KUNYKA
As a dragon fan, grown up watching series like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Bakugan, Digimon etc. I am concerned about modern treatment of dragon characters in modern manga/anime. The problem is a rebirth of a dragonslaying trope, which is being exploited too much recently. Dragonslaying trope used to be present in less recent series, too, but anime/manga with dragonslaying were either balancing with or overhelmed by dragon friendly series. Now the tables have turned. Examples: Dungeon Meshi. A dragon is being slain and eaten. Sousou no Frieren. A slaughter of a dragon by Stark. An overhyped scene while fans are feeling sorry for Aura, a wicked demon girl, slain by Frieren. The Ossan Newbie Adventurer. More than 1 cases of dragonslaying in anime series. In manga chapters, not covered by anime, it is even worse - EVERYONE slays dragons. The most recent case involves a dragon being CUT IN PIECES for just being tamed by a random bad guy (whom a secondary protagonists didn't even plan to kill, btw!). Good Bye, Dragon Life! - a DRAGON main character does ... get isekaied into a human. We DO NOT have any anime series with dragon main characters and now we get one were a dragon MC is not a dragon anymore! My Instant Death Ability Is So Overpowered. Mass dragon slaughter. And a loli dragon survivor ... dies in a novel. Chillin' in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers. Mass slaughter of dragons. TAMED by a DEMON. Ragna Crimson. The plot itself is about dragonslaying. Fairy Tail. The dragon concept of Fairy Tail is great indeed, but the problem is that dragons are going extinct in this franchise. In 100 Years Quest the only well and alive dragons are Mercphobia (refused to stay being a dragon), Selene (has an awful dragon form), Elythseria and Ignia (both have a high possibility to die). Good night, the world. A slaughter of a dragon with a single attack without any reason at the beginning of the series. Carsearin (let's count manhwa series, too). A main character is a dragon, dragons are OP and respected and ... the manhwa series ends with a GENOCIDE of dragons. Shikkaku Isekai. A dragon is TAMED by a demon girl. So WTF problem with dragons do writters have that they DIE?! Why are dragons being so hated, humilated, disrespected?! Or eitHer becoming PETS. The issue is also that those dragons who die and die over and over in anime and manga series DO NOT GET any personality and character developement most of times! MAKE GOOD LORE ABOUT DRAGONS. WE NEED ALIVE DRAGONS!!!

The best books I've read that portray dragons in a good light are Anne McCaffery's "Dragon Riders of Pern" series.
