  1. Hi! I'm new here as well and noticed no ones had a chance to say hi to you yet. Thought I'd drop a line. There a ton of topics to go through here. I spent a good day just browsing. Hopefully you'll find lots which interests you See you around!!
  2. So many new people this forum is lively its nice. I'm new too, nice to talk with you! If you're looking for a quirky anime that is easy to find you could check out My Hero Academia. What kind of gaming do you do?
  3. I'm just over halfway. There are 30 episodes and its all black and white. Its actually not bad to watch, lots off panning over scenes instead of intense animation. But, what can you expect for a low budget anime from the 70's. The story is good so far. I like an anime that can make me cry at points. Finishing Violet Evergarden was SO FLIPPING HARD. That was my most recently finished anime >->; to follow this threads theme...kind of
  4. I've been watching Dororo To Hyakkimaru before starting the new Dororo.
  5. No, I would not like to know either. If I knew, I feel like I would inadvertently miss out on my actual life trying to prevent my death. Do you have any pets?
  6. This is actually really hard 0_0 All I could think of was Fullmedal Alchemist
  7. Its to slow for my taste. Although back in highschool I used to like bands like Dream Theater and Opeth, tastes change. If you had the ability to design and implement a machine. What would it be/do?
  8. I love Krita thats my recommendations for free software (close to photoshop - allows layers so you don't mess up your work) and there are tons of tutorials out there). Your tutorials are awesome @Ryan Dave Jimenez When drawing, for sketching YES just use any sketchbook. You'll notice acidity levels and allowable mediums to use on your support (term for paper/canvas/wood whatever is supporting you medium). Ignore acidity just view mediums you can use like pencil/graphite/marker IF you're going the traditional way just to make it easier. Try out different supports though, you might find you like one option more then another. I have a friend who loves drawing on black paper. For clean line work, crisp sheets, marker friendly paper, I tend you use paper that's good for copics OR bristol. ALSO, light boxes are awesome for tracing over your rough draft instead of erasing lines and being left with indents in your paper. If you don't have a light table or light box, use a lamp under a glass table...I used to do that back in the day before I got a drafting table. If anyone wants tips on traditional art hit me up, I used to give art lessons to seniors because its fun and am a post grad fine art student.
  9. I think its awesome you posted this. You demonstrated for others your process in making this comic come alive. I hope people view this almost as a tutorial on its own haha Great work!! I hope you continue.
  10. Love this as inspiration to get you started. I will add on some more to your tutorial (if that's alright). I agree, find the artists you love, replicate their work draw their character as many times as you feel natural and comfortable drawing them. BUT, work smart. While you're replicating, watch how they are drawing their lines, why they choose to make certain lines, thick/thin, try to look up other tutorials (there are so many sources online that teach proportions) and keep your work so you can see how you progress. It will make you feel so much stronger and more enthusiastic when you can look back at your progress. I'm a part time painter/pastel artist, and hobby artist. When I am taking commissions to draw people, animals or large scenery from a picture I choose to grid the original out and redraw on a larger grid. It saves time and allows you to view the image in parts. When you are drawing and copying, keep in mind you don't have to think of the whole picture, heads/hands/torsos all make up individual parts which have unique shapes and curves. Flip your picture sideways or upside down if you need to. Once you are comfortable with the shapes, then move on to more difficult techniques. AS FOR THE HANDS AND FEET Practice makes perfect. I have many pages dedicated to different poses in my sketch book to go back to when needing a reference....draw my own hands, have pinterest boards, use deviant art, asks friends. Copy copy copy oh quick edit - give yourself an impartial view of your picture you're working on by taking a picture of it and looking at the pic....I know that sounds weird, but it will help you view it another way.
  11. I'm a 90's kid, so 80's and 90's anime was kind of my gateway drug. I was more into Hayao Miyazaki's work, Dragon Ball, Grave of fireflies (watch if you want a very good cry), Akira, Angels Egg and Night on the Galactic Railroad...BUT THE 90's holy. So must happiness 0-0 Anyways, welcome! I'm new too, maybe we will see each other around ^^v
  12. @The History KidIts refreshing to feel like a “junior” on here. I was worried it would be weird going back on a forum and having more younger demographics. I've been pleasantly surprised thus far at the wide range of users! LOL I'll make sure to avoid all grassy areas if I head down to Cali again @efaardvark Oh dear, I feel you about the weather. I experience bipolar weather day to day haha sometimes hourly ^^; (Alberta memes) That's awesome about the rotary phone, we used to have one at my dad's house. Its the perfect add in to any horror movie watching session. I mainly use my lenovo laptop, but I also have an ipad, and desktop. I'm more of a PC girl myself, not really big into mac computers. Although, I do like my ipad! I've never gotten into Linux looks....overwhelming to me hahaha. @Anime loveer its always a pleasure to chat. That's cool you're Chinese. Do you know Canto or Mandarin?
  13. Thank you for the points I hope it doesn't hinder you in some way :/

