I thought this about how much you can lift in real life. Though I have 35 pound dumbbells.  The guys look like they are from Baki the grappler

Just found out this series is actually by the same mangaka as Kengan Ashura & is supposed to take place in the same world. Totally different style of show though :P .  Kure-sensei is the mother of one of Kengan Ashura’s characters

  2. So far they’ve kinda portrayed Arthur as an idiot with a Don Quixote complex (considers himself to be a knight). I think the series has definite potential if they would do some world building and be more coherent with the narrative. But right now it seems more concerned with action sequences and looking cool. Also seems like they feel the need to include some fanservice every  ep  even when it feels out of place, which I’ve seen sone people complain about.

  3. As long as you watched the first season of Danmachi you should be fine without Orartorio. I hadn’t made any further progress since my last post , so I’m behind. First arc was a mixed bag for me. Liked the set up for it and the side story involving Lili, but the resolution of the Wargame could’ve been better IMO. Next arc sounds like it could be ecchi as Bell gets abducted by an amazon familia (gee, poor guy 🥰)

Kipling was my first thought as well.  :)

Sorry to go off topic but ...

While I became aware of it being part of The Jungle Book collection of stories later,  my first exposure was the Chuck Jones animated version when I was a kid. I remember it and The White Seal being much darker than the usual “cartoon”

  5. Welcome to the forums 😁

Only Tavi I’m aware of is Rikki Tikki. Some of my favorite anime can be found on my profile page. I don’t have a problem starting a post, my problem is knowing when to stop (and editing it multiple times 😂

    Hope you enjoy it here.

  6. Finished Cannon Busters on Netflix last night. First impression was I liked the visual style and kinda funny (though with more profanity which is typical where there is an American influence). Story seemed to rely heavily on cliches, but thought it might be decent. Unfortunately, the further I got into it, the clearer it became it was more concerned with looking/acting cool than actually making sense. Also, the emotional moments didn’t have any real impact. And then ends on a “to be continued” note.

Overall rating 5.5/10 (8 for coolness & visual style, 3 for story/character development)

  7. I think what makes it stand out more than anything is how it was a battle of wits. For most people anime is generally characterized by very flashy fight scenes with over the top levels of violence and destruction ( Dragonball Z , Akira  & Fist of the North Star).  So Death Notes more cerebral style makes it stand out. But even though there’s not that much actual “action” it had a very dramatic art style that got your attention spacer.png

  9. Personally Spongebob felt like an attempt to imitate/pay homage to the slapstick cartoons I grew up watching. Adventure Time felt like a pioneer of the random is supposed to equal funny philosophy. Then they tried to attach some sort of continuity/mythos to it with mixed results IMO. Plus it got way too bogged down in trying to be metaphysical. Series like Regular Show & OK KO basically followed the same pattern. I think Steven Universe managed to do a better job at eventually forming a coherent story, but still inferior to your average anime.

  10. Watched the first 3 episodes of Cannon Busters on Netflix.  I believe the series creator is American, but everything else is Japanese & MAL apparently classifying it as anime. Picking up on influences from Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Gun x Sword & Space Dandy. Definitely an improvement over Neo Yokio 😂

After ending on an emotional highpoint last week, this week was a wake up call to cold reality. Though as Seshi said it’s better this way because they’re taking the story too seriously to allow Tanjiro to beat a major baddie at this early stage of his training.

They also continue the pattern of offering some insight into the demons’ motivations which keeps them from being just generic villains. Though this was the first time I didn’t feel the slightest sympathy. Rui’s motives just seemed selfish and he was way too sadistic towards the female members of his “family”. I couldn’t really feel compassion for his “sister” either after seeing her betrayal. The argument being she was just doing what she felt was necessary to survive, but still couldn’t feel sorry for her.

Seshi’s new favorite is more than a little scary 😅 When she opened the cocoon I half expected it to be “Oops, guess I took too long ... oh well, la la la”🤣 Though as a high ranking demon slayer she probably knew she had time and figured he would be safer in there where the demon couldn’t use him as a hostage
