Another omission I need to correct: Kyoko Honda (Fruits Basket) as a teenager she was not only a delinquent but a gang member (a leader maybe? at the very least she had enough of a reputation to persist as a “legend” even after leaving that lifestyle behind As an adult she was a loving & hardworking single-mother to Tohru after her husband’s death (though she could still get kinda scary if she thought Tohru was in danger). She also would play something of a maternal role to a lonely & isolated Kyo and inspired Uo-chan to get out of the gang lifestyle & have a better relationship with her dad Probably one of the series most emotional moments was that even as she was taking her final breaths she worried that by dying she was leaving her daughter behind to face life alone. Even though we only got to know her in flashbacks, she still made meaningful impacts on the lives of the other characters & on the viewers.

If we’re going to have a thread dedicated to lolis, we need to appreciate the “moms” as well, right? Yor Forger (Spy x Family) pretty much goes without saying, right? She may not be Anya’s biological parent, but best not to make a big deal over that Motoko Izumi (Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie) ok, I’ll be honest, I only watched a couple episodes of this show & she’s not really a central character. But everything about her just felt so kind & nurturing. Miyabi Kagurazaki (Ai Yori Aoshi) again, not a biological mother, but has been Aoi’s caretaker since she was an infant. And seems more concerned about her happiness than Aoi’s actual parents. Marissa Thomas (Harukana Receive) mother of Claire & Emily Thomas and their volleyball coach. Her best feature? abs

The majority of what I did today: changing the oil in the car, cleaning out the gutters & mowing the yard. The gutters in particular are a nuisance. The yard has those trees with seeds like a propeller (maple?). They not only fill up the gutters they will actually start to sprout in the sediment up there (ch-ch-ch-chia ) which clogs things up even worse. I do not do well on a ladder or the roof thanks to meniere’s disease. Wasn’t actually able to make it onto the roof anyway, because my legs are too short (guess I need to be at least 6ft with the ladder I have & I’m only 5’ 6” ). So instead you climb the ladder, clean out what you can reach, climb back down, move the ladder, climb back up, repeat. Some spots I couldn’t reach, but hopefully will hold out till I hire someone in the fall. At least I earned feeling tired today

So something like this? As for myself, need to try to go to sleep at a reasonable hour because I have a lot I’d like to accomplish tomorrow.

<shrugs> Maybe hardcore Sailor Moon fans have different standards than casual ones. I can only speak for myself, which I did I have enough appreciation for the original series that I actually do intend to check out more of Crystal (someday). But personally when it comes to the magical girl genre, Magic Knight Rayearth is probably my fave, followed by Cardcaptor Sakura, Princess Tutu & Madoka Magica.

Looks like the 2nd ep of the Ancient Magus Bride wild hunt OVA finally went up on CR. I know what I’ll be watching when I get off work this evening.

I’ll warn you in advance that the opening scene is a pretty disturbing attempted rape followed by the baddies meeting a deservedly bloody end. While it’s not the only dark moment since the the villains typically resort to kidnapping & slavery, it’s the most disturbing moment & probably put a lot of viewers off. The tone afterward is generally more tongue in cheek. Despite being OP, the MC is good-natured, but also something of a fanboy/dork when it comes to fantasy tropes. And there actually is a bit of intrigue in the larger story. I’m enjoying it quite a bit overall. Here’s the anime version of the OP to give you an idea of the overall tone

The latest additions to my summer wardrobe (i.e. t-shirts )

Adventures of the Mini-Goddess a series of short episodes featuring chibi/smol versions of Ah, My Goddess characters. Consists of parodies of various movies/tv shows/ celebrities, educational topics including the history of airplanes, trains & space travel, and instrumental mood (no spoken dialogue) episodes. Unlike the main series, Urd is the character must often in the spotlight (Belldandy being relegated to the role of lovable airhead). Keichi is mentioned & can sometimes be heard off-camera, but never actually appears. The central male character being a talking rat called Gan-chan who is usually the straight-man/victim of the other characters’ antics The hiccups episode is a personal favorite

Not sure if this will catch on, but figured I would give it a try The idea is to give an unusual word or expression & then it’s definition/meaning (maybe a joke meaning as well if you feel like it ) By unusual it can be something that’s outdated, regional, occupational or maybe just sounds weird. To start things off: catty-corner definition: diagonal to. slanted. joke definition: where you put your pet feline when it misbehaves
