Went a bit crazy at the company store today.  Honestly I just went there to get a new cap to replace my "InSight" cap.  I've had that one since EDL (landing day) and it has served me well for the last few covid years but it is looking a bit shabby and worn these days.  However, when I got there I found out they'd just got a bunch of new stock in.  Stuff tends to go quick and sometimes items don't come back so I took advantage of the opportunity.

Final damage: 4 new T-shirts, 3 pins, a sticker, and 2 caps.  :D

(And yes that's a Kerbal coffee mug behind the Europa Clipper cap.  Mug sold separately.)

That's an impressive haul of loot. 🙂

Went and got a jacket from the store at work.  (After a few windy, rainy days of sub 40-degree weather I figured I needed something besides my tattered old sweatshirt hoodie.  It's comfy but a sponge in wet weather and doesn't do much against the wind either.)

Also a new hoodie and a couple t-shirts.  They're finally getting Psyche merch in!

I've had that experience. Years ago I bought myself what looked like a nice winter jacket, just the thing I thought for waiting on wet windy railway stations.

How wrong could I be!!  The wind went straight through it, so unfortunately did the rain! 😡

Got an email from the store I buy my pipe tobacco from saying they had Cornell & Diehl's 2023 Small Batch pipe blend, Folklore, in stock. I'm a big fan of C&D's blends, so I thought I'd jump on this before they sold them out. The aroma coming from this tobacco is very pleasant. It has notes of dried dark fruits, black tea, various warm spices and faint woodsy and citrus undertones. Can't wait to fire it up! 🔥 I'm probably going to take a portion of it and put it in an airtight container to let it age for a while, maybe a year or so, and see how it compares to smoking it new.

Got a refrigerator magnet and a sicker for Korea's KPLO mission, otherwise known as "Korean Lunar Pathfinder Orbiter"...

(The spacecraft is Korean but NASA has a super-sensitive "ShadowCam" instrument aboard and JPL's Deep Space Network is providing communications and data processing for the mission.)

Woke up Monday to a dead car battery.  Happy Monday!  Not only that but my backup/jumper battery/telescope power station that I keep in the garage was dead as well.  (The grey monster in the back there in the pic.) Tried various things to resuscitate it but it won’t hold a charge no matter what I do.  On the recommendation of a coworker I went and bought one of the newer ones with a lithium battery.   He had one and says it works great.  We’ll see.  It certainly is smaller and lighter than the old lead-acid boat anchor it is replacing.

My car is a hybrid so it doesn’t need the cranking amps for a starter motor like a traditional gas car.  Mine is more like an EV.  The “auxiliary” battery (as Toyota calls it) just needs to be able to supply enough juice to boot the car’s computer and run it for long enough to get it through its boot checklist and trip the relays that connect to the car’s main “traction” battery.  Pretty much anything should work.

I still have to find a replacement to power the telescope though.

Back in the 70s I used to create cardboard cut-out models like that. They were quite popular at children's holiday clubs. One of the ones I made was for the Apollo CSM, but my Lunar Lander was far too complicated for the children.

The chocolate bar looks good, did they do them for any of the other characters?

I’m not sure.  I got this one from a coworker who just got back from Houston and I just got the one.

They were giving these out at the open house this year.  Each point of interest had its own card like this describing the site.  This one is for the Space Flight Operations Facility, also known as the center of the universe since it is where  all the data from all of NASA’s far-flung deep space probes gets sent to be processed and then sent out to the scientists and engineers controlling them.

They had a few left over so I grabbed a couple.  (Front and back.)

For my birthday in April, mom let me get some wireless earbuds (on sale for $14, but the sale is probably over now), the game Crisis Core Reunion: Final Fantasy VII for my Switch (but I'm trying to go through FFVII first, but I wanted to get it before it went out of stock while I could), and the strategy guide for the game, and the 4k Ultra bluray of FFVII: Advent Children. I've loved FFVII for a long time, but after Crisis Core Reunion came out, I've been thinking about little else. I know there's a remake, but I can't play it without having my ps4 overheat and possibly break. Remake or no, I'll stick to CCR, FFVII, and Advent Children.
