  1. Thank you, I ended up in quite a rural place in the US, it's been lovely so far. I think I understand what you said better now. I have never had any particular opinion about sexualization, because I have never minded (and even seen) it. I didn't even know that the word/ concept "sexualization" existed before I started partaking in English-speaking social media (and in my language, there exists no word to describe the concept, it has to be translated from English). And I could never tell if an anime scene/ character is "sexualized" until a post on Reddit pointed it out. That's why I initially felt quite assured to see you wrote I thought that meant those people were similar to me and didn't really "see" that concept. But I forgot that in this country sexualization is a political matter, and "almost anything" expands far beyond the realm of 2D entertainment I was thinking about. And, I think I agree with you.
  2. Wow this thread is an interesting read. I am from the Oriental and have just moved to the States for about a year. I haven't talked much with any people who watch anime here, as I tend to be secretive about my hobbies. However, I have noticed the attitudes here toward sexualization that both Wickett and ASPERBURG have pointed out. For me personally - even though I'm not from Japan - I don't feel that sexualization is an inherently bad thing, which is why I was so assured to read this. With how intense some people on social media write about sexualization, they scared me a little lol.
  3. Ah, I see. I'm very much new to the idea, and it sounds quite redundant in the context of anime, I feel like. I understand "treating them as mere piece of meat" as being ignorant of the character's personality and just gazing at their... body assets. However I'm not sure if it's inherently a bad thing (in the context of anime). If I understand it right, character design is important because not only it creates the character visually (and hot, probably) but it provokes impression. Many of the character tropes that you mentioned in the post are not only their physical attributes but also their personalities which can be seen and/ or accommodated with suitable character design to create impression, mostly to make a character interesting. A BB character design accommodates a shy personality differently than it does a loli girl, because the impression of the character is different. So I don't really know if stopping gazing at their visual assets is... really better as a way to appreciate anime characters. The idea of objectifying anime characters sounds kind of redundant to me.
  4. I usually know of them as "character tropes." What is objectification and is it a bad thing?
  5. Gosick Probably not very underrated, I believe it's fairly popular. It's just that 13 years have passed and it's likely on the list of "old" anime for a lot of people now.
  6. I can't really think of one, to be honest. I've never liked ecchi/harem or isekai very much, but I think that's just because I've seen a lot of the usual tropes in them already. There are anime that is different from the others in those genre, on the top of my head I can think of "Now and Then, Here and There" for isekai. For... echi & harem, I don't really have one, but I don't think it's the genre that's inherently bad.
  7. That is a long time! Glad it's still alive Thank guys, I can't always be active but I'll check the forum frequently.
  8. Hello, I'm Kachan (which is shorten into Kchan). I found this forum while looking into some only ani-manga community sites because I was feeling distanced from the fandoms and communities on social media. I felt like they had become a bit... weird, in comparison to how I knew them 6 years ago. Really surprised to see a forum about ani-manga and games that's still full of activities. Does anyone here remember how it was created? And when did it enjoy most active users? I'm amazed.
