Question about japan

emicoyou

Question

I'm currently planning a trip to Japan (finally making it happen after years of dreaming! 🙌), and I've been digging around for info on hotel costs to help build a solid budget.

I came across this article: https://www.japanfortwo.travel/hotel-costs-in-japan-yen-breakdown-for-budget-travelers/

It gives a pretty detailed breakdown of what to expect in terms of accommodation prices depending on your budget - everything from capsule hotels to business hotels and traditional ryokans. Honestly, it's super helpful, especially since they list out the costs in yen, which gives me a better idea of what's realistic.

But I'm wondering. for those of you who have traveled to Japan recently (especially post-COVID), do these numbers still hold up in 2025? Are capsule hotels still as cheap as they say? And are business hotels actually good value or do you end up sacrificing location/comfort?

Also, I'm curious - have any of you used those love hotels just for the budget stay? 😅 They mentioned it as a possible option and I'm wondering if that's actually a thing solo travelers do or if it's too weird.

Would love to hear some personal experiences - where you stayed, what you paid, and whether you think this article reflects the current reality in Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto

Thanks in advance 🙏

unfortunately i can't comment on post covid numbers, but i can share my personal experience.

i went to tokyo 2 times, once in fall 2017 and spring 2019. for 2019 i went with my dad and paid for our flights while he paid for our lodging. we stayed in an apartment airbnb in asakusa for 2 weeks and he paid around $1300 total iirc ($60-80 a night plus airbnb fees). for spending money (including food and fun) i brought around $1000 with me and came home with a couple hundred to spare (and this was with buying merch, eating out every night, souvenirs, etc). i'm not too sure how much things have changed since, but i know that when i went 100 yen was pretty equal to $1 usd and now its closer to 150 yen to $1 usd.

i will also point out the article only looks like its about a year old and was posted in april 2024! i would be surprised if already inaccurate o:
