What is it about?
Vinland Saga is my fav anime, though I haven't read the manga I've heard it follows very closely.
The first season only covers the prologue!!! The manga has to be deep for the first 24 eps to only set the stage.
So far, the anime has been about vikings(this much wont change) - different factions of warring nations and each party has a different goal. There are kings, and mercenaries, princes being targeted for execution, bodyguard roles, training scenes as the young MC grows into a fierce warrior. Family loss, and a lot of real world sadness. But this show is also at the top for me, one who doesn't like to watch dramas.
It's action scenes are amazingly done, the wit of the creator is shown in many ways in this series. Its intriguing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I'd tell anyone to give it a shot. But hopefully you like action and aren't afraid of a little blood.

Not sure if this is even close, but I remember watching this movie around the time Inuyasha was airing

Oh right. Those are all dark fantasy/ shounen or sci fi anime so yeah.. Not really your thing

The ending seemed very confusing to me
The new characters are plotting to kill Nene? And Hanako was smiling about it?? Im guessing his book is a red one

I just finished "The Ramen Girl" on Hulu. Its an older movie starring the late Brittany Murphy. She did really well in this film, but I just like her as an actor anyway. The story was about a girl who had nothing, finding out about herself through her interactions in Japan in particular, at the ramen shop across from her apartment.
The cast is interesting, and the fact that the language barrier is not improved upon is hilarious. The characters are constantly talking without being understood.
Anyway, it was a treat to finish.

I cosplay at conventions. I love having ongoing projects that I can work on on and off. I am happiest when I have things to look forward to and cosplay is perfect because there is a lot to learn and its part of the process of being excited for an upcoming event.
It's really nice portraying my favourite characters and showing off what I love; anime/games, the characters and making things.
Sounds like the best reason to cosplay

I've found it enjoyable enough & certainly interesting. But it can be more than a little unsettling as Ains’ in game persona takes over more & more of his identity threatening to turn him into an actual monster. I understand the LNs are even more graphic in that sense.
I too am finding it unsettling in season 2
where ains is seeking to destroy the lizard men for his army of undead.. I really like the Lizard men, so its very upsetting to think he'd do something so terrible

@RZ. The audiobooks are what I have for Demonwars and they are very well done.

Shameless plug - I'm actually trying to read more fantasy books with heavy worldbuilding so I can improve my own writing for a science/space fantasy series I'm working on.
If you want more inspo, check out the "DemonWars Saga" by RA Salvatore! The world building for this fantasy series is so immersive. By far the most creative I've read so far for this genre.
Also, as a child I remember my brother going on and on about the "Redwall" novel series, and his imagination for writing grew leaps and bounds. This is a childrens fantasy series by Brian Jacques, but Im sure he has more grown up series as well, so maybe you've heard of him.
@The History Kid have you read "The Other America"? Its a good history of the industrial revolution, although I don't believe in the authors socialist views of economy I still enjoyed the read.

I strike the face of folly
Peering not into the future but the past
As I wind down that staircase of regret
I do not glimpse my own true nature

Glad you found something. Hope its interesting!
I'm still watching a lot of currently airing, but have also been watching Overlord! Overlord 2 is next. I love this anime, and I was so skeptical to even start it lol

Some of you may have heard of these poems before, but for me it wasnt until Chihayafuru that I became aquainted with them.
This old poetry is very different from what I am used to reading so its refreshing to go through them.
What are some of your favorites, and your thoughts on them?
Do you mean to say
we must pass life not meeting
even for a time as short
as the segments in the reeds
that grow at Naniwa Bay?
-- Ise
This poem speaks to me well of the sadness that one might feel for the fleeting of time and of missed opportunities (of which I have let slip quite a few).
But things were even harder for the people of this era. In reading these old poems I love that I can be transported to a time that I know relatively nothing about. Read about the secret desires they had for one another that weren't able to be acted upon for so many reasons... The seasons, traveling difficulties, status differences, Its an intriguing topic for me. Im glad these poems are still around for us to read today, to contemplate what things must have been like in another time.

I don’t know if a giant real-life Gundam is considered cosplay, strictly speaking, but this topic looks like it could use a bump.
(Mods please feel free to [re]move as appropriate.)
Yes it totally does count.. But why didnt I think of this
