  1. I think the series I recommended in my earlier post are all worth considering. A couple more to add are Card Captor Sakura, Little Witch Academia & R.O.D. tv series And since you mentioned liking Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon, there is a side series called Sword Oratorio.

You also mentioned wanting to explore different genres, so I'll list some of my favorites from different ones:

Action/Adventure: Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, My Hero Academia, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Ushio & Tora

    Fantasy: Magic Knight Rayearth

Science Fiction: Planet With, Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers) 2199 & 2202, Steins Gate, Noein

    Mystery: Beautiful Bones

    Supernatural: Mushishi

Horror: Shiki, Higurashi (When they Cry)

Psychological: Paranoia Agent, Monster (if you can find it anywhere)

RomCom: Recovery of an MMO Junkie, ReLife

Comedy/Slice of Life: Azumanga Daioh, Yuru Camp, Louie the Rune Soldier, Konosuba

Weird/Surreal: FLCL, Penguin Drum, Flip Flappers

  2. While seasons 1 & 2 had their flaws, they seemed to do a better job of balancing things out so that each episode had at least something going for it. The pattern for season 3, however, seems to be stretches of "meh" episodes that are capped off some with pretty awesome ones as the arcs conclude.

I've seen several people complain about "filler" this season, but I've found that filler episodes can actually be quite entertaining when done right. Case in point, the special episode from a couple weeks ago was pretty funny IMO and helps to set up the movie (which I'm going to see at the theater in a couple weeks 😁)

Heyo, I am new here and I am looking for some recommendations of anime (preferably less ecchi) with fantastic concepts and characters.

Here's some that meet that criteria IMO

A Place Further than the Universe (CrunchyRoll)

    Figure 17 (Tubitv)

    Scrapped Princess (CrunchyRoll)

    Land of the Lustrous (Amazon/HiDive)

    Princess Tutu (Hulu/HiDive)

    Kobato (HiDive)

Like Beocat said, if you can give us more information on your preferences and previous experience with anime people can give you more targeted suggestions

  4. So what are some of your favorite quotes? Can be anything: Philosophy , song lyrics, tv, movie, literature. Serious or tongue in cheek. Insightful or cliche.  Feel free to elaborate on what it means to you ... or not :P

    A couple of mine

"It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got" -- Sheryl Crow

"I understand about indecision, but I don't care if I get behind. People livin' in competition, all I want is to have my peace of mind" -- Boston

I wind up editing my posts WAY more than I probably should.  It just seems every time I re-read what I typed it doesn't sound right or I think of a better way of wording it. I also have a tendency to use clips/images to illustrate things (a picture is worth a thousand words).

I guess my awkwardness in expressing myself doesn't just apply to speaking :P

Me, I prefer the classics like Harlock ^_^  He's probably my favorite.  His outfit changes over the course of the series but to me he's the classic Space Pirate

I haven’t had much experience with Harlock, which is surprising since my first exposure to anime were Star Blazers & Galaxy Expres 999 movie. I’ve seen the Endless  Odyssey series and the “Wild West” reimagining Gun Frontier. I bought the tv series collection from Discotek, but haven”t gotten around to watching it yet.

  7. If something is purely CGI and done WELL, I don't usually have a problem with it. Where I have issues with CGI is

    1) when they try to blend CGI characters with more traditional ones, because they almost always clash (a perfect recent example are the bears in Golden Kamuy)

    EAHXPty.gif

    2) when the purpose of CGI is to look more "realistic". One of the advantages of animation over live action IMO is the use of UNREALISTIC character or baclground designs to influence the tone or mood of the show

  8. The only anime I've ever streamed through "unlicensed channels" has been OVAs/Specials for series I watched on CR (My Hero Academia, Konosuba & Yuru Camp) I really can't see myself using a pirate service with any regularity (if they're able to rationalize not complying with licensing regulations, how can I reasonably expect them to respect the privacy & security of any information they might gather on me?). Though I can certainly understand the frustration of when, what & where gets licensed.

