Themes in Spirited Away

I just recently rewatched Spirited Away, this time with my 2yo daughter, and so this time I was paying more attention to some of the meanings that were under the surface of the movie.

I loved that Miyazaki made the river spirit sick with the sludge and pollution from the river. I couldn't help but wonder what other messages he hid in the movie throughout the story.

A lot of his movies have pretty intricate stories that have a lot of character and overal depth. What were some of these instances that you may have noticed when watching this movie?

Another question that struck me was, what does "no face" symbolize? Anyone have a theory about that?

I know this is an old movie, so this discussion has likely taken place over time, but art is always up to individual interpretation, that's what I love about the arts, (music in particular). So please share your interpretations from Spirited Away.
