I'm coming up on 2 years (in October) with my Prius Prime plug-in.  Been great so far.  The only issue with it at the moment is it desperately needs a bath.  :)

I would love to invest in an electric or hybrid vehicle when charging stations are installed in my region! 🤩 Everyone seems to have great experiences with them.

My Edge (which I bought last October after @The History Kid talked me into it, shout out to him) also needs a bath. My driveway is under a tree and it gets frequently targeted by birdie-butts.

Of course Miroku asking every woman he meets to father his children or fondling Sango’s backside in the original wasn’t exactly subtle 😂 I’m reasonably hopeful fanservice won’t be a big factor, but wonder if it wander into yuri territory as Towa seems like she could could fall into the stereotypical female “prince” type.

Yeah that's what I'm seeing too. I was hoping they wouldn't repeat the Miroku thing. But we do have newer animes like 7DS with that juvenile 'gag' present, so I'm well aware it's not a dead trope.

  3. Please please don't let this fall prey to ecchi tropes.

I love seeing women in lead roles but when it happens with anime, there's always a 50/50 chance they become needlessly sexualised to the point some only watch "for the plot."

I'll be watching this when it reaches my region, I hope they treat the original series with due respect and make this a worthwhile standalone.

  4. I generally prefer a dub where I can find it. For me having to read subtitles incurs a sort of disconnect between what is being said and the tone it's being said in (perhaps thanks to putting more focus on the act of reading and trying to absorb the visual at the same time.) This is also me speaking as a habitual multitasker who is nearly unable to simple sit down and watch something- I need to be folding laundry or getting something productive accomplished.

But, speaking to the broader debate, when the question is subjective in nature it's important to remember we're not going to come to an objective answer. To that end, I'm not concerned too much about how others choose to consume their anime. If you like subs, watch subs! If you like dubs, watch dubs!

I still forget it at times.  It's not a second nature thing for me, and I don't imagine it ever will be.  Either way, what gets me is the people that are literally wearing them all the time if they leave the house.  In their car - wearing them.  I'm not sure what they think they're stopping in their car, but more power to them I suppose.

Yeah that one is a head-scratcher. But it's much preferred over outright refusal to wear one. I see videos shared online all the time, adults acting like toddlers when asked to wear a mask. Saw one with a 60-something planting her butt on the floor like a tempermemtal two-year-old and refusing to move until the manager came to kick her out.

  6. Has anyone seen this?

I enjoyed it as a concept but I found the MC a bit of a letdown. I understand she acted her age-- willing to lose her sense of self over a boy she liked. But it wasn't relatable in any way. The way she was up in his face at school was obnoxious. He could have been polite about letting her down. But instead he just bullies her more. And likewise she was unwilling to take a hint. These characters have zero chemistry.

The ending was terrible. I don't think it sent a healthy message.

That he suddenly decided he loves her enough to follow her into death and risk his very soul for her after another cat tells him what's going on is absurd.

There was opportunity for so much more depth and sympathy for the characters, but it just wasn't working for me. So I found it disappointing.

    What did you guys think?

If you watch 90% of an anime in one day, no matter how good it is, it won't feel nearly as grand as it really should and you'll never be satisfied. It's my belief that when you take your time and give yourself breaks, you're able to not only experience the story for longer, but you also give yourself a lot more time to fully absorb the events of the story. When you go full "binge" there isn't any time to reflect on past events, it's just a constant uninterupted flow.

Was going to say this, but was beaten to the punch.

In my experience, if I consume anything too fast, be it an anime, or a docuseries or a book, I find myself burned out much quicker than if I just slow down and enjoy it. It gives me something to look forward to. I haven't even finished the Handmaid's Tale TV series because I only allow myself to watch it when I fold laundry on Thursday nights (my most hated chore, btw.) But by doing that, I'm not only able to enjoy and appreciate it more, but eventually I will reach the end and have to find something new to fill that void, until it, too, is finished, and so on.

@Wedgy The reason you haven't seen me in so long is because I was banned off the site for reasons I'm not aware of for two years and some change, which makes me think that I was supposed to be banned for a much shorter period but someone forgot to unban me until one random day, they did. But that aside, I'm good.

I'm sorry to hear :( But happy to see you back in any case. Old faces are always a joy as much as the newer ones.

  9. I can say this year has been-- in spite of being completely overwhelmed at times-- overall going in a good direction for me. I've starting picking up more and more books. This year so far I've consumed 28 and counting, alternating and trying out new genres which I didn't expect I'd like (legal drama? Yesss!) My relationship with my mom is in the trash but I'm still going to therapy and learning how to let go of toxic family and friends. Our home search hasn't turned up with results yet, but the market is competitive and we have a shortage of houses here. We remain vigilant, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed something suitable turns up and we can land an offer on it.

I'm just devoting more of a focus on myself this year. Improving myself. I haven't been overly interested in anyone else's drama. My social life is debatable, but it doesn't bother me at all because I'm happy with the connections I do keep and cherish, and that's all that matters to me right now. I can worry about finding new friends later, when I've got this me thing down. I'm staying healthy both physically and mentally and I've really grown into being a mom to my awesome daughter who turns one on the 2nd. 🙂 I'm still struggling with work, but I've been taking classes online and, if I work hard and everything goes right, I can be out of the frontline by June next year or earlier.

@efaardvark Get this man a raise!

@RepentantSky How have you been? Haven't seen much of you at all for a long time now.

I won’t say it’s impossible to make her a sympathetic character but it sure as hell won’t be easy after they have done such a perfect job of portraying her as a truly despicable antagonist.

Her own backstory definitely is not an excuse for her-- I'm just pointing out this is a sad situation that happens in real life and Akito is doing a damn good job in portraying it.

The worst part of all is that right now, this same situation is happening to someone out there in real life. Real people get entrapped by predators like Akito due to their mental & emotional states ALL the time & it's just sick. This is literally the foundation of abusive relationships.

The real suckerpunch here is Akito is just continuing the cycle. The abused becoming the abuser. Also a very real thing.

  12. I for one welcome more Kyo fans. And there's still so much more to him! Akito's abuse and the dysfunctional culture of the Sohma family make him seem so abrasive when we first meet him.

What I still find curious about how the anime is being handled is how Akito is being referred to simply as Akito. As in, never once have I seen Akito spoken of with a pronoun. Which I find strange because it's actually a very important detail about her character. I guess we'll see how they tackle that later. 🤔

  13. I'll second The Promised Neverland- admitted it's a tiny bit slow-going, but I expect it will pick up some in the next season. Still worth a watch.

@Ohiotaku pretty much went over the good ones. You might enjoy Goblin Slayer (fantasy)?

I hear Vinland Saga is pretty good but I haven't seen it yet myself.
