Dere Character Types *Boys*

Seshi

Why is it that the boy characters seem to get less attention? There are a vast amount of highly developed male characters, yet it is not nearly as likely that you've heard of them referred to by any "dere" character type. Here is a list of the Dere character type definitions I've found on the web, and characters from some of my favorite anime to give you an example of what they can look like.

 Deredere:

Sweet and energetic to seemingly everyone

- Momiji Souma (Fruits Basket)

Aladdin (Magi)

Honey (Ouran High Schoo Host Club)

TsunDere:

Outwardly harsh, not tactful, and easily disliked, perhaps lacking charisma, however once you get to know them they are a teddy bear.

Kyou Souma (Fruits Basket)

Inosuke (Demon Slayer)

Inuyasha

Kuudere:

Seems not to care what others think or do, cold and blunt. Internally they are caring and thoughtful.

Kaede Rukawa (Slam Dunk)

Yusuke Urameshi (Yuu Yuu Hakusho)

Naofumi Iwatani (The Rising of the Shield Hero)

Yandere:

Sweet until someone else shows interest in their object of affection

Zenitsu (Demon Slayer)

Motoyasu (The Rising of the Shield Hero)

Dandere:

Calm and sweet, usually reserved in groups, but opens up in private. May be referred to as "shy"

Ren Mihashi (Big Windup!)

Lets show these boys some love 💕

Seshi has a blog? How exciting!

"dere" is usually associated with romance, which I guess isn't seen as manly/masculine. From these examples, my preference is definitely Kuudere. I like characters like Kizumonogatari's Araragi Koyomi and OreGairu's Hikigaya Hachiman.  Naofumi wasn't bad either. 😊 Characters that are emotional, but show them in an awkward way like these three are sadly relatable, yet fun to watch for me.

What about you, Seshi? Seems to me like you'd like the Deredere-types, but I could be wrong.

Yea, so I do love those cute little deredere characters, I just want to collect them all 😜

But honestly in my personal life, it was the Kuuderes that I'd go for.

I tend to have the strongest reactions - both positive and negative - to kuudere characters.  Irie Naoki from Mischievous Kiss I wanted to strangle for instance, but I did/do like characters like Sesshoumaru (Inuyasha), Goblin Slayer, or Shiroe (Log Horizon).  Sometimes they can be boring though (Tatsuya Shiba, The Irregular at Magic High) if they're not well-written/acted.

Probably kuu, since they're most interesting to me and interesting characters make for interesting anime.  They tend to need good supporting characters to play off though.

They sure are interesting. There’s a crazy one on the show I’m watching right now - Vinland Saga, called Askellad - he is interesting. My favorite is the boy, our future MC
