Hopefully this doesn't get flagged as some sort of advertisement, because I came to this forum to talk about anime and invite people to join an old returning community.

My name is Streak, I was part of the best community on the internet for anime, 20 years ago.  It was called Boreasstar (Swords and Scepters..AKA SAS), I will be astonished if anyone remembers it.  I have loved anime way before it was "cool".  Back in the day when you slinked through dark aisles of video stores looking at obscure, what everyone else called just cartoons, anime....it was like you were looking at porn or something, that's how underground it was!  LOL...the first anime I saw, was the English release of Space Battleship Yamato, aka Star Blazers!  At the time I had no idea it was anime, I was a kid and things from around the world were foreign to me and well..the internet didn't really exist like it does now!  It was with that single anime that my love for it begun.  I have consumed so much anime through my years I can't begin to tell you all of it.

It was this love that drew me into the Otaku community back in 1999..which was Boreasstar.com.  I was introduced to ALOT of things then...the site and RP were mostly girls so I'm sure you can imagine what a lot of their love was for...here's a hint...it starts with a Y!  LOL  That community took a budding love and made flower into a complete obsession and I have been obsessed ever since, with anime and the RP.  It's that obsession that has driven me to decide to reopen Boreasstar after 18 years of it being shut down, so I can give that same love of anime and RP to a new generation.

I was known back then as Streak, the Guard Dragon (I was also called Dragon-Nii-Chan by many!) and so I am still to this day,  I'm not a boomer but I am an older Otaku and though my love is with the older anime (Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, etc.) I do find the new anime to be very appealing...like My Hero Academia or Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid!  I'm stepping back into this world, mainly because I'm opening Boreasstar back up and because I hope to learn about some new anime that I may not know about and maybe...show some people some older anime, they may not know anything about.

Ja ne!

Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy it here 😁

We have somethings in common. Like yourself, I’m a not quite a boomer who got his first taste of anime as a pre-teen watching Star Blazers. Didn’t know it was “anime”, but clearly wasn’t Disney or Hanna Barbera 😂 The next one to really get my attention was probably Robotech. Then spent far too much time & money at Suncoast during the 90’s & early 2000s. Sort of fell out of the loop when streaming  took over as the preferred medium, but came back in recent years. Currently watching many series from various genres. Only been a part online communities/forums for about 10 years. Never really felt at ease in the larger/better known ones. Was lucky enough to find a smaller one with some people I connected with, but not much activity anymore. Found this place almost 2 years ago and am very happy here.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!

It's definitely been a long...and enjoyable ride, this coaster of anime and I can't help but feel warm and giddy nostalgia every time I sit down to watch one (new or old).  There's always a feeling of apprehension when coming into a community like this...like "Am I too old to even be here?", I definitely don't want to be that old creepy guy that you always see creeping around cons with grey hair and a walker XD but I'm glad you all have given me such a wonderful welcome!  Makes me feel a little better ^,,^

I know I've been speaking with an old friend, we meet in Boreasstar's RP over 20 years ago...at the time they were 14...she's now married and with kids of her own (isn't the long lasting friendships you can make in this community wonderful?).  Talking with her is what sparked me to reopen Boreasstar.com and to kind of venture back out into this community.  It's funny talking with her because we always RPed together, wrote, watched anime, etc....and now she sits down with her kids to watch anime and they're like "Yeah, sure mom...maybe later" and you can just hear in their voices and see on their faces how uncool they think she is  XD...and it's the same with RPing!  If they only knew....  LMAO

I so want to invite people to my community and welcome them into my discord, etc. I have this amazing RP planned and all of that...but if I start posting Discord Links and web links I'll be docked for advertising :(  *sad*

56 in September here.  That’s 4032 Minecraft years.  Don’t worry about it.

There are a few 'older' members around who are also a joy to interact with, so no need to feel strange, you aren't alone at all and are quite welcome in AF! We're a big basket of variety if anything.

I can totally relate to the rp itch. I heavily frequented some rp communities myself 10-15 years ago, and while I don't have time for them anymore between my career and family, they remain some fond memories of very formative years. I learned many a lesson in not only how to post six-paragraph replies, but about respecting the person on the other side of the screen and other fun friendship things that would make Twilight Sparkle proud.

You can of course link to it in your profile (I see you have,) and in your signature as well. I'll let you in a little secret, too; if you stick around the forums and get to know the community, you'll unlock a special hidden forum where you can post links. 🙂

In any case, welcome! I'm glad you decided to stick around and I hope you'll feel comfortable here.

Oh, that would be awesome!  I love to expand the community and what not so I look forward to unlocking that hidden feature!  THANK YOU SO MUCH

And OMG, you're actually older than me efaardvark I find that to be unique  XD  I'm 41 myself and I generally don't find people older than me in communities like this!  At least I'm not alone!

I’m in the half century club myself, but @efaardvark is still my sempai 😂

I believe I was the 2nd oldest in my previous forum as well.

There’s definitely an IRL stigma if you still enjoy anime past a certain age. When I went to see Heroes Rising in theaters, some guy who was probably younger than me was there with his teenage daughter & did a double take that I was there without a kid 😂 Of course that was a matinee. Most of the other anime movies I went to were in the evening & most were in their 20s & 30s which I think is the case here too.
