    General - applies to ALL areas of Anime Forums 🖥️

     

    NO ADVERTISING your website (non profit websites are exempted) / forum / YouTube / Discord / channel / etc. in any of the content areas. Only advertise in your profile and signature. If you have joined AF just to advertise you will immediately be flagged as a spammer and banned.

    • Be courteous to ALL members, it's OK to disagree about differences in opinion but you must not resort to personal attacks.
    • No links to unlicensed downloads and streaming sites.
    • No SPAM - no (out of context) memes or pointless posts except via private Messaging and in the Forum Games section. You may share memes       within an existing topic if it's related to the subject, and if the tone is appropriate.
    • Profanity is allowed, but should be used with moderation and never for personal attacks. As such, any slurs meant to be hurtful will bring consequences.
    • No racism (discrimination towards any ethnicity, usage of stereotypes for attacks or mockery), no queerphobia (this includes anything from homophobia to transphobia and ableism), no discussion of general illicit activities. No politics outside of dedicated clubs and blogs (none of the politics discussed will necessarily reflect those of AF).
    • Do not harass other members by any means. This includes warning of retaliation, threatening with punitive action, or any attempt of intimidation.
    • No R18 content in any of areas EXCEPT in private, unlisted Clubs. Or through Direct Messages ONLY if it's explicitly solicited.
    • Do not impersonate staff or other members.

    Forums 💬

    • Please try to post at least 1-2 sentences in your posts. Readers are more likely to respond and discuss the topic further if your post is more appealing in length.
    • Chat posts and casual posts belong to the Messaging feature or in the Random section in the Forums.
    • Keep posts to English! unless it's a quote or context necessary, like a linguistics themed club/blog.

    Blogs 📔

    • Blogs and posts should be related to anime, Japanese culture, Videogames, Cosplay, your personal hobbies or your personal life.
    • Blogs are public. Please be mindful of the information you share.

    Clubs 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

    • There is a set limit of 2 clubs you can create and manage.
    • Open/Public Club content may be featured on the front page from time to time, be mindful of this.

    Fan Art and Images 🎨

    • If you are uploading fan art / images that someone else has made you MUST provide a link to the source and name the creator. The creator reserves the right to request it be taken down if permission wasn't granted.
    • No AI generated images are allowed at all.

    If you are feeling threatened, being attacked or find content that is inappropriate at Anime Forums:

    • Report it. There is a report link below each content item.
    • A staff member will respond to your report ASAP. Do not respond directly to the content or member as it may compound the problem.

    Account Deletion Policy 🚫

    • Anime Forums is a public community. If you have had major discussions in forum topics, removing your posts can significantly affect the flow of the    discussion as you may have been quoted.
    • If you've been a member for sometime, and have made significant contributions to the community - your account will not be deleted. It will be anonymized. We will endeavor to remove any personal information during the process.
    • After an account is deleted or anonymized by staff, we won't be able to restore it. Please think carefully before making this request.

    Hello hello, I think it's appropriate that I make a short statement on what exactly this change means:

    As Optic mentioned, we will review the forums' state and make some changes accordingly to try and accomodate equally both old members, and the newer members to make it easier and more comfortable to stay and navigate. Some of the bigger changes that are coming for now are:

    • Rewriting the Rules and Guidelines of Anime Forums to better fit today's standards and new potential concerns
    • Main page forum and subforums layout rearrangement to fit current activity levels

    This said, every user is invited to speak up their thoughts on changes, and could possibly even make polls occasionally to receive feedback from you. My DMs are equally open for any type of concerns.

    Madoka Magica and Entropy (cost of the infinite)

    This post will contain spoilers for the anime Madoka Magica, the 12 episode anime.

     

    I just recently finished watching the anime episodes of Madoka Magica, which gives a take on many philosophical questions, one of them being related to physics and I really thought it was worth exploring.

    The problem is as follows:
    In this universe, there's a civilisation of seemingly advanced magical creatures that are described as feeling no emotion (or those that do are considered mentally ill), and they wish to make 'progress'. They have sought means to harvest energy to make up for the rise of entropy for a long time, and their answer was to harvest the emotions of the human race. Their sadness, rage, happiness, their whole souls, basically. They do this by providing each person who makes a contract with them magical powers, turning them into a magical girl. Once they give up their soul, the human is subject to harvest energy from distorsions in reality that corrupt and cause the suffering and death of people. It doesn't sound too bad... does it?

    Later, it is revealed that the humans are eventually destined to return the good they've done for the world, in the opposite way. Because of giving up their soul, they are prone to losing themselves and becoming the very distorsions they used to destroy, only this time causing all the pain back that they once thought they avoided. The advanced civilisation creatures don't care, for their lack of emotions, and they've been thriving off of humanity's suffering for as long as history knows.

    My personal belief is that when the question comes up, 'what's the price of an eternal civilisation?', my firm answer is that there is none that are worth the exploitation of other beings. The exploitation of other planets, living creatures. I believe the universe should die at one point. Entropy does its thing, and that will be the end of it.
    If you were given the choice, would you accept to extend the life of the universe? If so, what's your purpose and reasons?

    @The History Kid @What the Fuck. I am somehow just learning about some of this now, I just want to address that I've been present here checking in everyday for the last couple of years too. I had no clue about these inner quarrels, nor did I ever hear about this transphobic ciscussion, but I will root out wherevere it comes from right now.

    Probably not much use to it since the Forums aren't very active, but heck, I'll do it anyways.

    To any others, I am still an active moderator around, so please don't hesitate to come to me if any trouble arises.
