Where is everyone in life today compared to yesteryear? Careers, hobbies, relationships?

It's been a while. I haven't really had a chance to catch up with most of the people here. I'm kind of curious what's changed with everyone since the time of AN. Its been almost a decade.

I'll start off. I'm probably not too different from what I remember doing at AN.

Remember way back when, when I made those silly little AMVs? That's my full-time career right now. I'm a professional digital media designer in the film industry, specializing in film editing (I have an IMDB profile! O.o), and got my first job in July, which I still have to this day. (In fact, I'm at work right now, procrastinating. I need to be designing DVD menus and subtitling interviews...)I don't think I've had more than a day off in the last three months. -_-;

I got to work with some cool people because of my job. John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek, the dad from Assassin's Creed, Donald from Breaking Bad, etc.), Tara Strong (Bubbles from PPG, Timmy Turner from Fairly Oddparents, Harley Quinn in the Batman games) and Lauren Faust (writer/producer for Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home, etc.)

I moved out of my home and moved to Hollywood with a friend, who is now my roommate. She also happens to be a promising upstart in the anime voice acting business. We're anime buddies now. :D

I spent 4 years in college and am no longer going to school. I can't really tell whether I'm actually a dropout or a graduate--I have two Associate's degrees for completing my general education (which took me four years to do, as opposed to the usual two), but no Bachelor's or Master's, so I never really quite completed my education. Never transferred into a university. School just wasn't working out for me, so I stopped going. *shrug*

I also do a little bit of web design as a hobby, though I don't think I'll be doing it for much longer. I designed the website for a local LA convention last year. Still an avid video gamer. Not much on anime, though I do dabble occasionally if something piques my interest. Big fan of My Little Pony.

So how about everyone else?

Lauren Faust (...) Big fan of My Little Pony.

She did a wonderful job re-inventing MLP.

Ranbow Dash FTW, even though Twilight is my theoretical soul mate =P

So how about everyone else?

My life since in bullets:

  • Managed a book store
  • I am a qualified library technician (though now with move it probably won't get used for a while... if still in Sydney heaps of jobs, here not so much =(
  • I recently quit the book store
  • Darkstorm got a job transfer
  • We have moved and bought a house
  • Was asked to become a godmother to my cousin's daughter (baptism on Sunday)
  • I am now engaged to Darkstorm
  • And I have a job interview for somewhere I don't really want to work at today (but with a house/morgtage money is money for now).

Looks like you've made some very good connections Nick.

As for me... :)

Careers:

  • Volunteer work with the Ambulance service for 2 years.
  • Full time work as IT support for a school coming up to 2 years now.

Hobbies:

  • Tried making short films for 6 months. We made some nice wacky productions including the use of replica weapons and LED lightbars for our Police cars but we never had enough actors to take it really serious and thus could not justify spending money on filming permits to film in the CBD...
  • Inspired to recreate AN again. ^_^
  • Rekindling my Anime interest again.
  • Possibly going mad by purchasing Japanese Blurays for awesome quality which are very expensive compared to the local releases here...

Relationships/misc:

  • Still living and enjoying the single life. ;)
  • Went to Europe alone last September and visited London, Amsterdam and Vilnius (Lithuania). Eye opening experience.
  • Moving house soon.

  • 9 months later...

Since AN:

  • Graduated high school

  • Studied a Bachelor of Media and Communication (majoring in Journalism) and graduated in November

  • Had newspaper articles published in the Geelong Advertiser

  • Work as a Cashier/Supervisor at Coles Supermarkets since 2010 - in October I transferred from Mornington Coles to Tooronga and its going to be a long journey but it means I will get the chance to improve my supervisor skills in closing and opening the store

  • Decided to go back to university in July this year after the job market being so bad - currently studying a Master of Communication but still thinking if this is the right decision - maybe I should do teaching? I really don't know
  • Finally moved out of home in September this year

  • Joined an anime club in 2011, became the president a few months later and really improved the club - it felt like what AN would be like if it existed in real life - after graduating uni I was vice president until conflicts made me leave the club if I had known I was going to go back to uni I would have stayed as president I suppose

