Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 - Episode 1 | Discussion

I mean where do I begin ... For starters, I haven't watched a lot of anime as you could tell from my profile (although I have seen a couple of clips of demon slayer and naruto - which I intend to watch someday ). Right after watching the first episode, it feels like Tokyo ghoul is certainly one of the greatest when it comes to the combination of genres of horror, action, drama and it has me hooked onto it. It certainly is a must-watch for noobie anime lovers like me.

While watching the anime when they introduced ghouls initially I thought "Oh Great! Another zombie horror show". (although in my defense ghouls word give of a zombie - left 4 dead vibes and I had never heard of ghouls as a horror creature before) So it was quite interesting when I was mistaken... further on when I guess the ghoul - killer was introduced to kill the binge eater he was wearing a white mask which is quite similar to the one in the game Friday the 13th. So it was quite cool to see all these easter eggs or adaptations from the games into anime. For a moment can we appreciate the quality of the animation and the overall production quality, I mean it is remarkable considering the fact that it was made in sep.2014 . Also, love the element of mystery in the episode and the entire lore . What else Yeah the pacing was on point (I mean never did ever in the episode I felt bored or anything..) I assume the viewer retention on the episode would be crazy hmm... Love the plot and everything about it although I have one criticism about the episode: If you guys remember how badly the main character gets absolutely annihilated by the binge eater through the barrier and he is STILL ABLE TO STAND UP ?!!! wheres the physics in that one?

And who knows maybe later on in the series we will get to know who humans turn into ghouls and maybe more about the ghoul - killers and who they are?

I don't want to dissect the ranking into 100 million sub-categories so I will keep it simple.

Honestly for this episode I give it a solid - 8.8/10