    1. Anime loveer

      Anime loveer

      no it doesn't

      youre welcome :)

  14. @Anime loveer its awesome even if you aren't close to Canada haha its nice to meet people from all over. That's the nice thing about forums. Are you from Asia and just visiting the states? If so, thats a pretty big deal! You must have a lot of interesting experiences. lol @efaardvark I'm not going to lie, I was waiting to see how either of you would react to being called "old" >< hah SO wait, flip phone, brick phone or rotary? I feel like this forum will be interesting already. I wont lie, I miss a lot of the camaraderie from the last forum I was on. Especially when you have a user base that has been together for a long time
  15. Ahh I see. Well, style wise I personally prefer more dynamic work like Cre.o.n (L.Gerchel) on Instagram. I guess you can see the confidence in the line work. It makes me want to draw haha I view the art styles I like as clean, clear and or emotive.
  16. Please ignore the writing ^^;; I was bored at my friends shop and was doodling on his white board. hahah
  17. wahhh your line weight looks really good on this one! The clothes look really good Sorry thought I'd throw that in -.- seeing as I've made comments on all your other posts lol ^^;;;;
  18. These aren't bad at all, however, I think you would benefit by doing more layers to help get rid of the canvas tooth/texture a bit more. THAT BEING SAID, art is totally subjective and you might have wanted the canvas to show. Your work reminds me of water color in the sense that your colors looked thinned out, you should try doing one where you layer more paint after each drying cycle it will make it look even more like a water color wash. You currently also look like you aren't adding shadows or highlights to your work but using the canvas to create the highlights. I really like playing with light when I use acrylics you should give it a try (adding some burnt umber and phthalo blue to say skin colors to make shadows). IF you added more paint though with no shadow it would look like pop art so either way you can push it even further if you wanted and it would look good! Keep up the awesome work!!
  19. lol I like the geo jokes. I think its great too. I've already found a lot of interesting topics to jump into so I'm happy
  20. I have a sketch book full of poses that I like to work on for practice...same with hands =-= stupid hands. That being said, there are posable figures you can buy for models...you make them pose (some are shaped anatomically in manga/anime style...can find chibi ones too haha). Or, if you checkout deviantart and look up posing examples there are a lot of people who will post shots of themselves posing. As for your character designs, I think you just need to work on dynamic poses and shading/line weight. As a really really hyperbolized example of this, the anime Red Line utilizes a lot of dynamic line weight. You don't have to go that far, but, yeah, for example.....where there would be more shadows or more "pressure on a line" you would thicken in...or if there was a lot of light on one area of a line, you would lighten/thin it. That will give you pictures more life. Your lines are very crisp and clean though and your proportions are really good!
  21. I use a Huion tablet. I love the stylist, its light and sensitive. It took some time to get used to the it like weight and such from my hand and adjusting the program I use to get smoother lines. When you do get one check up on tutorials for the program you plan and using and then on the tablet you are using so you can use both to the best of their abilities. Biggest hurdle to get over when buying a tablet....drawing on a separate entity to your image. You need to make sure you're lined up properly with your screen and get used to watching the monitor and kind of ignoring your hand if that makes sense haha. You DO get used to it though after practice (just like anything). Tablets can be really cheap so do some research into the different stylus out there. Circle tests are what you're basically looking at ....if you try to draw a circle with a bad tablet, and or the program isn't set up for you it will look like a jagged bunch of line or even a half circle with lines shooting up. (Youtube tablet differences haha) Drawing on a cintiq or an ipad where you see the picture under your stylus will give you the most comparable feel similar to drawing on paper. But, they end up costing way more. Some stores will let you sample the products so if you can do that go for it! It will let you get a feel for the weight of the stylus or the size of the window you can draw within. Good luck on the switch!
  22. lol battle of the ageists ^^;;;; hahaha I'm going to learn all the slangs hmm teaching about Canada that's funny. Its not that different then the states. Although you wont see as many billboards recommending lawyers like...ever It seems this forum has a lot of people from all over the world though
  23. I was going to suggest getting a ipad pro and use promake instead of photoshop BUT then I saw you needing coding software and was like....bah, you need android or its just annoying. Galaxy Tab s6 is really good for drawing (stylus has changed a lot). Also see if you can go test the one you want to buy. You may not like the feel of the stylus on one vs another option. I'm not really sure about the ports though....tablet vs laptop? Anyways, my biggest thing I wanted to reply, as I assume you will get more responses to this is YES try to buy used or refurbished. Refurbished mashes working parts together, gives you a warranty, looks like new and is so so much cheaper. I bought my ipad that way good luck on your search!
  24. I started with Photoshop, before it was a subscription service... for drawing I just use Krita now. It's free and there are a lot of users who throw up tutorials and downloadable brushes and presets. Totally depends on what you're doing with it ....I like free, so that was what drew me to Krita from photoshop. Some tutorials will show you other programs to use for fonts and stuff. Krita sucks for writing.