  • Finally had a long term real life boyfriend! No more online relationships for me! His name is Alex and I have been dating him since 14th September, 2012

Careers/Education

  • Finished High-School
  • Degree in Chemistry and Communication. Yes two Uni-courses.
  • Freelance Model
  • Used to work at a company as an office manager/secretary as a job on the side
  • Full time communication trainer, specialist and a manager. I run two departments in two different companies. Communication trainer as in I teach people an communication concept so they can get a contract out of a prospect (sales department). It's fun, I love it that I can teach other people things and meet new people every week.

Hobbies:

  • Modeling, as much as it is my job and I earn money of it. I love to model and yes it actually is exhausting.
  • Videogames! Whenever I have a chance to play games I do that, together with friends or my boyfriend.
  • Music, it is still one of my favourite things in the world. I still go to concerts and festivals a lot!
  • Movies! I go to the cinema a lot...like at least 3 times a month haha.
  • Anime/Japan is also still there in my life. I got my boyfriend into it too and I've actually cosplayed last Weekend and created my own costume (always fits better than buying it off the internet and it's the way you want it) and in February we're going to cosplay together.
  • Cats, I am adopting cats from a shelter who need a second chance. One day I hope to have a house with a big backyard which I can set off so they can't escape but still can play out in the open with things I will put in my garden. Why can't they go out of your backyard then? Well I don't want them to get run over or get hurt by a cat hater but don't worry I want a huge garden.

Relationships/misc:

  • I've been together with my current boyfriend for almost 2 years and 2 months. We are living together since we were dating for 5 months (he moved in with my parents) and we have our own place for a little bit more than a year.
  • I am not a gothic girl anymore on the outside but I still have it in me. My love for black will always stay and I do go to those gothic related fairs and dress up as an elf or anything else. I even model for a designer of Within Temptation.
  • I 'm a real blondie now, stopped dying my hair for 6 years now I believe.

That's my full-time career right now. I'm a professional

That's just awesome. It always impresses me when people manage to progress with their hobbies to the point of becoming actual professionals, and doing something they love for a living.

  • I am now engaged to Darkstorm

OMG wow. I feel so left-behind... And I expect some photos posted here when you have your wedding!

  • Went to Europe alone last September and visited London, Amsterdam and Vilnius (Lithuania). Eye opening experience.

I wish I could afford to travel... Sadly I've been on quite the short leash for the past 3 years, so going back home once a year is already pushing the limits for me. Maybe from next year on!

  • Decided to go back to university in July this year after the job market being so bad - currently studying a Master of Communication but still thinking if this is the right decision - maybe I should do teaching? I really don't know

I applaud your enthusiasm for your field... I wouldn't stay in school for any longer even if they paid me to (though if I stayed, they would pay me for it, but that's another issue). I've just had enough of education for a lifetime -- at least I feel that way now. Actually back in the day (I guess those were the AN days too), I used to run a high school mag (focusing on music and games) -- that was also the last time I was any kind of leader in a group. I got to realize that unless I have a very strong interest in something (the way I cared about that mag), I'm simply not fit for a leader position. I just can't care enough.

That's some insane success there. I only knew about your modelling career -- saw the pics on FB. I had no idea that you have -- lemme count -- 4? or even 5? jobs, and so into them as well... Do you even have any free time?

As for me... I guess I'm still just a kid compared to you guys. I'm writing my graduation thesis for my BA in economics at an university in Japan -- I've been living in in the land of the rising sun for almost five years now. During those years I got into fansubbing and until I started fading myself out of the scene this season I think I can say I was one of the prominent translators out there. Other than translating, I developed a kind-of serious addiction to gaming (Skyrim, StarCraft, LoL etc). I just need it to keep myself going. I also secured a job, so (unless I mess up terribly and fail to graduate) from next year I'll be working as a producer-in-training at Sunrise (yeah, the Gundam company) in Tokyo.
