DAHB
I hope everybody is doing well. I have just finished watching the last movie of Violet Evergarden andI have to say it was very moving and visually beautiful. However, even though I do not follow this work as a proper fan and just watched the movie because I remember recently about it, I found myself with this classic feeling of uncertainty and curiosity when the movie ended. You know that feeling when you see the last scene before the credits or pass the last page of the book. I am not sure if the name of this is nostalgia or if there is a more appropriate one. I wanted to know if somebody knows how to deal with it or if there is a way to approach this feeling. I do not feel is wrong, but certainly uncomfortable. Almost as if the existential feeling of realizing how small you are compared to the universe, but in terms of our own mind and heart. Thank you for reading me, Have a nice Day
Animedragon
I have mixed opinions about the second Violet Evergarden movie. I feel it would have been better, and easier to follow, had it all been set the the "present" rather than in the future with Violet's story told as history. Some series, movies and books often leave me with the feeling that I want to know more of the lives of the characters. I think this happens when the author has crafted their story so well that you come to believe the characters are real people and they almost become part of your life. This can lead to the series or book having sequels which sometimes work but can become a franchise which extends the story beyond it's natural length and risks devaluing the original work. As for that feeling you get once the credit roll ends or the last page is turned I think all you can do is treasure that feeling and mark the series, movie or book down for a rewatch or reread later on. Sakura Dragon
I feel a little disappointed as well as a little empty. It’s tough when something you enjoyed just stops and there won’t be anything after that. It just sucks lol

Gale
You're not the only who experiences that strange empty feeling. It's like nostalgia--reminiscing over the journey you had just completed (whether that be an anime, book or video game). Any good story will leave you feeling hollow, so to speak. You were so invested in it, always expecting something to happen next...and then, it's done? It's finished? There's no more...? Animedragon puts it beautifully here: On 10/4/2024 at 5:26 AM, Animedragon said: I think this happens when the author has crafted their story so well that you come to believe the characters are real people and they almost become part of your life. I believe that this is certainly the case. We become attached to the characters, and the lives they lead (despite being fictional). We put ourselves in their shoes and are immersed into their world. We see and feel the things they do. And when their story has come to its conclusion, it's time to say farewell... It's always bittersweet, isn't it?
Moxie
I feel satisfied and empty all at the same time. We spend so much time invested in the story, and once it's finished, that time is essentially replaced by new emptiness.
kincelkun
The impending feeling of emptiness keeps me from rewatching a lot of my favorite anime. For example, DB GT was way too much for me to handle; the ending was too much of a goodbye as opposed to a until we meet again. I loved the story, but I can't go through that again. As for games, Ace Combat: 04 (PS2) did it for me; I couldn't bring myself to replay it. I watched a video on YT about it not long ago, and it still gave me chills and instant nostalgia.