  9. When I commented on another forum site that I didn't enjoy Squid Girl, someone commented that it was the only time he had ever heard anyone say that. I just didn't see anything really special about it and all the "squid speak" was annoying to me. Of course I've been told that's something that was added when they translated it into english.

  10. Planet With - continues to be the best series of the Summer 2018 season IMO

My Hero Academia season 3 - after wrapping up the rather weak licensing exam arc, saturday's ep set the stage for a return to greatness, starting with a confrontation that's been brewing since episode 1

Asobi Asobase - it's "comedy" is absurdist & frequently vulgar marked by jarring contrasts in artistic style. And I almost always have to hit pause at least once per episode because I'm laughing so hard I feel like I'm about to pass out . Of course the conclusion of each episode is followed by a rather awkward period of soul searching as I try to come to terms with what the fact that I find this funny says about me as a person.

Gegege no Kitaro (2018) - no new episode this week. As happy as I am that it's getting a continuation with a new arc in the fall season, I really hope they spend the last couple episodes giving some sort of resolution to that creepy youkai that's been stalking Mana & stirring up trouble since the first ep (no, not Ratman, I'm talking about Nanshi (Nameless))

A Certain Magical Index - figured I would give this series another try (I made it to episode 6 a couple years ago) since it's getting another season coming up. Really not feeling it though and will probably drop again.

As far as Avatar goes...the end romance of Korra came out of nowhere and made no sense.  It really felt like pandering to a certain demographic (or trying to prove that they are progressive?  Who knows.).

    Strongly agree

As far as some of my own:

Little kid Goku (before Z) was funny, but adult Goku is a derp

Louie the Rune Soldier was funnier than Slayers

    .Hack//sign is better than SAO

I actually like the OP song to Attack on Titan season 3

Cowboy Bebop ended the way it needed to & doesn't need a sequel

    SPIKE IS DEAD

And Spike/Faye would NOT be a good couple

I don't hate Ichigo from Darling in the Franxx & best girl was Ikuno (posting pictures because otherwise no one will even know who I'm talking about)

  12. For Romance, Adventure, Magic  maybe try Witchcraft Works , The Ancient Magus Bride, Pretear and Princess Tutu

Maoyu is fantasy/romance. I suppose Kobato would qualify as well though it's set in the present day

ReLife (the OVA in particular) is highschool romance with an interesting twist to it

  13. I was pretty big into Marvel comics from the late 70’s through the 90’s, primarily the Spider-Man & X-men related titles. I remember the first appearance of characters like Cloak & Dagger and Hobgoblin, Apocalypse, Deadpool & Cable. And storylines like Days of Future Past, Kraven’s Last Hunt,  Secret Wars & Infinity Gauntlet.

I never really got into DC comics though I liked Batman the Animated series.

The only alternative title I was really into was Wendy & Richard Pini’s Elfquest.

For  me, comics largely fell by the wayside once I started collecting anime tapes/discs in the mid/late 90’s (simply a matter of free time & money, especially with video games also in the mix).

  14. Gegege no Kitaro  - focuses on yokai. The stories usually have a “lesson” behind them & there are some horrr elements, but there is a lot of comedy as well  and most characters are cartoonish in appearance.

Princess Resurection is a supernatural harem series that pays homage to a lot of horror movie tropes.

Rosario Vampire is an ecchi harem series with various monsters.

And Karin (aka Chibi Vampire) is a cute romcom with a family of vampires.

Finally, I’d like to add my approval to Interviews with Monster Girls & Flying Witch

As you can see, I was mostly into RPGs, but I also enjoy Capcom fighters (Street Fighter, Dark Stalkers, Marvel) and a lot of the classic 2D platformers (Mario & Sonic). Also the Castlevania games.

Most of what I play anymore are on my DS, though I'm thinking of getting a Switch.

I still have most of my old systems: Genesis/Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, Game Cube, PS1 & 2, XBox 360 (I loaned my SNES to my sister when she went off to college & it went MIA)
