Why do people like Akira? I watched Akira and I just couldn't like it. It looks great and was very influential, but that doesn't make it a good movie. The story in the latter half is extremely rushed, the characters are flat and I can't even remember their names, and the story isn't explained in an interesting way. Every time they tried to give context to what was happening, my brain shut off because it was just boring dialogue that I couldn't get myself to care about.But this isn't about hating on Akira. I want to know why you guys like Akira. I've looked for reasons why people like Akira, and they all seem to boil down to "Oh it was influential so that means it's good and you can't criticize it." Just because it is influential doesn't mean it is good. I want to hear some original arguments for Akira.
