  1. I was pretty satisfied with season one. I really liked Emma's and Ray's characters, but I might have to have someone explain what exactly was going on during some scenes.

    Spoiler

Something that bothered me about Promised Neverland was Norman's character. It kind of flip-flops a lot, which makes sense because he was trying to deceive Mom, but it didn't make sense to me to try to deceive Ray. I wasn't sure what the point of keeping Ray out of the plan was.

I enjoyed the original Steins Gate series and movie very much. Steins Gate 0, not so much.

I feel like many people share the same sentiment. Did you finish Steins;Gate 0? I have only seen the original, the movie, and some specials.

@Seshi, Ray is my favorite character so far, but I like Emma and Norman too. I'm kind of glad Emma is the protagonist, though.

  4. @Liam Gray Your work so far looks phenomenal! I'm a bit jealous myself since I've always wanted to be a comic/manga artist (or just artist in general) myself. I'd love to check it out sometime. I have a general idea of how hard it is to get your content out there, so I understand your frustration.

As far as I know, Ryan Dave Jimenez is also showing his work here, but he's been around a bit longer and has contributed to the community. I can tell by your post history that you're similar, and not just here to mooch off of the goodwill of our community.

My goal isn't just to sell books but to establish lasting friendships with people like YOU in the Anime/Manga community so your feedback can help keep production sharp. The more eyes on a project, the better I can make it, and as a small-time indie writer.

I am open to all questions and criticisms from the community. Help me make this the best manga you've ever read!

I think AnimeForums is a great place for a tightly-knit, engaging community. We just get spammed with a lot of bots; sorry that you got caught in the filter, too. Like Seshi and XII360 said, I'm sure this will be appropriate in a different section of AnimeForums, like Art, a blogpost, in your signature, or something like that. (I used to advertise my YouTube channel in blogposts and signature and the team seemed to be fine with it.)  I'm willing to work with you and the mod team at AF if you'd like.

I see you mentioned that you have been a student of manga for 30 years. I'd like to ask you some questions myself, if you don't mind.

    • Does that mean you have drawn for 30 years, or
    • Have drawn for longer and have adopted the manga artstyle for 30 years?
    • How often do you draw?
    • How do you stay motivated?
    • What inspires you to draw?
    • What tips would you give for a new artist?

I've asked plenty of people these questions, but I like hearing from different people. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your time on AF and we haven't gotten off on the wrong foot with you. I'd love to read more of XENOTYPE, so feel free to DM it to me if you'd like. (I wouldn't really consider myself an expert on, well, anything, though.) I strongly empathize with your feelings on creating friendships in a community, since places like Reddit don't really encourage that.

As a queer person, I don't like how a lot of our queer media is focused on the struggle of being queer. Everyone has there thing, but you can be queer and live a normal life without major traumatic events related to being queer.

My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness is definitely way more than a story about a gay person that has a hard life because they're gay. I'm not sure how I can convince you other than just telling you outright.

I looked MLEwL up, and I question if it's so acclaimed because it's actually good, or if people are too into the struggle to want to enjoy happy LGBTQ stories. Or, stories with LGBTQ characters that aren't emotional shifted on being LGBTQ at all.

Hmmm, I've made plenty of recommendations on happy LGBTQ stories before, but I don't think the folk around here are into that type of stuff because I'm not sure how interested everyone here is in:

    1. Romance
    2. LGBTQ stories
    3. Happy/low tension stories
    4. Manga

I'd say My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness is/was pretty popular for an LGBTQ manga, but as you can see, it didn't get much traction here. I'm more than happy to provide you with some recommendations below, though.

    Spoiler

Cheerful Amnesia: It's about a happy-go-lucky girl with amnesia trying to piece together her life with her girlfriend. There are some melodramatic moments, but for the most part, it is a wholesome manga.

Kase-san: This manga is about a gardener and an athlete that appreciate each other despite their different lives. There is an anime movie adaptation of this, but I don't think it is very popular. The main character is a ditz if you don't like that type of thing.

Beauty and the Beast Girl: I can't really say much about this story without spoiling it, but it's similar to Kase-san in the way that the two of them lead very different lives yet come to find and appreciate each other. This one is a little bit more dramatic than the rest.

Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid: This manga is the only one to get really popular alongside its anime adaptation, but its mostly a gag manga. I wouldn't really consider it to be an LGBTQ manga, but the main "couple" are two women. The romance is mostly one-sided because of how hard it is for the main character to express her feelings.

Hero-san and Former General-san: It's about a female villain that joins the girl that's opposing her. It's, well, eh. I found it cute, but the romance is one-sided.

Rationalism of Irregularities: I have no idea what to say about this since it has been a while. I remember the main couple being cute.

Of course, most of the above acknowledge that the relationships are unconventional because they are girls, but none of the focus of these manga are "oh, woe is me, my life is so hard because I'm gay." I also acknowledge my lack of... experience in the Shounen Ai area, but that's because no one ever recommends me any.

