Hmm, with the caveat that there are no animes that would be universally liked, here are some I really love, in no particular order (except number 1) : 1. Garden of Words 2. Your Name 3. Hyouka 4. Yahari ore no seishun rabukome wa machigatteiru. 5. Summer Wars And a bonus one for other LGBTQ romance lovers : Watashi ga koibito ni nareru wake naijan, muri muri! I have been reading way more mangas than watching animes recently, so some might be a tad older ^^;

Hey, I'm new here, but definitely not new to anime, manga or visual novels. I'm sort of having my mid-life crisis I guess, and would want to rejoin a community for this hobby. I used to be on some forums (and IRC chats, etc.) in the past that I cannot even remember, so I guess I am kind of nostalgic. I have participated in this hobby on my own (especially when it comes to manga reading) for a long time now, but I feel now that a hobby is to be shared, so here I am ! I enjoy romance the most, but I can enjoy some well written animes like Cowboy Bebop. I am more of a manga reader though, and I play visual novels when I find the time between work, friends and all my other hobbies. ^^ Eager to meet you all !

I would say not advancing the plot, not having any character development, and just reusing the same tropes & jokes over and over again. A story must have a conflict that moves the story forward, unless of course you are watching a slice of life I suppose.
