Watching the Ingenuity (Mars Helicopter) stream instead of studying... with a certain irony since what I'm studying is a prerequisite for the "Satellite Communication Exam" that I could (kinda want to) take in my masters ...

Am I the only one who knows politicians by name by not what they actually look like?

Just realized how much my orthography suffers from writing on the keyboard all the time. Wanted to write "dictionary" by hand and I wrote "dictunary", looked at it, realized it was wrong but couldn't write it correctly for the sake of it. I *had to* type it with a keyboard and look at the keys I pressed until I was sure how to write the word. (and I got it right the first time I typed it with my keyboard)
And I don't even use any kind of auto-correct. I just never write in English by hand...
Also, I become really inpatient when writing by hand, because it's so slow...

I have a similar issue with passwords all the time. I have what I call “finger macros”. My brain tells my fingers.. “type that password.. you know the one you’re always typing? I think it starts with a “b”. Yeah, that one. Just do it. I don’t need to know the details.” After a while I couldn’t tell you the password to save my life, but if I sit down at a keyboard I never have any trouble logging in.

When I look outside rn, I get the impression that the gates of hell have been opened, that's how awful it looks. Might even get a flooding this time in our town, which hasn't happened so far. Also the power might die any second now, sheesh.

2 more episode and I'll crack the 8000 watched episodes of anime. Hmm, maybe a movie as the 8000th episode?... Too many classics to choose from...

Damn, we just went through the Ariana 5 rocket crash of 1996 in my college class since we're learning about fault tolerance, handling etc.
Never want to be the guy who causes a 5 Billion $ crash because of a simple memory overflow.
(Well, I once broke a not so cheap robot in the robotic club during high school, because I thought the sensor data gives me distance values in meters, instead of cm..... Fell right of the edge of the table)

Oof, they allowed some shops to open from today onwards, intending to gradually lift the quarantine and now people are storming DIY markets and building centres.
At least we got this gem. (Turn on the music :D)

We might just open the first non-essential businesses after Easter vacation, so in one week, considering that the infection curve is flattening plus we didn't see a spike in new infections or deaths.
However, these businesses, probably all kinds of shops and hairdressers and such, will have strict hygiene regulations, like people having to wear face masks, staff regularly washing/disinfecting hands, just x amount of people at once in the building, etc...
But everyone who can work from home should work from home, school/uni are still done via the internet (with the exception of the last years, the ones who will graduate.)
We'll see how that goes...

So, in our country we either have to do a 6 month military service or 9 month civil service (either in a nursery home, hospital or as a paramedic) and the ministry has hinted that they might 'draft' people who did the civil service up to 5 years ago again for min. 3 moths of not enough people volunteer. Since I did the civil service as a paramedic 3 years ago I fit into this category.
Now I got a letter from the government urging me to volunteer since 'you country need you!'
However, they mainly need people who worked at nursery homes and hospitals to relief actual nurses and caretakers so I'm safe for now.
Edit: Masks are no mandatory when you go to the supermarket where they'll also be distributed. Apparently the government stored a huge number of them. End April and beginning may, certain stores and services are allowed to open again if they follow certain hygiene restrictions and rules. Bit optimistic, especially since the number of dead has no exceeded 100 (but also seen no growth in death rate), but we'll see.

It's snowing in late march while it almost felt like summer on christmas...
Why tho?
-
Booted windows for the first time in months.
Asks me whenever I open any application, whether I want to update it, had to repair drive C:\ for some reason on start up, slow as hell, and has now been updating win 10 for almost 1 1/2 hrs. Time is incorrect and I have to fix it from my *Linux* which I dualboot. (other solutions on the net didn't work)
I never had the chance to do disable any of that.... Now I remember why I don't use windows, lol.

