  1. What up, dudes and dudettes? (and others in between) I came across a wonderful anime on YouTube called The Apothecary Diaries and it is delightful. The story takes place in Li, a fictional country based on Imperial China around the Tang Dynasty. Maomao lives in the capital's pleasure district with her adoptive father Luimen, a former palace doctor turned local apothecary. (for those who don' know, apothecary is an old fashion term for someone who grew plants and made medicine from them. Today they would be called pharmacists.) Maomao is kidnappted and sold to the palace as a servant. She solves the mystery of heirs dying (poisoned face powder) and is rewarded by becoming Lady Gyoukyou's lady-in-waiting/food taster. She also is an amateur detective solving various problems. She is smart enough to know her station because: 1. she is literate, 2, she is an accomplished apothecary. 3. the right people (Jinshi, Gyoukyou, Lihau and even the Emperor) favor her, otherwise she'd be executed many times over for her actions. TAD is an entertaining look in "palace politics", especially with consorts and their ladies-in-waiting. Do we have a favorite season or episodes? Let me hear you. Take care and stay classy.
  2. Hey, dudes and dudettes (and all others in between) I was putzing around YouTube and saw several clips about the Apothecary Diaries after the series (so far) and in them Gyoukyou wanted to retain Maomao's services as lady-in-waiting/food taster, yet the Emperor refused on account of Lakan not being in favor of it. So I was wondering why not Lihau? Maomao did save her a few times and Maomao did tell her a few secrets to spice up her time with the Emperor. In all the two of them have a good rapport so here's a thought. Why doesn't the Emperor assign Maomao to Lihau? I suppose Lakan may not be thrilled and the other Consorts/ladies-in-waiting may not be as tolerant of Maomao's quirks (i.e. enjoying tasting for poison and experimenting on herself Not to mention she is rather forward and risks getting punished for her actions. Any other thoughts? Take care and stay classy.
  3. I just thought of another "Anime Bad Dad". Ivan Dryar from Fairy Tail. He turns his back on Makarov and tries to kill his son Laxus for the lacrima in his chest.
  4. What up, dudes and dudettes? Fan Expo and Anime Boston Boston, MA Granitecon Manchester, NH Rhode Island Comic Con Providence RI You're all welcome to come anytime.
  5. Hey dudes and dudettes, How are things in Anime World? I finished watching four seasons of The Boys. a very dark, bloody satire of superheroes. The "heroes" are products who perform for the cameras and they push merchandise and have handlers and oversight. In reality, they are sociopathic killers. I only saw one season of Hero Academia and, admittedly, I wasn't that impressed, but I might give it a chance. Anyway, the Heroes also have merchandise, oversight and merch, etc. So the question is is the Boys and Hero pretty much the same? Is hero Boys Lite? Any thoughts? Good luck in your new bed. Enjoy your nightmare, hon, while you're resting your head.
  6. Hey dudes and dudettes, How are things in Anime World I putz around Instagram a bit and I often come across clips of cons and someone interviewing the congoers for various hot takes and surveys. One topic that comes to mind is "Worst Anime Dad". The two most popular answers are Goku and Tucker from Alchemist. I would like to add the dad from Evangelion. Look up the word "douchebag" and it says "see him". He abandoned Shinji as a kid and expects him to fly the EVA-1, not caring if he dies in battle (although, granted, Shinji is a whiny little bitch who needs a good slap once in awhile). Thoughts? Does anyone have a bad dad in mind? Good luck in your new bed. Enjoy your nightmare, hon, while you're resting your head.
