  1. The currently airing Deca Dence might work (make sure to at least watch through the 2nd ep before deciding, because there is a pretty major shift) Some other suggestions: Promare (movie) BNA (Brand New Animal) Planet With Fire Force Soul Eater Needless Mob Psycho 100 FLCL
  2. A couple members here are watching it & commenting on it in a topic under the Currently Airing Anime heading. If you catch up before the season is over, feel free to join us, or leave your thoughts afterwards. We’re not using spoiler tags though, so probably want to wait till you’re current. https://animeforums.net/topic/6026-thoughts-on-the-latest-episode-of-fruits-basket/
  3. Kaburagi: Is fun necessary In life? Natsume: Of course it is! If you lose all of life’s pleasures, then even if you’re alive, you’re not living - - Deca Dence episode 7
  4. Dropped after episode 4, highly unlikely I’ll give it a 2nd look Ditto, though I’ll be seriously ticked off if the male lead hasn’t matured significantly by the end.
  5. @NeonKettle glad your enjoying Re:Zero, I’m currently watching season 2 & it’s the only thing putting up a serious fight against Fruit’s Basket for my AOTY. Some people wind up not liking Subaru. Without being too spoilery, his response to some situations is far from heroic. But to me, that’s what makes it better than the majority of the other isekai. The idea that someone with psychological & social issues that make it hard to cope irl gets transported to another world & suddenly becomes a hero is ridiculous. Yes, when he gets knocked down he needs someone to help him back up (and sometimes to drag him a ways ) But he invariably finds the resolve to keep going, even when it seems he’s in danger of becoming irreparably damaged.
  6. Happy Birthday @Anime loveer
  7. “You’re not the one who’s crazy, I’m just floored by my own stupidity. I’m so exasperated with myself, I have to laugh” - Natsuki Subaru (ReZero season 2)
  8. Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here I also had a period when I didn’t watch much anime despite despite loving Star Blazers & Robotech. But when streaming became the preferred medium I was out of luck because of poor internet service. That changed in recent years & I probably watch more than I should now When it comes to seinen I highly recommend Vinland Saga.
  9. You are correct, in my case anyway. I’d watched the original anime adaption decades ago, but it honestly didn’t make much of an impression on me. Not sure how much the difference now is because this version is so much better or because I’m in a very different place in my life than I was back then. To me they actually felt quite a bit different (both the song & the video) from the previous OP/EDs, but I have come to appreciate them . In some way it really seems to signify that this cour is a turning point in what’s to come
  10. This week didn’t feel as heavy as Rin’s episodes, but still had a lot of emotional & psychological content to analyze. We finally find out the connection between Kakeru & Machi and how the different ways they handle their family issues ties into their different personalities. Kakeru responds by “laughing it off” with over the top behavior. While Machi internalizes it until it comes out as outbursts of frustration. I fully anticipated the traumatic flashback Yuki had locked in the closet, but the fact that he didn’t have a full blown panic attack shows he’s gotten stronger. Maybe just me over reaching, but can’t help but see some foreshadowing in Machi being the one to break the door down. More & more think these two could wind up a couple. It’s also nice that he’s starting to lighten up more & there’s even some early signs of things improving with his mom. The casting for the school play is hilarious, have to think their classmates are having some fun at their expense. Tohru being cast as The Wicked Stepsister & her promising to be “more evil than the devil” made me laugh until I couldn’t see I really hope we get to see it in it’s entirety, not just vignettes.
  11. Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here Can definitely relate to your comments about being an “old soul” & not really having irl friends that are into anime. Fortunately members here are really nice & I’ve been hanging around here almost 2 years now. Serious romances or dramas aren’t genres I’ve really spent a whole lot of time on, but really love the currently airing Fruits Basket remake. There are a couple of us watching & commenting on it here so I would highly recommend it. I’d also recommend Science Fell in Love, so I Tried to Prove It & Recovery of an MMO Junkie as examples of short but enjoyable romcoms. I tend to enjoy exploring lots of different genres, but my favorites tend to be Fantasy & Supernatural. Anyway, glad you found your way here & hope you stick around.
  12. @efaardvark I generally feel that a single cour (12 - 13 episodes) isn’t really enough time to tell a well developed story without it feeling incomplete or rushed. The 24 - 26 episode range seems to work pretty well. But after 100+ episodes, a series usually has to be pretty special to not feel repetitive or too reliant on filler. Of course those are just generalizations. If they ever made a direct sequel to Cowboy Bebop, I doubt I would even watch it. To me the way it ended was what made a lasting impression on me. And I’ve mentioned it before, but I still hope that the fact that the Battle Angel Alita live action movie seems to have some fans will lead to a more comprehensive anime adaption of the manga than that 2 episode OVA series from way back when, since it was one of the few manga I really got into.
  13. Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here (we can always use more creative members). Unfortunately I fall within the ranks of the artistically ungifted, but our paths might still cross
  14. Dying? No, though we may be headed for another shake up like back in the late 90’s/early 2000s. As someone who has been watching anime in some format or another for approximately 40 years, I see nothing on the horizon to make me think otherwise.
  15. Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here As far as recommendations: Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba), Ushio & Tora, Soul Eater, Fire Force.
  16. So what are some anime series you wish there was more of (another season, Movie, OVA)? Not really talking about cases where more is on the way & we’re just waiting (The Promised Neverland, Rising of the Shield Hero, etc.) But ones where there has been no official word on a continuation & some time had passed) Some of mine: Vinland Saga Beautiful Bones (Sakurako’s Investigation) Land of the Lustrous The Ones Within Dorohedoro Overlord and some guilty pleasures (Princess Resurrection & Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero)
  17. Haibane Renmei or Kino’s Journey (prefer the older version myself). Maybe Serial Experiments Lain too.
  18. Honestly not a fan of Miley, but kinda like the sound of this one (reminds me of Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac)
  19. The 2 episode training exercise special is up on CR & Funi. While it’s nice to break up the wait for season 5, I felt like it was actually pretty meh. Part of the problem is it devoted too much attention to trying to make Bakugo seem cool. Heroes Rising did a passable job of it, but here he’s just his usual one-note pain-in -the-ass self. Was hoping they would also make 2 of the earlier special episodes available, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s a shame, because even though they were shorter, they were more entertaining IMO.
  20. Other than the weekly airing stuff, been checking out some Netflix anime. Finished War for Cybertron: Siege & started Drifting Dragons & Zoids Wild.
  21. Also a PSA on the importance of everyone wearing a mask That rock formation Tamaki freaked out over made me think that weird looking moon from Soul Eater got blown up Not sure if it actually means anything or if it’s just an Easter Egg since both series are written by the same guy. Tamaki actually managed to not lose her clothes or get groped this week & put some doggies to rest so it’s a start. Also glad the new kid got a pretty cool action sequence. This week had a different feel from previous episodes. More comedic but also surreal with the talking animals. The preview definitely has me curious for next week.
  22. “People aren’t machines. We do lots of things that don’t make sense.” - Kosame (Appare Ranman)
  23. Not sure how I forgot about Isaac & Miria from Baccano. Thanks to @NeonKettle for reminding me.
