  1. Senki Zesshou Symphogear (Has 5 seasons, it's a good time)

Megalo Box (Check out the dub, it's fantastic)

Tsuki ga Kirei (ONLY watch the sub, the dub is hilariously bad. Also, pay attention to the credits of the final episode.)

    Run with the Wind

Finally watching Darling in the Franxx completely between Slayers Next and SLayers Try. Only 3 eps in but hasn't left that much of an impression on me story or character wise but the animation is premium and the modern art style is refreshing after watching some older series. Since its Trigger who made this, I'm predicting that somewhere in the last 5 eps. aliens will somehow appear or be involved with the conclusion of the story.... (getting Kill La Kill lash backs...) 6/10 so far

Obligated to mention that Trigger didn't actually make FranXX.

They HELPED, but it was A1 that did most of the everything. Trigger only actually properly worked on 6 episodes total, their last episode being ep. 14.

It isn't even on their website lmao

  3. Symphogear XV- SOLID 10, WOOOOOO (But seriously this show has been nothing but awesome, truly a great finale for a 7-year-long franchise)

O Maidens in Your Savage Season - Easy 9 right now! (great romance/drama, with some equally great comedy to boot! Can't wait to see where this one is going!)

Cop Craft - Definitely an 8 right now. (Loving this show, despite its animation issues, it's always a fun watch.)

Granbelm - Also an 8! (Awful MAL score that doesn't reflect how good it is, but has a rather interesting plot so far and some AWESOME animation. Which is important for an action series.)

Astra Lost in Space - Third 8! (Super corny show, but I can't help but enjoy it. Super quality popcorn entertainment.)

Shounen Maid - 7 so far! (Surprisingly heartwarming! Not ALL the jokes land, but absolutely not a dealbreaker. I can see this maybe even going to an 8 if it manages to land the emotional stuff later on.)

Danmachi S2 - 4 out of 10! (This season of Danmachi is somehow worse than the first season! I would list all my complaints but I'd be here a while.)

I am gonna leave this for the upcoming posts. Anyways lets get back to the rating.

Been binge-watching Diamond no Ace so will have to look into this sport anime at some point. It's sadly not my cup of tea but certainly good enough for a rating of 7/10.

Diamond no Ace - Grow Stronger Day by Day

I could see this really working when tied to a scene properly. It's not particularly stand-out, I feel like I've heard a lot of rather similar tracks, but that doesn't mean it's at all bad. Solid 7.5/10

    Final Commander - Symphogear XV

I've seen the first 3 seasons, and while I love the music, I thought the show got quite tiresome by the forth. It seemed like they struggled to come up with some sort of justification as to why Hibiki and Crew would still be fighting.

Does the currently airing season seem as contrived? Do seasons 4 or 5 have anything comparable to the space ship crash scene?

Lack of justification? The Symphogear wielders are the only thing standing between the villains and the Earth getting blown up in most cases o.o I'm really not sure what's particularly contrived about it, though GX's biggest downfall was its writing, I'll admit that much.

Regardless, you'll probably be glad to know that AXZ and XV are the best the series has literally ever been. The writing is similar, yet different, with a lot of focus on tying past events together and just doing a whole lot of neat stuff. They also realized basically all of their past mistakes and either didn't repeat them, or literally went out of their way to fix some iffy stuff. Not to mention that AXZ and XV were announced at the same time, so the story for those two is particularly well done since it was planned 2 seasons in advance. So you shouldn't have any issues with AXZ or XV.

As for hype? Yeah Symphogear literally always one-ups itself, basically without fail. XV is chilling at 8.37 on MAL right now, placing it at the 5th most popular airing show this season. Which is insane lol. AXZ doesn't pull any punches either, it was just damn good. A lot of people describe AXZ as "GX but actually good." As well, AXZ has far better animation than GX does, while XV is just absolutely phenomenal.

    Like look at this animation:

  6. The scene you saw was from Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta

Great show, fantastic animation. BUT, do know, it has a special watch order you NEED to follow, which I will now post:

    How to watch: Yozakura Quartet

Completely skip the original Yozakura Quartet - https://myanimelist.net/anime/4548/Yozakura_Quartet

Start with Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta - https://myanimelist.net/anime/18497/Yozakura_Quartet__Hana_no_Uta
    (Watch episodes 1-8)

Next complete Yozakura Quartet: Hoshi no Umi - https://myanimelist.net/anime/8457/Yozakura_Quartet__Hoshi_no_Umi

Then go back and finish Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta

After that, complete Yozakura Quartet: Tsuki ni Naku - https://myanimelist.net/anime/18499/Yozakura_Quartet__Tsuki_ni_Naku

  7. Over all my time mingling in anime communities, I've noticed a very strange trend with a lot of people.

    "I don't like anime movies."

    But why the hell not?
    spacer.png

So that brings the question to the table... WHY? I can't quite comprehend why people would inherently love an anime SERIES, over watching an anime MOVIE, to the extent that they wouldn't want to watch ANY anime movies.

I'll be honest, my usual immediate response is

    spacer.png"Just watch better movies."

(But they don't often like that answer.)

