Senki Zesshou Symphogear: The Thread (That you should totally read.)

This is one of Japan's top selling anime, with 5 seasons, over the course of the past 7 years. Season 3 was #1 in sales for its season, while season 4 was ALSO #1 in sales for its season. AND season 3 beat ONE PUNCH MAN for the ENTIRE YEAR. And it isn't popular in the absolute bloody slightest outside of Japan.

I'm confused too, don't worry.

But if you want one of the best hype action shows of the decade, Symphogear is for you. It does damn near everything that people love about shounen action shows, except it does them far better than most actual shounens, despite Symphogear not actually being a shounen.

AND it's a fucking musical. Didn't see that coming, did you.

It ain't cutesy, it lives off of the rule of cool and more or less can't go more than 5 minutes without something exploding or it dies, with music that's about as cool as that whole concept is.

Watch this scene, and witness our beloved main character parry tank shells with her bare fists.

Watch Order:

Symphogear (a bit rough, don't judge the show based on this season. Still good, just not peak Symphogear.)

Symphogear G (This is where Symphogear actually starts to shine, and it stays that way. A shitty side studio fucked up the first season, so they fired them and swapped out 90% of the staff and you're left with a season that's vastly superior to the first in absolutely every god damn way you could ever expect. Get. To. This. Season.)

Symphogear GX (It got even prettier.)

Symphogear AXZ (The animation got better.)

Symphogear XV (Airing right now, and is really turning out to be a proper culmination and finale of 7 years of a franchise.)

OOOOO

Now that you've been so heartily informed of the best show ever, I'd love to hear what any of you think of it. First impressions based on this thread maybe, or impressions from you going to watch it! It's my favourite show by a mile, so I assure you I'm more than willing to chat your ear off about it, and if you aren't impressed by it... well, leave it to me ;)

I always thought this anime was about girls in tight fight-suits (that additionally makes their boobs look larger) who lose part of their suits during fights to the point you could call this ecchi. I guess my first impression was wrong, will look into it. As far as I know there is also a game franchise with the same name.

No game, unless you want to count the crappy mobile game, or that one time the main trio was tossed into Super Heroine Chronicles, which I'm not gonna count lmao

Purely an anime original series, fueled by the creators actually wanting to make the thing lol

Oh boy, another huge franchise to get into.

Spoiler

Image result for that's hell you're walking into fate

At least this one actually has a solid starting point, unlike Fate. Count me in, but it'll take a second for me to form an opinion.

I've seen the first 3 seasons, and while I love the music, I thought the show got quite tiresome by the forth. It seemed like they struggled to come up with some sort of justification as to why Hibiki and Crew would still be fighting.

Does the currently airing season seem as contrived? Do seasons 4 or 5 have anything comparable to the space ship crash scene?

Lack of justification? The Symphogear wielders are the only thing standing between the villains and the Earth getting blown up in most cases o.o I'm really not sure what's particularly contrived about it, though GX's biggest downfall was its writing, I'll admit that much.

Regardless, you'll probably be glad to know that AXZ and XV are the best the series has literally ever been. The writing is similar, yet different, with a lot of focus on tying past events together and just doing a whole lot of neat stuff. They also realized basically all of their past mistakes and either didn't repeat them, or literally went out of their way to fix some iffy stuff. Not to mention that AXZ and XV were announced at the same time, so the story for those two is particularly well done since it was planned 2 seasons in advance. So you shouldn't have any issues with AXZ or XV.

As for hype? Yeah Symphogear literally always one-ups itself, basically without fail. XV is chilling at 8.37 on MAL right now, placing it at the 5th most popular airing show this season. Which is insane lol. AXZ doesn't pull any punches either, it was just damn good. A lot of people describe AXZ as "GX but actually good." As well, AXZ has far better animation than GX does, while XV is just absolutely phenomenal.

Like look at this animation:

