  1. Horror doesn't work in anime because of the art. It's too cute, vibrant, smooth. You need to rough it up to be scary. Manga does horror better

The only anime I’ve ever actually found to be scary for me was Shiki

probably because it reminded me of the original Salem’s Lot miniseries  that gave me nightmares when I was a kid (1979)

  2. Protagonist and main character are not the same. An MC is just your readers / watchers view while a protag is the actual hero of the story

  3. For some reason I thought Detective Kobayashi was an anime. And that it had a visual novel. Maybe I was thinking of a different show

  4. "A synopsis is a brief description of a story. Plot refers to the sequence of events which transpire in your story"

  5. My thesis project in college also inspired my mystery visual novel. The idea of a group of friends, in a classroom, working towards something

  6. Decided to spend Christmas playing Persona 3 all day. Been awhile since I played games. Merry Christmas to you and your family

I did. I now see why Persona is so popular

  7. Hardy Boys and The Famous Five are what inspired me to make a murder-mystery visual novel. I read them as a kid in the school library

  8. I'm making a detective murder-mystery serial killer visual novel

  9. The execution is more vital than the idea. The best anime don't have the most original ideas. They're just done really well. Execution beats ideas

Generally this is true, however poor quality artwork and animation won't save a series even if it does have an original story.

  10. I have a patron who's been giving $1/month for 7 years even after my anime site closed 4 years ago. I emailed him to stop but he didn't reply 😐

One possibility for him not replying is that he's changed his e-mail address, 7 years ago he may have been still in school and had what he thought then was a 'cool' e-mail address but when he left school and entered the big world of work he realised that his 'cool' address didn't look quite as cool  on a job application or CV so he got himself a new one. A couple of my younger friends have done this.

Another possibility is that he either doesn't check his bank statements very carefully or he doesn't have time to visit your site any more and thinks it is still running and is happy to continue to contribute to it.

How you stop the payments is quite a problem because if he's set up a regular payment to you with his bank only he can stop the payments.

Yeah that's true. He definitely moved on.

I emailed him a few times so my conscience is clean.

It's only $1 monthly so he probably shrugs it off as some fee for something.

  11. Anyone knows how to clean a sticky mouse? I already tried microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol.

      @Ryan Dave Jimenez

What kind of mechanism is it?  I’m a fan of optical mice or trackballs.
If it is an optical ball mechanism then there will likely be 3 little nubs in the ball cavity that need to be cleaned as well.  I usually use a cotton swab to dislodge the gunk that accumulates around the nubs and makes the ball stick.  Alcohol optional.

Try not to get anything on the laser/sensor window.  If that gets fogged or blurred/smudged by debris then it can cause the ball to mis-track as well.  I once made the mistake of “cleaning” the window on my trackball mouse with a swab contaminated by the nub gunk.  I wound up smudging it instead and it took a bit of work to clean it enough for it to track well again.  The window is usually hidden behind the ball and well protected from dust etc. so usually I leave it alone.  99 times out if 100 just cleaning the ball with a cloth and the nubs with a swab (or even just your finger) is all it takes.

  12. One last background and I can launch the demo for my serial-killer mystery visual novel. So excited!

  13. Visual novel backgrounds are weird. They take a long time to make. But players only look at them for seconds.

Yeah, you're right. Gamers are immediately tuned to anything that helps them win the game faster.

  14. My visual novel was inspired by Telltale's The Walking Dead. Specifically the story and character relationships. And It's basically a 3D visual novel anyways. 😄

  15. I'm looking for visual novel testers. People who are fans of detective murder-mysteries set in a highschool. PM me or comment below. Thank you so much!

  16. Finished with the plot for my murder-mystery serial killer visual novel. Not done with writing though as I have to finish the plot for my webtoon now. Working on multiple projects isn't usually recommended but it is darn fun.

  17. Started watching mystery videos on You Tube. I need some ideas so I can come up with a good mystery story. Unfortunately, I also came across some creepy real-life mysteries.... 😬

Oh man, I am also trying to write a mystery book. I would recommend watching some mystery anime to inspire, currently I am trying to find some good ones for myself I haven't already seen but Higurashi is imo the greatest mystery anime ever; you should watch that if you haven't already, it's sure to get the creative juices pumping.

I want my mystery book to be based around the historical Unit 731. Some real disturbing stuff. Anyway, gl.

You're writing a book? How many pages is it gonna be? That's way harder. Mine is only a story for a visual novel.

But yeah I've started consuming some mystery media for a week now. I now have nightmares. 😆

Oh, I'm writing like 8 books. A lot I know, lol. I've written multiple chapters for some and only outlines for others but I aim for 150 pages minimum on every book I write. If they end up multiple hundreds of pages that's fine by me but no less than 150.
