Digimon is bar none one of the most popular anime ever. It first came out as a movie in Japan called Digimon Adventure, followed the next day by a TV anime, in 1999. The English dub premiered that August on Fox Kids. About children called DigiDestined who go to a Digital World, often given magical items called Digivices after being chosen, the kids interact with Digital Monsters (known as Digimon), creatures who are born from various communication devices. With the Digimon, they fight bad Digimon. Season 1 is arguably the GOAT season, with Season 2 and Season 3 in hot pursuit as the best. My personal favorite is Digimon Xros Wars, all 3 original seasons + the dub Digimon Fusion, from the 2010's.

You may be overstating the popularity here, considering they were originally Tamagachis. Also not every Digimon series has exactly been a smash hit as well as changes... did any digimon poop after the first season? Much of the show has beene xemplary. I'm a particular fan of Digimon tamers when the human sidekicks FINALLY got off their butts and actually did somethingbesides treat their partners lick roosters in a fight. 

 

However you can't really claim Digimon is all that different from any other monster fighting/taming/collecting series be it a Robattle , pokemon, Bakugan, Beyblade, Yugioh, Duel Masters, Monster Rancher, Dinosaur King, Fighting Foodons, Zoids, Card Captors, Zatch bell, Ultimate Muscle, and the rest. 

 

Actually in all of them the humans are pretty much superfluous and are usually around because many of the monsters can't talk or they need something to get the kids to relate.

Digimon was possibly the first anime I watched when some re-runs of season 1 and 2 were on TV when I was very little. I had a big crush on Joe and Ken when I was in elementary school 7 or 8 years old and I used to print out pictures of them at our school library and glue them to my folders lmao It feels kind of cringe now but I still love Digimon and it holds a lot of nostalgia for me.

True. Considering they were an upgrade from a Tamagotchi they have done very well. 

 

At the same time there are a few glitches in the whole story. Like there not being any genders or whatnot. Among a few others. And maybe they overedit it before it comes to America.

Digimon Fusion needs a Season 3 and for Season 2's Japanese opening sequence to replace the one they used in the English dub!! Keep the "Act As One" theme, though. It's so catchy!!

I am not an incredibly avid Digimon fan but I do like it a lot. So many of the designs of the Digimon are amazing, my favorites being Greymon, Parrotmon, Gabumon, and Burning Greymon. I will admit that the only installment I have seen is Digimon Frontier but I have watched it more than once. (It has a fire intro song, by the way). I think I have re-watched it five times. I have also seen two movies that being the very first movie and Digimon Frontier: Island of Lost Digimon.
