  1. So, I saw the movie last night. I was actually surprised at how much of the source material they were able to incorporate.

Unfortunately, the dialogue, acting & fight choreography was more on par with a Syfy Channel movie than something James Cameron was involved with. I’m just really disappointed that this was the finished product after all the years they talked about it.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my hope now is that maybe some people will be curious enough to check out the manga & we’ll get a proper anime adaption like they’re doing with Boogiepop & Fruits Basket.

  2. Hinomaru Sumo for it's attention to the cultural & ceremonial aspects of the sport, as well as some of the strategy & tactics involved

Gurazeni Money Pitch offered what I considered to be a different POV on being a professional athlete than you would get from an American look at baseball

Gegege no Kitaro for it's exploration of folklore concerning different yokai and some different views on modern vs traditional values

Yuru Camp for it's exploration of actual hiking/camping sites in Japan

Dagashi Kashi for it's exploration of a unique type of traditional store that specializes in cheap candy & treats

Zombieland Saga for referencing actual businesses, events & specialties of Saga prefecture in Japan

EDIT: Almost forgot about Golden Kamuy for it's exploration of Ainu culture

LOL!  You are probably the only other person I've met (albeit met online) that watches the Spanish soaps!  Back in the day when I watched them regularly, I could speak the language...  So much more interesting and dramatic than the American ones.  I always tell people to beware of those little Hispanic grandmas.  They look all nice and vulnerable and weak but...Granny's got a gun in her purse, and she's old enough not to care about jail time to use it!  xD

  4. I don’t actually think Spear Hero is that bad of a guy, he just doesn’t realize he’s being led around by the short-hairs

it’s already been pretty much confirmed that the Princess has been the one stirring up shit up to this point, though her motives remain a mystery

As far as the comparison to other series, I get what you say but whenever someone asks for recommendations or “would I like it”,  I find it beneficial to offer some sort of point of reference (though if they haven’t seen those series either it’s a moot point :p). Of course every series has it own nuances and style even within the same genre (and sometimes across the form of presentation, I.e. light novels vs anime version).

Anyway, am I enjoying the series? Yup, though the degree can vary from week to week. And I’m definitely curious to see how things develop.

  5. I just finished episode 6. If you're expecting the edgy anti-hero promoted by fans of of light novels, you'd probably be dissapointed by the past couple eps. Personally, I don't mind it having more in common with How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord than Goblin Slayer. Though there are definitely indication of a larger more serious story as well. And how many eps do you think it will be before we find out that Spear Hero's miracle crop

And on a side note, Filo's seiyu is the same as Millim from Reincarncated as a Slime

  6. Welcome, Cypher. Hope you enjoy these forums as much as I do.

Romance anime aren’t usually my thing but I enjoyed ReLIFE & Recoveryof an MMO Junkie recently.  Kobato too

For Space Operas, you might like Banner of the Stars if you haven’t seen it yet.

Hi Cypher nice to meet you.

Soap Opera? In anime? Can you give some recommendations? I'm just a bit curious. I know people who might watch a soap opera anime.

Domestic Girlfriend is the closest I can think of

  7. I looked after my nephews this past saturday so my sister and her husband could have their "date night"

Got tickets to an opening night screening of Alita for Wednesday

Barring anything miraculous happening along there, Thursday will just be another weekday

I actually kept waiting for them to do something with Ebina.  Umaru just kept being a brat, and her brother just kept letting her get away with it.  Ebina's was the only character that seemed to have potential.  Unfortunately that was never developed either.  If there's a second season maybe I'll try that.  It wasn't a bad anime.  It just didn't seem to want to go anywhere.

Apparently Ebina was popular enough to get her own spin-off manga, though it only lasted two volumes. Don't know anything about it personally. https://myanimelist.net/manga/95652/Akita_Imokko_Ebina-chan

From what I recall, the second season focused more on Umara's  developing friendship with the other girls & she spent less time in hamster mode. But at the end of the day not what I would call a great deal of character development. So entertaining but not really special.

Himouto.   Cute slice-of-life.  For the first 3 episodes or so anyway.  After that... nothing really happens.  No character or plot development to speak of.  Could easily have stopped at 3 or 4 episodes and nobody would really be missing anything.  Or maybe one of those short-form, 10 miniute/episode animes.

They actually made a second season. My motivation for sticking around was pretty much Ebina

  10. 2nding Azumanga Daioh which is my all time favorite SoL series. And while they only have 12 or 13 episodes I would also highly recommend Yuru Camp & Flying Witch. Along the same lines is K-on! which has a couple seasons and a movie. And while I have't watched it yet, I've heard very good things about Non-non Biyori which I believe has a couple seasons.

You might want to give Aria a try. It has three seasons (The Animation, The Natural & The Origination). While there is definitely some comedy to it, more than anything it's just a very calm & relaxing series.

I just recently finished Danmachi, and loved it. I am going to be starting DanMachi_Gaiden_-_Sword_Oratoria very soon.

There is a cute little quiz over on Crunchyroll that let's you find out who your Valentine from the series is if you want to give it a try

An elf meganeko ,,, yeah I can live with that 😍

  12. Alita was the first manga I really got into, so I’m definitlely seeing it in theaters. My biggest concern is that they will try to cram in too much material since they went from 3 movies to 1 (merging motorball into the original arc). I know pretty much that it won’t do the source material justice, but I hope they come up with something coherent and Hollywood doesn’t make it too similar to Hunger Games.

They say the movie will be self contained but still leave room for possible future expansion, so wonder if we’ll possibly get a cameo by Desty Nova.
