@The History Kid I think that's true for the staunch anti-vaccine people who are convinced that vaccines cause autism. some people like some flat earthers would probably not be convinced even if they would fly out to space and see earth themselves.

But maybe those who just didn't bother vaccinating and are not really anti vaccine might reconsider now. maybe not though, but I'd be interested if someone would make a study on this

After this week's episode I wonder what will happen to Gentle and LaBrava. I didn't quite get the last scene.

The festival was quite alright I think, nothing way over the top but what I expected. I think it was a rather enjoyable few episodes between the more serious ones!

in theory I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. engineering viruses for specific purposes is already possible. parasites such as trematodes who 'remote control' their hosts have been around for millennia as well, for example Dicrocoelium dendriticum who makes ants climb on top of leaves so that they are ingested by sheep in order to spread inside the sheep. there are tons of others, some of which are listed here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behavior-altering_parasite

if you really wanted to you would make sure that the virus multiplies in some organ or part of the body which doesn't have or affect pain receptors, so that people don't notice it, but still are easy to spread, so that as many people as possible get infected without knowing. later stages of the virus or parasite could then lead to the behavior you want. the biggest thing speaking against it right now is that we don't know enough about brain circuits in order to engineer a virus or parasite in a way as to lead people to bite other people (spread through saliva would be quite easy though). it is not difficult to engineer one so as to make people more aggressive (this is the case in rabies for example), but specifically leading them to bite others is something I don't think is possible right now. simply wanting to bite things might be more realistic, but biting other animals or humans specifically is another thing.

So yeah, in theory it seems possible (you could also engineer a virus that only kills certain kinds of people, such as a specific 'race' with a certain genetic code), but I think a more realistic threat would be some kind of AI who coerces people in different ways.

Depending on where you live it is likely that the numbers will now be rising exponentially for quite some time until the growth rate decreases (unless the lock downs and quarantines take effect). I also suspect that generally, unless they find a vaccine, about two-thirds of the population will contract the virus over the next months or years. in many places, including where I live, people are not allowed to go outside except for necessary chores or work, with police and military keeping watch. It is not much different for me though since even before I mostly stayed at home working.
I have mostly stocked up (as I usually do) for a couple of weeks, and even if I contract the virus, which I might already have, I am not concerned for myself since I do not belong to any of the groups who are at a higher risk. I am quite concerned about people like my grandmother however, who have multiple risk factors, because the virus spreads more than the flu and it is more likely that they will contract it.

I am a bit surprised at how self focused people seem to be, although I did not really expect much else when I think about it. there are some people who help out elderly neighbors which I think is great, but toilet paper shelves are still empty, and other things which your average shmoe doesn't need, but people with compromised immune systems, skin diseases etc. are almost impossible to find. I do wish that people would stop buying things that are only useful to people with such conditions, if they themselves don't need them.

@Nyxnine it actually is three. I have driven a car but not legally. the reason is mostly that I live in a city with public transport that is much faster than taking a car through traffic, so I never needed it.

there are too many to choose from  one time I saw an insect or arachnid borrow itself inside my leg. it was quite difficult to get it out because it went quite a bit below the skin, so I had to dig a hole by scratching until I finally got it out. stung quite a bit for a while.

It's not 3. it's 1 although I have to say that it sounds more serious than it is. I technically 'stole' some paste from work for electronic parts that contained trace amounts of gold particles. 'stole' might be an overstatement since they had plenty and someone said I could take some although technically it belonged to the university.

@RuthisianCodex that's quite a serious take on it  not saying you are wrong or anything, I just didn't give it as much thought because the whole la brava gentle criminal thing seemed more as a comedic aspect overall to me. but yeah, there definitely are some things there that are unusual to put it in the best possible way. I don't think they will be playing a major role in the rest of the anime though, which then raises the question of why they would introduce them with such a background