One subject near-and-dear to my heart is science fiction, with extreme emphasis on the science. Star Wars is not what I would call science fiction. It is swords and sorcery with fantastic, impossible weapons and “space ships” that fly and maneuver like airplanes.. even in the airlessness of space!  It doesn’t care about physics, not even its own. It doesn’t even understand that a parsec is a distance, not a speed. It is “science” fiction only because somebody dropped it in the genre and was too lazy to fish it out. Star Trek is also not science fiction. It uses science-ish words in a generally self-consistent manner, but it abuses them to hand-wave impossible technology like “warp” drives into existence. It is about as plausible science-wise as Neon Genesis Evangelion. A more appropriate name might be bafflegab fiction.
And just to short-circuit any heated "discussion" about the relative merits of the above as they pertain to entertainment, I happen to like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.  I'm not saying that they're in any way "bad".  However, for the purposes of this topic they are hereby declared to be "not-science fiction".  Not what I'm looking for and not what I'm here to discuss.  I cite them only because they are well-known examples of the sort of "science" fiction that I'm trying to get past.
      -----
No, what I’m looking for here is science-themed anime (or manga, or books) based on real science. What I mean by science-themed is that science or technology or engineering must be a central element of the plot, character(s), and/or setting, and nothing important to the plot or setting of the story should contradict generally-accepted, real-universe physical laws as science currently understands them. It may extend them, or speculate at the edges of that body of knowledge, but it must not contradict their core.
Tools and devices used must at least be theoretically possible to create and operate in the real universe, and ideally practically so.  Space ships made out of unobtanium or requiring energy equal to the mass of the universe to function for example are not practical and would be disallowed.  Likewise things like “psionics” or “superpowers” would be considered to be just different pronunciations of “magic” and likewise excluded from the category.
Note however that applications of Clarke’s 3rd law are allowed, even encouraged, provided the “magic” can be explained using science and fabricated with real-world engineering techniques. In other words, no wizards, unless they’re really cyborgs with their own wifi-controlled nanite swarms.  "Telepathy" between normal humans is allowed, if they've had the appropriate hardware surgically implanted.
If you’re still not clear on the concept, take a look at this page (Mohs Scale)  I’m looking for a 5 or 6 on the “Mohs scale”.
Examples of anime that might make the cut:
Planetes Dennou Coil (basically AR, just with really advanced hardware, and we already have stuff like pokemon go and Minecraft Earth) Sword Art Online, "Aincrad" arc (fantasy on top, yes, but a “hard” core of plausibly real-world technology underneath) Ghost in the Shell Space Brothers (borderline, could be considered simply slice-of-life or drama, but a focus on science and engineering as central to the setting and plot development saves it.) Moonlight Mile Rocket Girls Note that I’m making no claims as to the entertainment quality of any of the above, just stating that they have reasonably solid basis in real-world physics and engineering. IOW, they could be real in an alternate timeline or at some point in the foreseeable future.
I've seen all of the above.  If anyone has any others to recommend I’d love to hear about them. Many places, even book and movie stores, have “science fiction and fantasy” sections. Ugh.  Do a google search on “science fiction” and you’ll get Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune, etc. at the top of the list. With so many not-science topics obscuring the field it is hard to find the “real” science fiction that I’m after here.

People think shanks is the strongest yonko but they never saw him even fighting. Yes, I'm talking about when people put their yonko power rankings and its something like 1st - shanks, 2nd - kaido .. etc.. Why shanks first when you already know that Kaido is the strongest creature alive and when it's 1v1 u bet on kaido... In my opinion, the list goes like this

      1. Kaido.
      2. Big Mom.
      3. Blackbeard.
      4. Shanks.
      But you can disagree.

Big Mom, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated characters in one piece. A lot of people think she is the weakest yonko while we have only seen her get hurt by her own attack ones. She was able to defeat a 300-year-old strongest giant with one hit as a 5-year-old without her fruit and even Pirate King Roger avoided fighting her and stole her poneglyph. She even clashed with Kaido for a time and the fact she has such a strong crew might even make her the strongest if we also are talking about there crew.

Realtively new to anime, so I am looking for some inspiration in animes and anime streaming services. Currently I have Netflix, Wakanim and Crunchyroll.
      Favorites this far is:
Death Note, Attack on Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins and Sword Art Online.
Looking for similar type of series. A little dark, fight for survival, but strong characters who has strong bonds with eachother.
Particulary fond of characters as: Mikasa, Levi, Annie, Ymir and Eren from AoT, L from Death Note, Meliodas and Ban from 7DS, and Kiroto, Asuna, Shugu from SAO.
Have made an attempt on Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but I just can't be bothered to watch more than the first episode because of the whole Chibi situation and I feel like the characters and the "mood" is a little to juvenile and cheerfull for that type of show. Is this show going to get better? I feel such a pressure from all the fanboys of this show so my attitude has become "meh."
Looking for some with high quality storyline 4-6 seasons. But if there is a show with hundreds of episode which is bingeable and is quality troughout I'll gladly take reccomendations.
Please give a little description of the show especially if it is a must watch that isn't what I have requested.
But hey be my guest reccomend what you feel. 😀

Hi, so I'm new to this kind of stuff but yeah. I need help searching for covers to songs that are in the anime Grisaia No Kajitsu. I'm helping a friend out with his DDLC mod FotLC, and he is in need of the covers of Apple Clash, Deadlock, Dog Days, Grape Drops, In The Air, Kasabuta, Katzusoko, Mayoi no mori, and Warratte Itakute. All officially made by Junpei Fuj. He cannot release the final Chapter until he has these covers. Please help, I'm legit like scouring the internet in search of the covers. Some help would be most appreciated.
