons were. It has an awful habit of wanting to be a super good serious franchise, but almost always fails in trying to do the things that it wants to do to make it good. Yes, "good" is subjective, but I'm referring more to how its written than the actual quality of it. People will always go ape over it because it's SAO. SAO has a large fanbase because "isekai" and OP MC and the average anime watcher eats that shit up like mad. I don't give a flying fuck who does or doesn't like it or not, you can like what you want to like, I cannot, and will not ever try to stop someone from having their own opinion on something like that, but I will also never regard mainline SAO as "good" because of all the terrible decisions it makes because it KNOWS it can get away with it because it has a fantasy setting with an OP edgy MC that gets all the girls. And now I will mention that I am actually genuinely enjoying Alternative Gun Gale Online. It has its themes set, it still has a bit of fun with having a powerful main character, but it isn't sacrificing itself or hiding behind cheap tricks to make said powerful character super ridiculously OP. In fact, if it weren't due to actual tactics, she would have gottem her ass handed to her on multiple occasions. There is absolutely no "running straight at the enemy and killing them with the power of yelling louder than them", there's actual tactics and that already sets it apart fantastically.
  11. I do agree with @the_twig here, "world class" is impossible to define, but we can indeed praise shows for succeeding in doing what they're trying to do. Nobody will unanimously love any single anime, regardless of how popular it is. Time for an example. I personally despise Charlotte for the way it handled its ending, I think it was lazy and destroyed absolutely everything good that the show did up to that point. The show COULD have been absolutely fantastic had it both handled its ending better, and had more time to work with what it was given. A 24 episode runtime would have done wonders, rather than rushing in whatever that ending was. But all that considered, it is still simply my opinion, and I do know that Charlotte is loved by many, @EvilRedDwarfbeing one of them. My favourite anime by a mile is Senki Zesshou Symphogear. But even then, I don't consider it perfect, my MAL score varies from 8-9 season to season. It has a bunch of flaws that drag it down, but despite those flaws, I do think it's one of the best "over-the-top action" series out there, because of how much it holds that aspect to heart and follows through with it, delivering an incredibly fun anime. BUT, the plot is very cliche and whatnot, so even by that alone, it is not perfect. Any individual that doesn't like sheer over-the-top action would despise the show, simple as that. Even though my favourite only hits a 9/10 at max, I do indeed have other shows set at 10/10. I absolutely enjoyed these and appreciate them enough to give them a 10, but they aren't my favourite. My 10/10s however, are not true 10/10s, because as I've said, that's impossible to define. I even give my 10/10s the benefit of the doubt when I give them that score. I know no show will ever be truly perfect and flawless, so if I simply enjoy one enough and it passes enough "thresholds" I suppose, I'll give it a 10. By all means, check my MAL if you're curious: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/awesomedude20 (though as of posting this, MAL is down.)
  12. Ghost Hound is riiiight up your alley.
  13. I suppose it makes me sound like a drug dealer. but for anime. both in illegal forms. *confetti* Cool Action: Senki Zesshou Symphogear (4 seasons of glorious, over the top action. Season 1 is debatable, but oh man, season 2 onwards is worth.) Romance: Gosick Drama: One Week Friends (make sure that you DO NOT watch this as a romance, it's a friendship thing.) Comedy: Ghost Stories (Explicitly the dub, no questions asked. Here's why.) Psychological: Ghost Hound (watch wearing headphones, sound effects are a massive part of the experience.)
  14. Ghost Stories (Luckily for you, you really want the dub. It's hilarious.) Mardock Scramble (great sci-fi movie trilogy) Garo: Honoo no Kokuin (Even though it's only subbed, I will mention Senki Zesshou Symphogear because it is absolutely the best action anime around, and if you can manage the subs, the payoff will be immense)
  15. You sir, would probably enjoy Mardock Scramble. If you want an anime that gets ridiculous enough to literally at one point blow up an entire plane of existence, go for Senki Zesshou Symphogear. It may seem magical girl-ish, but it is actually MUCH more of a sci-fi/action anime.
  16. I'll try not to disappoint feel free to ask me for recs any time btw, before I get that extreme thread going XD
  17. The Anime Dealer Hello! Man, forgot how much I hated this thread name, but I used it once in the past, may as well take a walk down memory lane. I'm very new to this here forum (as of the posting of this thread) but one thing that you do need to know about me, is that I love to recommend anime! Could do it all day, seriously. So while as of right now I'm still seeing if I'll stick around for the long run on this forum, I figured I'd do a little test run for myself. I DO have a much nicer thread thing lined up, and it has proven to be a hit in the past, but it requires a ton of work to get started and I'm just really not feelin' it right now. SO, in it's stead I have made this janky little thing. Basically, I'll probably make the good thread and shut this one down once I'm in the mood to do so, but until then, feel free to hit me up for some anime Oh and uh, my apologies in advance, but I won't be limiting my recommendations specifically to certain streaming sites. As I've just left the (now very much deleted) KissAnime forum, I'm simply very used to everyone having equivalent access to all anime ;D Even if I WERE to limit myself to legal streaming sites, I wouldn't be able to recommend some great anime because they quite literally do not exist legally, with English subs. I hope you get what I mean ;D ANYWAYS, on with the recommendations. I should be checking back kinda frequently.
  18. Oh yeah. Is there a character limit on posts here? I mean. I could see for myself, but that'd be messy, and I'd prefer not to lol.
  19. That's not even the opening theme ;D If you don't like Radiant Force though, that show is absolutely a lost cause for you lol. Though I will say it really doesn't feel like a magical girl show. I mean, it IS, technically, but it does so much shit that magical girl shows don't do I just find it hard to relate them XD No hard feelings of course, I know it isn't for everyone Thanks for the welcome though, I'm a tad confused about some layout things, but hopefully I'll come to get used to it ;D
  20. "10 years" Oh my lol. Well to get you up to speed, here's what the later seasons are like. They even, to an extent, take the "generic" out of the equation simply by being so over-the-top. (shit, does this forum have a spoiler option?) GX Opening Scene
