  1. Yep, I do have friends and acquaintances who watch anime.  Way more than I do or will. Check my MAL regarding that. lol  I don't watch as many shows as I used to.  Not sure why I seem to lose my interest easier as the years go by.  The only anime I still kinda keep up with is Detective Conan, but only the movies because I grew bored of the actual anime series nearly 10 years ago.  I still prefer manga to anime in general, though.

  2. I don't think I have much of a true favorite food anymore, but I guess I can name one of my favorite Japanese dishes.  Sukiyaki.  Love the stuff.  Wish I had a nabe so I can prepare it here more properly. I couldn't buy one before moving back home. ><  Oh, I know, sandwiches!  I love sandwiches. That's something I missed while living in Japan...good sandwich shops.

Favorite type of candy...probably Starburst, Jolly Ranchers, and Airheads.

    Favorite drink...probably lemonade.

Favorite snack food...this is tougher. I have to be in the mood for a snack food.  Maybe those White Cheddar Cheetohs? Haven't had those in like a few weeks.

Hawaii has a lot of Japanese influence being so close to Japan, and all. Plus with the world being as small as it is now with air travel its not surprising really.

I guess what I meant was that it was invented in the US and expanded internationally, not the other way around. But yeah, it does seem to be very popular in Hawaii and yes, there is a lot of Japanese influence there.  I'm sure it's used in Japan, but as I mentioned, I don't recall ever seeing it for purchase in the normal supermarkets, only the stores that carried international food items, like Kaldi's, which is known for its coffee, or Costco.

That would easily have to be span. Far as I know it was invented there, and yes it is international nowa days, but still is trash.

I actually think Hawaii when I think of SPAM personally. I'm sure it's over in Japan, though, but I've never personally come across SPAM in the normal supermarkets (but it's not something I'd actually go out and buy or look for, so I could've missed it).  I have come across it in International stores there, though. That aside, I'm pretty sure SPAM is a US food invention anyway.

Ah!  😰 They eat Black Beauty!?  Guess I'll have to be extra careful if I ever visit Japan not to get that. I don't think I ever could in good conscience.

Yup. Where i lived (Nagai, Yamagata), horse was a popular regional thing.  I never tried it sashimi style (never had the opportunity) but I loved the horse ramen.

  6. Hi everyone. I know it's been a while, but decided to make this topic. So has anyone here ever watched any live-action dramas? If so, what have you seen? Let's discuss it. ^_^

  7. I have a few phobias, but my main one is arachnophobia.  I have a big fear of spiders, but it's not as strong as it once was, but if you put one in front of me, I'll still scream or shriek.

I have a slight fear of heights, which is ironic since I've used a plane more than once.  I guess, for me, it's like I'm okay if I'm strapped down or have a seat belt or whatever. I have an issue if I have to get on step stool or a ladder or whatever. I blame it on bad balance. lol

Yeah it's kinda hard to go back to anime that you've stopped watching...especially since it's kinda old lol

@ssjup81 yeah they have tons of fillers, which is the most annoying thing ever but i guess its because they wanted the manga to move further ahead? still didn't make it any less tedious though

I know a lot of people felt this way, but for me, I never had a problem with Naruto's filler since they were usually character focused and anime original. Also, for me, the manga was dropped by me for the same reason as the anime...it felt like the actual main plot was dragging and felt that it was time to end.

  9. Hm, I guess I like it in some way.  A couple I've seen are and liked are the Tales of Symphonia OVAs, and some of the .hack series. I guess maybe Utawarerumono might count here too.  Maybe the Mahou Sensei Negima series as well...but that's so-so to me.

Anyone have any "fantasy" anime recommendations that's a bit older?  Something before the early 2000s? Early 2000s are okay, but seems for me, I have trouble getting into much after like 2004 or 2005.  Stuff dealing with magic in a fantasy-like world has always been a draw for me in general, regardless if it's anime or not.

  10. Man, you guys have a lot of series there.  My list is terribly short...but here's the link that goes directly to my, "Plan to watch" list.  Most of these titles have been sitting here for years.  The newest thing there is Detective Conan movie 22.  I bought my movie ticket ahead of time for April 13, but due to my being busy, I couldn't actually go see it on opening day.  So, I contributed to the sales, I just didn't see it since I was so busy preparing to move back here to the states.  I'll have to wait for a sub online this time. 😞  I was also disappointed that there wasn't a theatrical Kuroshitsuji movie this year.  There was last year and I truly enjoyed it.

