Optic
Show us your latest tech-related gadget and why you bought it! Whether it be a new smartphone, tablet, headphones, computer peripheral, etc... I'll start off with my new NAS (network attached storage). It's A Synology DS412+ with 4x Western Digital Red HDDs (4TB each). I bought it because I ran out of space (again) and got tired of plugging and unplugging new external HDDs to expand my storage. I also used to put internal HDDs to expand my desktop's storage but eventually ran out of slots. There's also the added benefit of having it all under one volume (in different folders if you wish).
NightDancer
Isn't this similar to the Shopping entry I made? =) But that included everything you have bought. Sorry just thinking out loud ^^
Optic
Good point @NightDancer, however this is solely for tech stuff. I also noticed the Technology forum section was feeling a little quiet so why not spruce it a bit? ouchthis-excited -- As per @FearInCube's request: I recently upgraded my Home Theatre audio, definitely very expensive but I'm super happy with the result. Watching anime definitely has more impact now. Especially when my previous system was a Sony Muteki 7.2 HTiB (home theatre in a box) system... Nothing bad against the Mutekis as they're definitely bang for buck - it's hard to beat an AVR and 7.2 speakers for $1,000 range but you're definitely limited in an upgrade path as those speakers were only 4ohms and wasn't sure if the AVR could handle 8ohm ones. So I went for a Yamaha and B&W 5.1 match. Was tempted by Denon and Polk combo but found it a bit too "bright" for my liking. Would definitely recommend popping down a proper Hi-Fi shop as the staff are much more helpful, they let you play your own movies (I brought my Evangelion 1.11, Man of Steel and Tron Blu-ray discs to test) . Also no pressure to make you buy things *cough* such as Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi. ouchthis-hush Amp: Yamaha Aventage RXA3030 Fronts: B&W 683S2 Centre: B&W HTM61S2 Surrounds: B&W 685S2 Wide View Just need a new cabinet or table to fit the new Centre speaker, it's humongous! Nights
Crank the bass on that and feel your room vibrate I could probably feel the tremors off that bass all the way over here. That thing looks lethal.
drill
Not that long ago I got one of these: Acer p215h I was looking for a new monitor with 1920x1080, as my old one is only 1440x900. The old one serves as a good second monitor, but since my computer only has one DVI cable input, doesn't have near the quality as this one.
Optic
Ooh good stuff @drill, now you can watch anime in 1080p natively.
drill
If only that was the case @Optic... for some reason, I think 1080p is too large, and still watch in 720p (Mainly because the subtitles are too low on the screen, so its hard to read and watch at the same time... and I'll never watch dub anime... ever ) Perhaps, since you mentioned it, I'll try watching 1080p again though. Optic
Yeah some of the fansub groups tend to put the subtitles too low... If they're soft subtitles you should be able to override this. If you're using VLC player you can move the subtitles using the "Force subtitle position" option here:
drill
Thanks, I didn't know you could actually change the positioning of subtitles in VLC, I'll make sure I try that.

drill
I got this, considering that my desktop can't play Steins;Gate without it; however, I'm too lazy to shut off my computer to hook it up I'm not sure why I haven't started playing it on my laptop though

You did get a spare SATA cable to connect it to your motherboard or have some spares laying about right?
drill
Cool. You did get a spare SATA cable to connect it to your motherboard or have some spares laying about right? Its funny that you mention that, I was just talking with a friend about that as I don't have a spare cable I'm planning on buying one, but I'm just going to start Steins;Gate on my laptop as I've waited two whole weeks already. It is strange though, I was pretty sure I had a spare one, but can't seem to find it...

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but 720p is still the wisest choice at this point. With the exception of movies, any non-BD anime release is 720p at max (except KyoAni, they do 960p or something), and anything higher is nothing but an upscale. Even with BD, very few anime actually make the jump to 1080p. Just something you should be wary of before filling your harddisk with unnecessarily large files. Okay, thanks for the info, Revvie I still use 720p though, old habits are hard to break after all.
drill
Just got a new phone for $50 dollars. Much better than my old phone, and I was surprised how well it ran given that its running Windows. Also, Amazon Prime is a lifesaver for someone as impatient as me.

Optic
Ah, that's a good value model for the price. Now you can browse Anime Forums on the go. Let me know how it looks on your smartphone and if you run into any glitches.

Optic
Canon XA-20 camcorder. Pricey, but good lens. And I really wanted the XLR inputs. Infrared is a nice toy too for night time shots.
