  1. I would recommend Flying Witch as well, though there are a few scary things like this mandrake.
  2. I like all works directed by Makoto Shinkai and this one is yet another piece of artwork he brought into daylight. Most of his works refer to real life situations which you can easily relate to and the plot comes over quite authentic. EDIT// I don't want to spoil anything so just gonna mention that I gave this a rating of 9/10. Unfortunately, it was too short.
  3. Koutetsujou no Kabaneri - I assume this is what you would regard as a old-fashioned zombie anime, though they're called Kabane (dead corpse) in the show.
  4. Life is too bitter, so coffee, at least, should be sweet... ~ Hikigaya Hachiman
  5. It's still up to everyone to decide for himself whether they want to support their respective anime shows by spending money or not. I don't think anyone is willing to pay more money than they can hold on their hands. Although streaming sites such as Crunchyroll, for instance, is a great way to support. (in terms of pricing, it is pretty alright considering the service they offer) I personally don't have anything against pirating but be aware of the damage it may cause to the content creator.

    New Staff

Congratulations to the new Staff members.
  7. Welcome back Kirry. I believe, it was you and your high spirits that kept this place move on back in the days. I or partly we didn't forget your contributions, so i'm glad to see you back here.
  8. Finally weekend!

Now I should be able to lean back for awhile and watch some anime.

  9. Erased. It's unique story is truly unmatched and if you prefer a good story then you should probably put this on your watch-list. You were also pointing out that you like animes related to literature, I would recommend taking a look at Hyouka as well.
  10. Welcome to AF @ArchieKun. As I see you're into gaming? Precisely into JRPG's, did you try Ni No Kuni yet? It's a fantastic game imo, with a touch of ghibli vibe.
  11. Better late than never. Welcome to the forums, @Decimo. I hope you've a pleasant stay on AF.
  12. When was the last time I welcomed any new member? I must have gotten tired of welcoming every new member after realizing that they'll never show up here ever again.

Or am I just conserving energy as Houtarou would say in this very moment :D

  13. Is your profile picture by any chance of the Light Novel Mushoku Tensei?

It was on my to-read list for awhile now, would you recommend it?

@MucoYes! It's Eris to be exact. Regarding your second question, and please understand that I am very very biased about this series, I 100% recommend it to anyone who reads light novels or likes fantasy/isekai. It's my favorite light novel series and I honestly adore all the characters in it. Just a warning, I know some people did not like Rudy whatsoever due to his nature in the beginning of the story, but he has some of the best character development I have seen in my opinion.

But yes, definitely give it a read if you have the time and give me your thoughts if you'd like!
(The LN finally got licensed in the West recently which is great news since I've been wanting a physical copy)

I read the description beforehand and It was one of those MMORPG Light Novels we've excessively. That's why I was approaching it with caution. Thanks for your opinion even if it was biased, I will read it nevertheless 😆 and see for myself.

@MucoYeah the whole isekai craze has definitely made the market over-saturated. If you haven't read it already, The Faraway Paladin is another excellent fantasy isekai. The tone is a bit different from most isekai, almost western-like, but it's still a great read. And you're welcome, I hope you enjoy it, even if just a little bit!

