Kiritofangirl
I just want to know if the madoka magica movies any good? Are they worth watching? Do they continue the plot of the anime or are they seperate stories?
redhope
The first two do not. In fact they are basically just a shortened version of the anime. I was actually kind of pissed when I watched them because they didn't add anything to the story. The third one does add to the story. I liked it and would recommend watching it if you enjoyed the original anime. Just skip the first two though. SanguineTear
The third movie was my favorite part of Madoka Magica personally~
Optic
Hello @Kiritofangirl, the first two films are movie length versions of the TV series with improved animation. You can safely skip the first two and watch the third movie (Rebellion) to continue the story. If you were a newcomer to the franchise I would certainly recommend just watching the movie versions. Having said that I bought all three movies on Blu-Ray awhile back. Definitely will rewatch it someday to get my Madoka fix again. On a side note you might also like the Nanoha franchise too. KimmyKins83
I've been told not to bother with watching the first two movies as they're basically a re-telling of the anime series just reduced down to two movies length, but that the third movie acts as a sequel to the series and is more worthwhile seeing
SanguineTear
I'd personally watch the two movies instead of the anime as from what I understand they have some improvements made to them. Either way it's still awesome, but you only need one or the other unless you wanna be REALLY devoted. Edited February 21, 2016 by Guest
KimmyKins83
Personally for me just the anime series alone is more than enough as I'm not a total die-hard fan enough of it to invest in the additional 3 movies aswell
SanguineTear
I would highly recommend you check out the third movie still though, since it adds a new bit to the story, it's my personal favorite part of Madoka Magica.
KimmyKins83
Coolies I shall do just that then Will probably watch it online first before possibly considering buying it to own on Blu-ray afterwards if I think it's a good and worthy enough purchase
SanguineTear
That may be a very good idea, actually. While I love it and it's my favorite, some people didn't care for it so much, I'd hate to see you spend money on it if that were the case~
Optic
Yeah @KimmyKins83 , you definitely should check out the third one as it offers a lot of insight on Homura. Whereas the TV series was about Madoka, this movie was definitely Homura's turn to shine. And the new action is jaw-dropping awesome. I watched the third movie immediately after the TV series and it was a nice continuation of the plot. The ending is... well, that's up for debate. I'm a huge fan of Madoka and well, she kind of got the shorter end of the stick in this one. Edited March 2, 2016 by Guest
