Producer Trevor Horn made a soundtrack for the Japanese Anime The Reflection, Wave 1.

This guy is called Masaru Yokoyama. We believe him to be the best composer in anime. Better than Sawano, better than Kanno, and better than Penkin.

Watch your way through his stuff. Do note though that while they may have good music, some of these series absolutely suck.

In particular, we're going to mention Kuzu no Honkai and his absolute best soundtrack ever, Queen's Blade. Examples in the spoiler below.

 

 

In terms of actual anime quality, Kuzu no Honkai is right up there. We consider it to be the best anime in years, although some people don't like the subject matter, because it's not exactly nice and fluffy.
Queen's Blade is harder to recommend as a series, because honestly, it's not great. It does however have a weird amount of effort put into its world building, so it has a really amazing setting, and its soundtrack is absolute god tier. Listen to the soundtrack even if you decide against watching the anime. It's all on YouTube.

If you're looking for songs with English lyrics like Sky Show though, that's a lot more difficult, mostly due to the fact that anime isn't English. SukaSuka (What Are You Doing at the End of the World? Are You Busy? Will You Save Us?) had a few, including a really amazing cover of Scarborough Fair, and was also a pretty good series. Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is also worth mentioning. It's basically an hour long Daft Punk music video, which is pretty cool. We're also going to mention Princess Principal, since it had a great OP.
If you stretch to songs in other languages, there's a whole host of idol shows. We'll mention Symphogear in particular, because it has a wide variety of musical genres, not just pop, and is really damn cool. Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryouko and Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho had some great insert songs, and 3-gatsu no Lion had a French one. Once again, videos in the spoiler below.

Because I somehow find myself to be in an unwritten legally binding clause to do so, I must mention Cross Ange whenever twig mentions Queen's Blade.