We would have to ask JKR ourselves. Since ssjup disagrees with you. I still think Hermonie and Harry wouldve worked out fine though.

I want them to be a couple! x3

I'm not fully disagreeing with the poster, though. I just corrected the poster. JKR never said she should've had Hermione end up with Harry (Harry x Hermione fans jumped to that conclusion...she just said that maybe the relationship wouldn't work out in adulthood , due to Hermione being so critical and Ron wit his self-esteem issues, unless they worked hard at it, which she never said they wouldn't or couldn't) and she DID hint at Ron and Hermione as early as book 1 and the two DO fit the "bickering couple dynamic" and the two DO enjoy their bickering sessions on some level because JKR showed that in book 5 that both were bothered and offended when Harry got on them for their bickering.

So did the author originally until she poisoned her storylines by reading Fanfiction based off of her series  (which is why the Herm Weasley romance reads like a crappy fanfic). The change greatly weakened the storyline to me and signaled the end to her originality. I can't stand to read the books anymore.

Actually, this isn't true at all. Nowhere did JKR say that Hermione would've worked with Harry. She just mentioned that maybe she wouldn't have worked out with Ron in the long run or something like that, who knows....but Harry was NEVER mentioned and given Hermione's personality and Harry hating to be nagged, it probably wouldn't work out at all which is why Harry only saw her in a platonic way and almost like an older sister/mother figure.  Also, JKR was hinting at Ron x Hermione as early as book 1 and pretty much slapped us in the face with it in book 2.

Kinda hate when people twist what JKR said regarding that.

Book wise, though, Ron x Hermione works since they fit the bickering couple dynamic and in book 5, you find out they actually LIKE it on some level.  Movie wise, imo, Ron x Hermione doesn't work.  Hermione seems better suited with Harry.

  13. If I were a kid being asked this question, I would've probably said Victorian London or either the Medieval times in England as I always had a fascination with both back then...but knowing what I know now, NO WAY!  I'd also be scared of time traveling because I'm black and would probably be treated like crap anyway and probably be accused of being "uppity".

I'd stick to the present-day.  At least I know my limitations in the present....but maybe I'd jump into the future by a couple of weeks just to get winning lottery numbers or something and return back with that knowledge. At least I'll be able to visit Japan again sooner rather than later and maybe take a European vacation. lol

I think it's more the fact that most males don't want to show off their penis to the world (because apparently size does count to some women so most men are fearful they aren't big enough. Although in my opinion it's not the size but what you do with it, lol). And honestly I don't understand why men are afraid to see another penis. It's only sexual if you fantasize about having sex with it, lol (in my opinion anyway).

Anyway, yeah you need, NEED to watch it! Omg, I can't wait til the next season! *screams*

Actually, I figured it was due to our having a hetero-male biased world. Most guys don't want to see naked dudes. Women have been subjected to being "sex objects" for centuries now, so it's expected for them to be shown off as such in certain mediums.

Little known fact about me, I'm totally in love with South Park. I think that counts as a cartoon? In its early days, there was a lot of crude or questionable humour and its bank of comedy relied largely on running gags, despite having some genius sprinkled here and there. The newer seasons, from around 2007 and onwards, have matured a lot from those days and has a sense of continuity. I've even gotten my mother hooked on it. If you ignore the fact that its been running for twenty years, its seen a lot more character development than you would expect from a programme of its nature, which is something that is especially important for me to like something. Just about every single character has some kind of quirk, some history, and stories to tell, and I just love them all to bits.

I totally forgot about South Park.  I still watch that.  I miss when the show had normal-length seasons, though.  The most recent season was pretty enjoyable.

Anyway, the reason the show matured was probably because Matt and Trey have. They're both in their late 40s now.

  16. I don't watch many shows in general, but some that I do like are...

    Adventure Time

    Sonic Boom

    Ducktales 2017

I think that's all I'm currently watching and I really like those shows. Looking forward to more new episodes of Sonic Boom. The only other shows I can think of that I watched, but ended months ago, was the 2012 version of TMNT.