And realistically speaking here, the only difference between a good anime series, and a good anime movie, is their length. A lot of people see that length difference as a problem though? In my eyes, they're simply failing to understand that while a show is crafted to be a 4-8 hour experience, a movie is crafted to tell its narrative in just 1-2 hours. Because it's crafted in that way, a good movie will have absolutely no problems getting the viewer invested in the story it's trying to tell.

There's a reason movies are so bloody successful... well, damn near everywhere.

And whenever people look me dead in the eyes and say that anime movies aren't as good as anime series...

I wish to strangle some people.
    spacer.png

Anyways, would love to hear your thoughts. Do you prefer series to movies? Movies to series? "Whatever is made well"?

    Chat about it.

  8. Flip Flappers

    spacer.png

Sounds cutesy as hell, looks cutesy as hell, but is one of the coolest shows out there, made by the fantastic Studio 3Hz!

Did I mention it's technically an isekai? Except instead of being transported to another world and getting stuck there, they travel to all sorts of different fantasy worlds to get shit done. This plotpoint allows them some VERY extreme freedom, leading up to the ability to utilize damn near any genre it feels like.

One episode you'll have a Mad Max tribute with some seriously awesome fight scenes:

    spacer.png

Another episode you'll have genuinely effective horror:

    spacer.png

All nicely tied together by fantastic animation and an absolutely killer soundtrack.

One last thing! Did I mention it's an anime original? It has no source material, basically.

Translation: It has no source to follow, therefore, it tells its story at its own proper pace, and ACTUALLY HAS AN ENDING.

    Enjoy.

  9. How on Earth did nobody mention Kubikiri Cycle

    spacer.png

    (Other title: The Beheading Cycle)

12 people are on a secluded island in a mansion.

5 Geniuses, people who are the absolute masters of their respective fields. Nobody else in the world can best them in those topics.

4 Maids. The head maid, and the 3 triplet maids.

2 Assistants. They tagged along with a few of the geniuses to simply help them out. The protagonist is one of them.

And finally, the owner of the mansion, who invites these geniuses to her mansion purely for entertainment, and to have interesting people to speak to.

One night, one of them is decapitated. They need to figure out who did it, before more people die.

I always thought this anime was about girls in tight fight-suits (that additionally makes their boobs look larger) who lose part of their suits during fights to the point you could call this ecchi. I guess my first impression was wrong, will look into it. As far as I know there is also a game franchise with the same name.

No game, unless you want to count the crappy mobile game, or that one time the main trio was tossed into Super Heroine Chronicles, which I'm not gonna count lmao

Purely an anime original series, fueled by the creators actually wanting to make the thing lol

  11. Senki Zesshou Symphogear

    spacer.png

This is one of Japan's top selling anime, with 5 seasons, over the course of the past 7 years. Season 3 was #1 in sales for its season, while season 4 was ALSO #1 in sales for its season. AND season 3 beat ONE PUNCH MAN for the ENTIRE YEAR. And it isn't popular in the absolute bloody slightest outside of Japan.

    I'm confused too, don't worry.

    spacer.png

But if you want one of the best hype action shows of the decade, Symphogear is for you. It does damn near everything that people love about shounen action shows, except it does them far better than most actual shounens, despite Symphogear not actually being a shounen.

AND it's a fucking musical. Didn't see that coming, did you.

It ain't cutesy, it lives off of the rule of cool and more or less can't go more than 5 minutes without something exploding or it dies, with music that's about as cool as that whole concept is.

Watch this scene, and witness our beloved main character parry tank shells with her bare fists.

    Watch Order:

Symphogear (a bit rough, don't judge the show based on this season. Still good, just not peak Symphogear.)

Symphogear G (This is where Symphogear actually starts to shine, and it stays that way. A shitty side studio fucked up the first season, so they fired them and swapped out 90% of the staff and you're left with a season that's vastly superior to the first in absolutely every god damn way you could ever expect. Get. To. This. Season.)

Symphogear GX (It got even prettier.)

Symphogear AXZ (The animation got better.)

Symphogear XV (Airing right now, and is really turning out to be a proper culmination and finale of 7 years of a franchise.)

    OOOOO

Now that you've been so heartily informed of the best show ever, I'd love to hear what any of you think of it. First impressions based on this thread maybe, or impressions from you going to watch it! It's my favourite show by a mile, so I assure you I'm more than willing to chat your ear off about it, and if you aren't impressed by it... well, leave it to me ;)

  12. For DxD, I'll relate this rec to "ecchi with good plot"

    Punchline

It seems terrible, but it isn't! It even has a proper ending, so that's neat.

As for FranXX, just watch Gurren Lagann. it's effectively FranXX but way better. I also highly suggest the dub for this one.

Honestly just like regular streaming services like Netflix, or hulu to get everything gotta go with more then one.

Even if you pay for every legal anime streaming service available to English speaking audiences, you won't get everything.

As such, I don't think I can say names, but free sites aren't as bad as they're made out to be. Watch what you can legally if you'd like, but just remember that even if you're paying around $40-$50 a month for a load of streaming services, you won't get everything.

A fantastic way to give back to the industry is to buy blurays, so doing that is an option as well if you so choose to ever get into free sites.

I only offer this up as a very viable option, simply because it is a very viable option, and one that should be greatly considered rather than being locked out of seeing certain series because of dumb licensing fees.