  14. I know trailers fall under the category of self-promotion but this topic is nearly the opposite of anime commercials, that could ever hope becoming an anime. I posted some examples of how anime commercials look like and @Decimo posted one as well. I was also asking for your thoughts about anime commercials. do you approve them? Do you find them silly? Are they good practice to learn japanese? And more discussion material is written above, if you read the first lines of my posting. I agree on this completely. If you compare western commercials with anime commercials then you will eventually realize this very quick. I guess it has become an important income in Japan which would explain the amount of effort they put into their commercials. I doubt anime commercials will ever get to western countries, though I wouldn't mind seeing Western Studios doing commercials as well, as you said and with what I agree on, It has a greater effect than something that's captured through a camera. I don't know how memorable it can be at the end, it depends on many factors like content and how frequent you see it.
  15. We live in a day of age where commercials have progressed to a whole new extent that we feel just overwhelmed by the sheer amount of influence, it has on our daily lives. Though this topic primarly sets his focus on the anime commercials, where the market share is increasing day by day. Did you ever see an Anime commercial and asked yourself „what anime is this from?!“ or had the urge need to see this commercial turning into a real anime? What are your thoughts on Anime commercials in general? Do Anime commercials have an effect on people who live overseas? I have been watching some anime commercials lately and was fond of the animations – though I couldn‘t really understand the actual intention of what the commercials were referring to at first. (without reading any background story as to why this commercial was made for) Kyoto Animation: Ikitaku Naru Omise-hen In terms of visual appeal, Kyoto Animation is definetely top notch, one, which only a few can compete with. That‘s why it‘s not suprising to see them on my list since they were, moreover responsible for the production of many well-known titles like Violet Evergarden , Hyouka and Free!. I think this commercial resembles slightly to Flying Witch but I cannot really explain why I feel that way, however this short sci-fi commercial with a little tad of slice of life really caught my eye. Taisei Kensetsu: Vietnam Noi Bai Kuukou Comix Wave Films is a film studio who are the maker of Your Name & 5 Centimeters Per Second – I used to call them Ghibli Junior at some point xD. Anyway, they‘re producing short movies and commercials from time to time which is incredible if you think about it, they put a handful of their manpower and knowledge into a 30 sec lengthy commercial video, which turns out to be more of a trailer to an upcoming movie rather than a commercial. This one was particularly produced under the supervision of Makoto Shinkai. I think it would be a great change of scene if this would turn into an anime.
  16. R.I.P Stefán Karl Stefánsson.

Lazy Town marked a little but noticeable piece of my childhood.

  17. Did anyone get his hands on Grand Blue? Have you ever seen comedy and if you did, what do you regard as a good comedy show? Recently there's been many discussions on-going on other forums e.g blogs relating this show, I sorta felt the urge to post a dicussion thread here. I initially started to watch it due to the Free! vibe, though the show is focusing on another aspect of the water world which is deep diving but i've seen so far only a little about the "diving" which is this anime all about and the sole focus was primarily set on the comedy parts. Whether it's good or not has everyone to decide for themselves. I will leave a MAL link here for those who haven't seen the show yet.
  18. I had plans on re-watching Hyouka soon, thanks for the info.
  19. It's inevitable if you are studying or if you've gotten excessive work and there is a time schedule until it needs to be finished. When i'm stressed, I take my headphones and go take a walk outside. You will be suprised how quickly you forget all the pressure for the mean time and just relax.
  20. If we don't count in pokemon/Yugioh/Bakugan/Digimon and whatever else was running on TV back then. I would have to say that my first real anime was Spirited Away. I was around 8-9 years old. I could tell the difference to the usual cartoons I had seen right away. There were a couple of other anime movies running on TV like Nausicaä, My Neighbour Totoro, Castle in the Sky and the list continues on, to sum it up, I grew up watching all the ghibli movies.
  21. Houtarou from Hyouka is the character who represents me the most. (I used to be the complete opposite of what Houtarou represents and his ideology "consuming energy" if i'm looking back to my youth.)
  22. Heyy Rye, how have you been?

I was away for a short time but now i am back yay, where did you hide the potato pancakes?!?

I don't have enough spare time left besides my studies so writing an application to any of the vacancies was never an option to me. I hope someone else will take over for Optic.

Did you write an application to one of the vacancies, @RyePotatoes?

Naaaah, too busy with college and all. I'm even reprimanded by my very close friend not to be a lazy bum and attend other activities. I'm so busy with just academic stuffs how much more with other activities on the load XD

  23. I wish you all the best at your new workplace, @Optic. From what i've read above, your work sounds to be very stressful, take care of your health. To be frank, I think @brycec suits the role of the community manager the most but that's just my personal opinion.