Here's an interesting video by Khan Academy to explain the maths behind the growth of Viruses and how estimations are made, with Corona as an example.
Well presented and might explain to some people how these "ridiculous" high numbers of estimated infected and future deaths are created, and what people mean when they say that many countries are "lagging behind", i.e. in an earlier stage of the outbreak.
-
So, our government banned all gatherings of more than 5 people; Thankfully my family is only 4 people large so we can still have dinner together
But srsly, many more countries will probably follow this trend, since there's virtually no reason to assume that the virus will spread differently in other places. (Or at least most countries that have at lest some 100+ confirmed cases and/or had their first case a few weeks ago.)
Finally people will learn to understand and appreciate the introvert live-style
On a good note, my friend has been tested negative and more sore throat is gone, lel.
-
Well, friend of mine with who I had a lot of contact at the beginning of the week is getting tested for Corona because some of his relatives have it. If he's tested positive, I'll be under quarantine until the 24th. (not that much would change, though....)
-
yay, my country is probably going into a total lock-down by the end of the week. Though, rationally many more countries, which have infected people by now will eventually reach a similar situation.
Also, started to have a sore throat...

Join the sick club. @Nyxnine has been sick for a week or so. I have been having fever for two days. We are spreading something through Anime Forums

Its true, everyone make sure to disinfect your monitors. I'm starting to feel better though! Mine was a sinus infection. I lucked (?) out and got antibiotics. @Illusion of Terrafluids, sleep, no stress. Need to be passing good advice around hahah
-
@RuthisianCodex Thanks! I don't think it's anything serious. First of all, if kind of gets better and worse by the hour and I didn't really have to cough. Also, I had no contact with a known case or with anyone who come from a risky region like Italy.
@Illusion of Terra If everyone here gets sick, will AF be under quarantine?

Starting to prepare for a trip that I've been planning with two friends for the last month (Surprising, actually, didn't expect to travel this year).
Going to visit Oman in the first week of September (actually the first time that I travel outside of Europe). Looking forward to it, especially the many, many old castles!

@LonelyPoet Well... going to Oman by car probably isn't the best idea XD, but I've heard renting a car in Oman to get around is pretty common since, escpecially in summer, the sun is some kind of deadly lazer, lol.

Kind of had to prepare a presentation about the very very interesting.... Wheastone bridge - wow... but I had to start and finish the first Durarara!! novel, so yeah - going to burn some night oil for this presentation...

After my Windows on my Laptop refusing to work for 1 week straight despite me and experts trying everything I/we could, (Still no idea why windows would never leave the boot menu) I decided to wipe the partition and give it to my trusty Fedora 30...
Loosing all my music, wallpapers, saves and photos I ever took is a hard blow but at least I back-up-ed everything important. (Should have done that with everything though....)

Oh wow, you even bitlocked it. I don't remember what I had used back then. You might want to search for something like "restore data from formatted hard drive" but most probably you will find tools that will try and sell you stuff. But if you have the time, you might give it a try and maybe even find some freeware.
Edit:
A quick search led me to this:
https://www.techradar.com/news/the-best-free-file-recovery-software
(#2 seems promising. #1 seems to overwrite your files so be careful. I had good experience with the company of #3, EaseUS, but that was with their partition tool not with their recovery tool). Most of them have restrictions for the free version though. Be careful when executing them and read everything carefully so you don't wipe your current data -
Yeah - a few years ago I though encrypting it was smart... for some reason I don't even understand myself anymore. Considering that it was wiped, and with it technically the encryption too, I tried to do some Linux magic but so far I had not success. I'll check out what you have posted. Messing with hard drives is usually dangerous, but since I gave the partition that had windows to my Linux I might be able to get some stuff. Thank you!

My Monogatari Box Set finally arrived (yesterday)! Ordered it about one month ago on amazon when the price dropped one month before its release - I sold my older monogatari books to a friend and decided that's worth the money to buy a limited box set (if 5000 can be called limited - technically yes, but...) of my favorite anime franchise. At least the post card is limited, they might release just the box once all the sets are sold. Anyways, now I oficially have anime merch in my home!