I think if there's one series to take away from all this, though, I would wholeheartedly recommend Houseki no Kuni (also known as Land of the Lustrous). Although it's not really an LGBTQ anime/manga, it definitely resonates with that community because (spoilers)

    Spoiler

of its distinctive portrayal of gender in the manga and the all-too-familiar feeling of feeling like you're not good enough for society, so you try to change yourself to fit it, only to end up hurting yourself in the process. The Land of the Lustrous community is also probably the best community I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with.

  6. I was going to write something longer but I'll just say this:

    • If this is an optional contest, just drop it if you don't have the time.
    • If this is something you have to do, then you really shouldn't be using someone else's work. Hearing that this is for a contest makes this even worse.

  7. Just bought a ton of games today. Fallout: New Vegas, DOOM 2016, and the entire Bioshock Collection.

I've played Fallout: New Vegas and DOOM 2016 before, but only on a friend's account. I'm looking forward to playing all of these games, since I've been lacking in first person RPGs recently.

And the final scene promises the introduction of transfer students in season 2 ... yeah that’s right 😁 (maybe we’ll get to see Naofumi or Rimuru afterall)

I'd love to see that. It's be hilarious to see how huge this universe can get.

    Spoiler

Tanya was an atheist in her original life, but was transferred to WW1 Alter by Being X in order to increase her faith in God. When Tanya "prays", Being X "blesses" her with tons of magical energy, but Tanya still wants to destroy Being X.

Other notable potential isekai anime are No Game No Life, Sword Art Online, and Log Horizon. This could be its own entire thread, lol.

That sounds fun! There are a few other here enjoying that series right @Kinbaryu and @Ohiotaku

KonoSuba is a pretty fun anime. I'd recommend it as a comedy to anyone who likes fantasy RPG elements. It's got a raunchy sense of humor at times, but the subtle jokes are what get me.

  10. I like anime with layers. No spoilers below.

    Spoiler

(Or as I call it, "coats" of emotions.) Some examples of this are OreGairu and Dragon Maid. Season 1 of OreGairu was mostly a light-hearted slice-of-life comedy, but Season 2 turned the series into a drama of the clashing ideologies of the characters. Dragon Maid on the surface is a Yuri comedy with cute characters, but also says something a little bit deeper about society's taboo, romance, and connections between "humans".

Other examples of this would be Steins;Gate and Re:Zero. Steins;Gate was at first a time-travelling slice-of-life that turned into an intense, high-stakes series. Similarly, Re:Zero has a pretty color palette, bright world, and naive protagonist that clashes with the death, blood, and tears throughout the show.

A more specific genre I like is fantasy. My favorite fantasy anime utilize fantasy elements to represent the inner struggles of the cast, especially in series like the Monogatari Series, Land of the Lustrous, and the Fate series. Spoilers for these three below.

    Spoiler

One of the main plot points of the Monogatari Series isn't that the girls are simply possessed by aberrations; these aberrations are possessing these people because these people are inherently flawed. The very first girl, Senjougahara, is possessed by a crab because of her rejection of her past. Similarly, Hanekawa is possessed by a cat that does harm upon others. However, deep down, Hanekawa also wants to harm those people.

Phosphophyllite from Land of the Lustrous begins as a weak, yet energetic and human character that desires to become more useful. As the series progresses, she loses her humanity, becoming stronger and more insane as the show goes on. She does become more useful, but at a huge cost that has mentally destroyed her.

Magic in Fate is extremely useful, but is also something to be feared. When you learn magic, you put your body at risk. Families are torn apart because of magic, and the children are the ones who have to pay the price.

Ive watched slice of life animes before, some of them just did nothing but talk and walk around the whole time. I mean you could just use real life people and do the same thing, what is different about that? It doesn't feel like animating people just talking and walking around really adds anything. You can do the same thing with people. What does animating it add?

Well I think that depends upon the anime. I haven't seen too much slice-of-life anime myself, but anime like Dragon Maid are definitely worth checking out. You can't really film a live-action version of that. Also, typically these slice-of-life anime are drawn to be cute or funny, which is another element that'd hard to capture purely through live-action, since humor is a little different in live-action media.

  11. I would say Black Clover is pretty close. It's a similar shonen, with wizards on teams that go on missions.

Some other shounen that might be on your radar would be Hunter x Hunter, Radiant, and the Seven Deadly Sins.

  12. Here are my favorite main characters in anime.

Main Characters by - free online collage maker

    Spoiler

Top: Araragi Koyomi (Kizumonogatari). His character was always weird, but the Monogatari's third season made me appreciate who he really was: a confused, emotional kid who's just trying his best with what he's given.

Right: Hikigaya Hachiman (OreGairu). He was cynically relatable in season one, but his development in season two is what made me appreciate OreGairu as a story with more beneath the surface.

Bottom: Shouya Ishida (A Silent Voice). Everyone makes mistakes, but putting those regrettable moments in the forefront lets us really know Shouya personally. I felt a lot of pangs watching A Silent Voice, thinking about my own past actions.

Left: Phosphophyllite (Land of the Lustrous). Poor gem. I won't say anymore because of spoilers, but everyone I know that has finished Land of the Lustrous has agreed with me that the show makes you like Phos.

These collages are really easy to make. I'm excited to see what you guys have in mind. These collages can be about anything: your favorite anime, your favorite main characters, your favorite love interest, anything!

Here's the website that I used to make mine. Have fun!
